For a spoken church service with a mostly fixed camera, start with OBS at 720p, 30 fps, H.264, CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Set the video bitrate below what the church’s internet connection can reliably sustain, use Ethernet if possible, and rehearse the full service before going live. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30, but that is platform guidance—not proof that a particular broadband connection in India can maintain it.
Before configuring OBS
- Confirm that the church’s YouTube channel is eligible for live streaming and verified. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility information.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder broadcast. Connect OBS using its YouTube integration, or choose YouTube/RTMPS and enter the stream key for the intended broadcast. Keep the key private: it authorizes sending a stream to the channel.
- Use the same computer, internet connection and equipment you plan to use for the service. When possible, connect the computer to the router with Ethernet; OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming.
- Check the computer with OBS’s system requirements guidance. Meeting minimum compatibility requirements does not guarantee that it can stream the church’s planned scenes successfully.
There is no India-specific OBS preset established here. Broadband performance depends on the connection at the church, so choose settings through measurement and rehearsal rather than assuming an advertised plan speed will hold steady to YouTube.

A safe OBS starting configuration
For a service centered on speech, prayer or a largely stationary pulpit view, begin at 16:9, 720p and 30 fps. A higher resolution or 60 fps may use more upload capacity without materially improving a mostly static image. Prioritize a stable feed and intelligible audio over maximum resolution.
Video settings
- In OBS, open Settings → Video. Set the output resolution to 1280 × 720 and the frame rate to 30 fps. Keep the canvas and output aspect ratio at 16:9 unless the church’s production has a specific reason to differ.
- Open Settings → Output and configure the streaming encoder for H.264 if available. Set rate control to CBR, then choose a bitrate that the connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and lists a maximum interval of four seconds.
- Use AAC audio. YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. Make a test recording or private/unlisted rehearsal to check levels and speech clarity, rather than relying on the bitrate setting alone.
- Under Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service or RTMPS option and connect the intended stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Check the broadcast selection before starting, especially if the channel has several scheduled services.
OBS labels and available encoder controls can differ by version, operating system and encoder hardware. The important targets are H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a rate that fits the tested connection. See OBS Project’s YouTube walkthrough for its connection flow.

Choose bitrate for the connection you actually have
YouTube’s current H.264 ingestion table, accessed in 2026, lists these values for the indicated 30-fps resolutions. They are encoder-ingest guidance, not measurements of Indian internet service or guarantees of sustainable upload at a church location.
| Output | YouTube-listed minimum | YouTube-recommended bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 360p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 3 Mbps | When upload is very constrained and a smaller picture is acceptable. |
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps | A lower-resolution option if 720p cannot remain stable. |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | A practical initial target for a spoken service, if the connection can sustain it. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Use only when the connection repeatedly sustains the higher rate and the extra detail is useful. |
The minimum column is not a recommended target for a moving service image. The published values are for YouTube H.264 ingestion; other codecs and frame rates have different entries in the full encoder settings table.

Measure and leave headroom
- Test upload from the streaming computer on the church’s actual connection, preferably over Ethernet. Do not substitute advertised plan speed, download speed or a single brief test for sustained upload performance.
- OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guidance, published 2024-09-30, gives 75% of total upload speed as a reasonable diagnostic starting point for bitrate. Treat it as a rough heuristic, not a guarantee: congestion, packet loss, bursts or the route to YouTube’s ingest server can still cause trouble.
- Choose a bitrate comfortably below what repeated tests and a representative rehearsal show the connection can maintain. A bitrate that fits the speed-test result but leaves no room for variation can still produce dropped frames.
- Run a rehearsal using actual camera movement, scene changes and sound. Monitor YouTube’s stream health and watch the preview on a second device. Confirm that voices and music remain intelligible at the viewer end.
If upload is too limited
Change one setting at a time and retest. First reduce the video bitrate. If the stream still struggles, reduce output resolution—for example, from 1080p30 to 720p30, or from 720p30 to 480p30. Keep 30 fps for a mostly static service. YouTube transcodes accepted live input for viewers, but that does not compensate for an unstable feed reaching the platform.
Build a church scene and audio path that viewers can follow
OBS can combine cameras, microphones and preamps, but the encoder bitrate alone cannot make unclear room audio intelligible. Start with the equipment the church already has and rehearse where the congregation will be seated as well as from the remote viewer’s device.

- 【What You Get】Includes: HDMI Capture Card, USB 3.0 to USB-C Adapter, User Manual. Tips: Make sure your tablet’s OTG function is enabled before connecting. Test your HDMI device with a monitor first to confirm video and audio output, then connect to the Video Capture Card for recording.
- Audio first: Check speech level, clipping, background noise and whether music is balanced with voices. Listen on a phone or another ordinary playback device, not only through the control-room headphones.
- Keep scenes manageable: A fixed camera and a small number of tested scenes are easier to operate than a complex layout. Scene complexity and encoder choice affect computer load.
- Test movement: Rehearse pans, camera switching, slides and other motion planned for the service. A mostly static image may compress more easily than frequent movement, but the real service is the test that matters.
- Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting check: Then test the exact resolution, frame rate, encoder, sources and scenes intended for broadcast. OBS notes that a computer can meet compatibility requirements and still be unable to stream successfully.
YouTube’s live-streaming overview describes encoder streaming with cameras, microphones and preamps; it does not establish a required equipment shopping list for churches.
Keep a long-running broadcast under human supervision
OBS and YouTube should not be treated as a guarantee of an unattended broadcast forever. Rehearse what happens if the connection drops, then verify which broadcast is selected when OBS reconnects. OBS Project’s community walkthrough discusses how scheduled-broadcast auto-start and auto-stop choices affect broadcast behavior and notes that broadcasts can eventually end after a prolonged period without an incoming stream. It does not establish a permanent stream or a precise grace period.

For an extended stream, assign people to check that the program remains live, stream health is good, audio is still present, and the computer, router and power remain online. If uninterrupted unattended operation is required, test recovery and any backup power or connectivity plan with the actual equipment; there is no universal UPS size, runtime or failover setup established for every church.
Troubleshoot dropped frames and disconnects
OBS Project defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Start with network capacity and stability rather than assuming OBS itself is defective.

- Dropped frames during the stream: Lower the video bitrate under Settings → Output, then test again. Check the selected ingest service and look for network congestion or packet loss.
- Wi-Fi instability: Connect the streaming computer to the router with Ethernet if possible. OBS says Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming.
- Intermittent disconnections: Check the router or modem, Ethernet cable, network devices, network driver, VPN and network-optimization software. Restarting the router is a basic check; persistent routing or congestion problems may need the ISP’s help.
- Bitrate falls but interruptions remain: OBS offers a “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion” option that can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. It may reduce image quality and does not fix the underlying network problem; some network controls are Windows-only.
- Stream ends or reconnects to the wrong broadcast: Confirm the intended stream key and scheduled broadcast, and rehearse the reconnect path. Scheduled auto-start and auto-stop behavior can affect whether a reconnect continues the broadcast.
- Computer struggles while the network looks healthy: Recheck encoder choice, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then retest with the actual service layout.
See OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide for further network checks.
