To save two apps for quick split-screen use on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, open them side by side, tap the divider, tap the star-shaped app-pair icon, then choose where to save the pair. You can save it to the taskbar, Home screen, or Apps edge panel. The exact controls vary by Fold generation and One UI version, so use the equivalent Recents, taskbar, or Multi window option shown on your phone.
Save two apps as an app pair
- Open the first app in split screen. Open Recents, tap the first app’s icon, then choose Open in split screen view. On supported Fold models, you can also drag an app from the taskbar or Multi window tray into a side of the screen. Samsung documents both approaches in its Taskbar guide and Multi window guide.
- Choose the second app. Select it from the available apps. Drag the divider between the windows to give either app more screen space.
- Save the pair. Tap the center divider, then tap the star-shaped app-pair icon. Choose Taskbar, Home screen, or Apps edge panel as the save location.
- Launch it later. Tap the saved pair where you placed it. A taskbar app pair opens both apps together.
Another documented method on supported models is to drag two apps from the taskbar into the left and right sides of the display, tap between the windows, then tap the star and choose Taskbar.

Split screen for two apps at once
Split screen places two supported apps side by side. Start it through Recents or a Multi window or Edge panel control, then select the second app. This is the layout to use when you want both apps visible and need to adjust how much space each gets.

Pop-up view for a floating app
To keep an app in a movable window above another app, open Recents, tap the app’s icon, and choose Open in pop-up view. Samsung also documents a gesture-based option on supported software. Use the Multi window tray where available
Samsung’s Z Fold4 instructions describe opening the Multi window tray by swiping left on its handle at the right edge of the screen. Edit the tray if needed, then drag apps from it to the desired screen position. Newer models may present the tray or its controls differently; follow the on-screen option available on your Fold. Enable swipe shortcuts on supported software
Samsung says Galaxy devices running One UI 6 or later can enable Multi window swipe gestures under Settings > Advanced features > Multi window. Once enabled, the documented shortcuts are:

- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers to open split screen.
- Swipe inward from either top corner with one finger to open pop-up view.
Gesture availability and behavior depend on the software and device. If these controls are not present, use Recents or the multitasking panel instead.
Check app and model compatibility
Not every app supports split screen or pop-up view, and Samsung says support can differ by app and device. If an app is missing from the picker or will not enter a layout, try another app or check whether your phone offers an applicable Labs option. Samsung’s current Z Fold8 Ultra multitasking guide explicitly notes that some apps are not compatible.

On some foldables, Settings > Advanced features > Labs includes experimental options such as Multi window for all apps or additional gestures. These options are not guaranteed to work for every app or model. Samsung cautions that “Labs features are experimental and may not work as expected” in its Labs support documentation.
Because the instructions cover different Fold generations—from the Z Fold4 tray workflow to newer Recents-based guidance—labels and feature availability can vary. If a menu name differs, look for the equivalent split-screen, pop-up, taskbar, or Multi window control on your phone.
