How to Set Up LinkedIn Services Marketplace and Get Your First Freelance Clients

LinkedIn Services Marketplace is free to set up, but it is not an automatic lead engine. You create a Service Page on either your personal profile or an eligible Company Page, describe a specific offer, show credible proof, respond to project requests with a proposal, and agree scope and payment outside LinkedIn. The fastest path to a first client is a narrow service for a clearly defined buyer, backed by evidence and followed by prompt, personalized replies.

What LinkedIn Services Marketplace does

LinkedIn describes Service Pages as dedicated landing pages that showcase services and businesses to help providers find potential clients. The marketplace uses a request-and-proposal model rather than an in-platform checkout: a buyer finds a provider, submits a project request, the provider replies with a proposal, and both parties settle scope, terms, and payment through a process outside LinkedIn.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Potential clients can contact providers for free, regardless of whether they are first-degree connections. Discovery can happen through Services Marketplace, ordinary LinkedIn search, or a recommendation from someone in a buyer’s network.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

LinkedIn does not publish an authoritative average conversion rate, time to first client, or typical earnings figure for this marketplace. Treat the page as a focused acquisition channel, not a guarantee of leads or income.

Choose where the service will live before publishing

LinkedIn currently requires you to choose between a personal-profile Service Page and a Company Page Service Page during setup. After the service is created, you cannot switch its ownership route, so decide whether buyers should hire you as an individual or engage a firm.

Decision point Personal profile Company Page
Brand owner Your name and professional reputation The company brand
Who manages requests The profile owner Page admins, allowing several people to respond
Best fit Solo freelancers and independent consultants Firms with a shared delivery team or multiple administrators
Eligibility Personal LinkedIn profile Company Pages for organizations with 500 employees or fewer; Showcase Pages and University Pages cannot offer services
Reviews Available for profile-managed services Currently unavailable for Company Page services

A personal page is usually the clearer starting point when clients are buying your expertise, portfolio, and availability. A Company Page makes more sense when the buyer needs a branded supplier and more than one admin must handle inquiries.

Set up Services from a personal profile

  1. Open your profile. On desktop, select Me and then View Profile.
  2. Start a Service Page. Select Add profile section beneath your profile photo, then choose Add services. If LinkedIn shows a Service Page overview, read it and continue.
  3. Select only deliverable categories. Add the service categories you can actually perform with your current skills, capacity, and legal or professional qualifications. A long list makes it harder for a buyer to know what to hire you for.
  4. Write the About description. Name the buyer, the problem you solve, the deliverable you provide, and the outcome you aim to produce. Explain your working format and the type of project that is a good fit.
  5. Set your work location. Choose the locations you serve and indicate whether you accept remote work. Be precise if your availability depends on a time zone, travel radius, or regulated jurisdiction.
  6. Choose a price display. You can show a starting hourly rate or select Contact for pricing. LinkedIn states that a starting price is a minimum indicator, not a promise of the final project price; the final amount depends on scope and terms you agree with the client.
  7. Add proof where available. Depending on your subscription, LinkedIn may let you attach documents, photos, videos, or websites. Use items that demonstrate the exact service rather than unrelated career history.
  8. Decide who can message you. Consider allowing messages from people outside your first-degree network. Restricting messages can reduce irrelevant inquiries, but it also removes potential buyers who discover you through search or recommendations.
  9. Publish. Select Save on the desktop flow. In the mobile flow, select Publish.

Review the page as if you were a buyer who has never met you. Within a few seconds, the visitor should understand who you help, what you deliver, how to start, and whether you work remotely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set up services on a Company Page

  1. Switch to the Company’s super-admin view.
  2. Select Create, then choose Add services.
  3. Review LinkedIn’s explanation of Service Pages and enter the organization’s service categories and details.
  4. Confirm that the Page is an eligible Company Page with 500 employees or fewer. Showcase Pages and University Pages are not eligible.
  5. Assign the admins who will monitor requests and establish an internal owner for response coverage.

Company Page services are useful when several admins need access to the same inquiries. They do not currently offer the profile-service review feature, so a firm should use case studies, references, and independently verifiable proof to establish trust.

Write an offer that buyers can evaluate

Choose one buyer and one job to be done

Replace broad positioning such as “I do marketing” with a concrete promise such as “I help B2B software founders turn customer interviews into publishable case studies.” The second version identifies a buyer, a starting problem, and a tangible output. Keep the Service Page categories consistent with that promise.

Describe the deliverable, not just the activity

State what the client receives: for example, an audit with prioritized fixes, a four-page case study, a configured analytics dashboard, or a two-hour strategy workshop followed by a written action plan. Mention the number of revision rounds, the information you need from the buyer, and the expected timeline when those details are stable.

Show proof before requesting a call

Use a short case study, a before-and-after example, a redacted sample, a relevant credential, or a client recommendation. Strong recommendations describe how you collaborated and what benefit the client received, rather than simply saying you were pleasant to work with.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How a service request becomes a client

  1. Discovery: A buyer finds your Service Page, profile, Company Page, LinkedIn search result, or a recommendation.
  2. Request: The buyer describes a project or asks whether you can help.
  3. Qualification: You restate the desired outcome and ask the one or two questions that determine scope, timing, audience, or access requirements.
  4. Proposal: You explain the deliverable, milestones, assumptions, timeline, price basis, and next step.
  5. Agreement: Both parties confirm scope, terms, and payment method outside LinkedIn.
  6. Delivery and proof: After completing the work, close the project and request an honest review or recommendation.

Do not send a generic biography in response to a request. Buyers are evaluating whether you understand their particular project, not whether you can list every role you have held.

A practical first-client playbook

1. Build a narrow landing page

Use the headline and About text to repeat the same clear positioning: buyer, problem, deliverable, and outcome. Remove categories you cannot support with current examples. If you serve two very different audiences, create separate messaging and explain which projects belong in each offer rather than combining them into one vague description.

2. Prepare a small proof library

  • One concise case study with the original problem, your work, and the measurable or observable result.
  • One sample deliverable or before-and-after example that does not expose confidential information.
  • One paragraph explaining your process, inputs, milestones, and handoff.
  • Recommendations that describe collaboration and a specific client benefit.

If your subscription supports the enhanced Services Showcase, LinkedIn may display media, ratings, and a recent review. Those features improve the evidence a buyer can inspect, but they do not replace a relevant offer.

  • [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by

3. Contact warm prospects with a specific update

Message former colleagues, clients, and relevant contacts who are plausible buyers or know those buyers. Explain what you now offer, who it is for, and the problem you solve. Ask whether the issue is currently on their list; do not paste a mass pitch or assume a referral is owed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Respond like a consultant

A useful first reply can follow this sequence:

  1. Acknowledge the requested outcome in the buyer’s language.
  2. Ask one or two questions that affect effort or feasibility.
  3. State the deliverable and a realistic time frame.
  4. Identify an assumption or exclusion that could change the quote.
  5. Offer one clear next step, such as confirming a brief or scheduling a call.

LinkedIn can show an average response time when you respond within 24 hours and an average response rate when you answer at least 80% of inquiries. These are display thresholds, not a promise that a request will convert. Set a notification and coverage routine that lets you meet them without sending rushed proposals.

5. Close the loop and request proof

After delivery, mark the project complete and ask the client for an honest review. LinkedIn allows up to 20 review invitations to past clients. Marking a project complete can trigger a review prompt without consuming an invitation credit. Suggest that the client mention the original problem, what you delivered, and the result they can accurately describe; never script an untrue endorsement.

What Premium changes

A Service Page can be created without a paid subscription. Premium Business, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter Lite may add a Request services button, an enhanced Services Showcase, media, ratings, recent reviews, and eligibility for additional matched requests. LinkedIn says these capabilities can roll out gradually, so inspect the features available on your account before promising them to a client.

Capability Free Service Page Eligible Premium feature set
Create a Service Page Yes Yes
Request services button Not stated May be available
Enhanced Services Showcase Not stated May be available
Media, ratings, and recent reviews in the showcase Not stated May be available
Additional matched requests Not stated Eligibility may be included

Premium changes visibility and matching options; it does not provide positioning, proof, a persuasive proposal, or payment processing. The documented workflow still has the client and provider handle payment through the provider’s preferred process outside LinkedIn.

Price and scope without creating confusion

Use the hourly field carefully

A displayed starting hourly rate communicates a floor. It is not a fixed quote and does not account for research, meetings, revisions, rush work, or expenses unless you define those items separately. If every project requires discovery before you can estimate, select Contact for pricing and explain what information you need for a quote.

Put assumptions in the proposal

  • What the client will provide and by what date.
  • What is included in the stated deliverable and what is out of scope.
  • Number of revision rounds and the method for approving work.
  • Milestones, delivery dates, and what can move them.
  • Price basis, payment schedule, taxes, expenses, and cancellation terms.

These terms are agreed outside LinkedIn. Keep a written record in the contract, statement of work, or invoice system you and the client choose.

Common problems and fixes

The Add services option is missing

Confirm that you are editing the intended personal profile, or that you are in the Company’s super-admin view for a Company Page. Showcase Pages and University Pages cannot offer services. LinkedIn feature availability and labels can change, so check the current Service Page administration view.

You chose the wrong ownership route

LinkedIn currently does not let you switch a published service between a profile and a Company Page. If the choice no longer fits, document the existing offer, create the appropriate new service where eligible, and update profile or Page messaging so buyers are not sent to two conflicting destinations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You receive views but no serious inquiries

Narrow the buyer and deliverable, replace generic claims with proof, and make the next step explicit. Ask a trusted former client whether the page makes the problem and outcome obvious within a few seconds. More visibility cannot compensate for an offer that is difficult to evaluate.

Requests are outside your capability

Remove categories you cannot deliver, state exclusions in the About text, and ask a qualifying question before quoting. A prompt, respectful decline protects response quality and prevents a project from becoming a poor review.

You cannot see Premium enhancements

Eligibility and rollout are account-dependent. Check the current subscription and Service Page admin view; do not advertise a button, showcase element, or matched-request access until it is visible to you.

A buyer asks LinkedIn to process payment

Explain that the documented Service Page workflow has payment handled through the provider’s preferred process outside LinkedIn. Agree on the method, schedule, currency, taxes, and dispute terms before work begins.

A 30-day launch plan

  1. Days 1–3: Choose profile or eligible Company Page ownership, define one buyer and one job to be done, and collect proof you can publish.
  2. Days 4–7: Complete the Service Page, set location and remote availability, choose the price display, and test how the page reads on mobile.
  3. Week 2: Publish one useful example or case study and request specific recommendations from past collaborators where appropriate.
  4. Week 3: Send personalized updates to relevant warm contacts and monitor inquiries at least daily so qualified requests receive a timely reply.
  5. Week 4: Review which wording attracts suitable conversations, refine the offer, and create a reusable proposal outline without turning replies into generic templates.

Use the first conversations to improve qualification and scope. Do not infer a guaranteed income or conversion rate from a small number of inquiries; the available LinkedIn guidance provides display thresholds and feature descriptions, not outcome benchmarks.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
