How to Set Up Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Lumina Speakers on a PC, Mac, or Gaming Console

The reliable setup is straightforward: connect the left and right satellites to the matching ports on the subwoofer, wake the system from the right satellite, then select one input. Use USB-C for a computer, 3.5 mm AUX for any device with an analog audio output, or Bluetooth where the source supports Bluetooth speakers. The source LED confirms which connection is active: white for USB, green for AUX, and blue for Bluetooth.

What you need before connecting the Lumina system

The ProMedia 2.1 Lumina has two satellite speakers and a powered subwoofer. The satellites are not interchangeable: each cable must go into the matching left or right socket on the back of the subwoofer. For computer USB audio, use a USB-C cable that carries data, not a charge-only cable. For analog sources, use a 3.5 mm (1/8-inch TRS) stereo cable. Bluetooth requires no audio cable, but the source device must allow the Lumina to be paired as a Bluetooth speaker.

  • Place the subwoofer on a stable surface with room around it and put the satellites on the left and right sides of your listening position.
  • Keep the right satellite accessible because its buttons select the input, wake the system, and control power.
  • Identify the two subwoofer satellite sockets before plugging anything in: the black socket is left (L), and the blue socket is right (R).

Complete the first-time hardware setup

  1. Place the subwoofer and both satellites where you want them.
  2. Plug the satellite marked L into the black L port on the subwoofer.
  3. Plug the satellite marked R into the blue R port on the subwoofer.
  4. Connect the subwoofer to power.
  5. Tap any button on the right satellite to wake and turn on the system.

Klipsch’s setup instruction is to connect each satellite to its corresponding spot on the back of the subwoofer. If the system does not wake, check those two plugs first; a satellite in the wrong port is the most basic wiring error to eliminate.

To turn the system off manually, hold the multifunction button on top of the right satellite for five seconds. During normal use, the speakers enter standby after 15 minutes without an audio signal. They normally wake when a signal returns, so a brief pause after playback resumes can be expected.

Choose the right input for your device

Connection Source LED What you connect Best fit Important condition
USB computer audio White USB-C cable from the subwoofer to a computer Windows PC or Mac Select ProMedia Lumina as the computer’s playback device
3.5 mm AUX Green 3.5 mm (1/8-inch TRS) cable from the device’s headphone or line output Computer, Mac, monitor, or console with an analog output The source must send audio through that 3.5 mm jack
Bluetooth Blue Wireless Bluetooth pairing Bluetooth-enabled computer, phone, tablet, or supported console The source device must permit Bluetooth speaker audio

The official setup material gives the connection procedures but does not publish measured latency, frequency-response figures, or a console-by-console compatibility list. Choose based on the outputs your device actually provides and whether you need the headset passthrough.

Set up USB audio on Windows

USB is the direct computer connection. It carries the computer’s audio digitally to the Lumina, and the operating system should expose the speakers as a playback device.

  1. With the Lumina powered on, connect a data-capable USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the subwoofer and the other end to the PC.
  2. Tap the right satellite’s utility button until the front source LED is white. White indicates USB computer mode.
  3. Open Settings > System > Sound in Windows.
  4. Under the output device list, select ProMedia Lumina.
  5. Raise the Windows output volume and start playback.

If a particular game or media application has its own output selector, set that selector to the same system output or to ProMedia Lumina. An application can continue sending sound to a previously selected headset, monitor, or internal speakers even after Windows changes its default output.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Lumina USB instructions do not call for a separate driver download. Start with the operating system’s built-in sound device selection. If the device does not appear, reseat both ends of the cable, confirm that the cable supports data, and cycle the source button back to white.

Set up USB audio on a Mac

  1. Connect the subwoofer’s USB-C port to the Mac with a data-capable USB-C cable. If the Mac has only another connector, use an adapter that supports USB data.
  2. Tap the utility button on the right satellite until the LED is white.
  3. Open Apple menu > System Settings > Sound.
  4. In the output list, choose ProMedia Lumina.
  5. Set the Mac’s output volume to an audible level and play a test sound.

Klipsch’s computer instruction is to select ProMedia Lumina as the audio playback device in the computer’s sound settings. If the Mac shows the device but an application remains silent, check that application’s own audio output and volume controls rather than changing cables first.

Connect a PC, Mac, monitor, or console with 3.5 mm AUX

AUX is the practical choice when the source exposes a headphone or line-level 3.5 mm output. It is also the usual way to feed the Lumina from a monitor or a console that provides an analog jack.

  1. Plug one end of a 3.5 mm (1/8-inch TRS) stereo cable into the source device’s headphone or line output.
  2. Plug the other end into the Lumina AUX input.
  3. Tap the right satellite’s utility button until the LED is green. Green indicates AUX mode.
  4. Set the source device to use the connected analog output, then raise its volume gradually.
  5. Play audio and adjust the Lumina volume with the right satellite controls.

On a computer, the analog output may be labeled Headphones, Line out, or a headset jack. On a monitor, it may be labeled Audio out or Headphone out. The key check is that the device is actively routing sound to the jack where the cable is connected.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A console that offers only HDMI or optical audio cannot plug directly into the Lumina AUX input. In that situation, an appropriate audio extractor or DAC may be needed to create a 3.5 mm analog signal. The official Lumina instructions do not specify a particular adapter, so verify the extractor’s input, output, and console support before buying one.

Pair the Lumina over Bluetooth

  1. Wake the speakers by tapping a right-satellite button.
  2. Tap the utility button until the front LED is blue.
  3. Hold the utility button for one to two seconds to enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
  4. Open the source device’s Bluetooth settings and choose ProMedia Lumina.
  5. Start playback after the device reports that it is connected.

The blue source is the Bluetooth input; the short utility-button hold is the pairing action. If the source has previously connected to another speaker or headset, select ProMedia Lumina explicitly in its Bluetooth list before testing audio.

Bluetooth use with a gaming console depends on that console allowing Bluetooth speaker audio. Klipsch documents how to pair the Lumina but does not publish compatibility tables for individual consoles. If a console rejects Bluetooth speakers, use its 3.5 mm analog output or convert HDMI or optical audio to analog with suitable hardware.

Use the Lumina with PS5, Xbox, Switch, and a monitor

When the console or monitor has a 3.5 mm output

Connect the output directly to AUX, select the green source, and set the console or monitor to send sound through that jack. This avoids relying on a console’s Bluetooth policy and requires only the stereo 3.5 mm cable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the source has HDMI only

The Lumina does not accept HDMI directly. An HDMI audio extractor with a 3.5 mm analog output, or another suitable DAC path, is required between the source and the speakers. Choose a device whose input matches the console or monitor and whose output is a standard stereo 3.5 mm signal.

When the source has optical output

Optical audio also needs conversion before it can feed AUX. Use an optical-to-analog DAC that provides a 3.5 mm stereo output, then select green AUX mode on the Lumina.

When you want wireless console audio

Try Bluetooth only if the console explicitly supports Bluetooth audio speakers. Pairing steps on the Lumina remain the same—blue source, one- to two-second utility-button hold, then select ProMedia Lumina—but the console determines whether that connection is allowed.

For PS5, Xbox, and Switch, do not assume that a USB port, HDMI port, or Bluetooth menu guarantees speaker compatibility. Check which audio outputs the particular console configuration exposes, and use AUX when a supported analog output is available.

Switch between speakers and a gaming headset

The left satellite has a headset passthrough input. It accepts a headset with a male TRRS 3.5 mm plug, the four-contact connector commonly used for combined headphone and microphone headsets.

  1. Insert the headset’s male TRRS 3.5 mm plug into the female AUX connector on the back of the left satellite.
  2. Press the right satellite’s volume-plus and volume-minus buttons at the same time.
  3. Watch for a brief purple LED flash, which indicates that audio has been routed to the headset.
  4. Press both volume buttons together again to return audio to the satellites.

A three-contact stereo plug is not the specified headset connection for this passthrough; use a TRRS headset. If there is no headset audio, fully insert the plug and repeat the two-button toggle.

Understand the buttons and source LEDs

Troubleshoot a silent or missing output

No power or no response

  • Confirm that the satellite marked L is in the black L port and the satellite marked R is in the blue R port.
  • Tap a button on the right satellite rather than waiting for the system to wake automatically.
  • If you intentionally powered the system off, hold the top multifunction button for five seconds only to turn it off; use a brief tap to wake it.

The computer does not show ProMedia Lumina

  • Reconnect the USB-C cable at both ends and verify that it is data-capable.
  • Cycle the source until the LED is white.
  • In Windows Sound settings or macOS Sound settings, select ProMedia Lumina as the output device.
  • Check the application’s own output selector and volume. The operating system and the application must be sending audio to the same output.

USB is selected but there is no sound

Confirm that the computer volume is raised, the application is not muted, and the LED is white rather than green or blue. If the operating system lists several outputs, reselect ProMedia Lumina and start playback again.

AUX is silent

  • Make sure the cable is fully inserted into both the source’s headphone or line output and the Lumina AUX input.
  • Tap the utility button until the LED is green.
  • Set the source device to output through the connected 3.5 mm jack and raise its volume.
  • If the source has only HDMI or optical, use an appropriate audio extractor or DAC; those outputs cannot connect directly to AUX.

Bluetooth will not play

  • Select the blue source, then hold the utility button for one to two seconds to start pairing.
  • In the source device’s Bluetooth settings, choose ProMedia Lumina rather than merely turning Bluetooth on.
  • For consoles, verify that the console permits Bluetooth speaker audio. If it does not, use a supported analog output or an HDMI/optical-to-analog conversion path.

The headset has no audio

  • Use a headset with a male TRRS 3.5 mm plug.
  • Insert it into the female AUX connector on the back of the left satellite.
  • Press volume + and volume − together to toggle output, and look for the purple confirmation flash.

Which connection should you choose?

  • Choose USB when you are connecting a Windows PC or Mac and want the computer to recognize the Lumina as a dedicated playback device.
  • Choose AUX when the computer, monitor, or console already provides a 3.5 mm analog output, or when you are using an HDMI or optical audio converter.
  • Choose Bluetooth when you want a cable-free connection and the source explicitly supports Bluetooth speaker audio.
  • Plan around the headset passthrough if you switch frequently between speakers and a gaming headset; the headset must be TRRS and the toggle is performed with both volume buttons.

Once the satellites are in their matching ports and the LED matches the connection you intend to use, most setup problems reduce to selecting the same output in the source device and in the application that is playing audio.
