Choose a layout before placing anything
External monitor: use the stand on your existing desk
Measure the usable desktop, not just the desk’s outside dimensions. The monitor stand is 38 5/8 inches wide and 10 5/8 inches deep, so it needs a clear area at least that large, with enough additional room for cables and equipment. IKEA says it can fit one larger monitor or two 24-inch monitors. Check your monitors’ bases and weight against the actual stand; IKEA lists a maximum load of 20 kg per shelf.

The space below the stand can hold a laptop, keyboard, or accessories if they fit. Use the stand’s cable management and flexible holders for items such as a headset, controller, or phone to keep the working surface organized. IKEA lists those features, but does not claim a measured ergonomic benefit.
Laptop-first: use the support as a stand and storage case
Set the 16 7/8-by-10 5/8-inch support on a stable desk or table, then open its lid to create the laptop stand. IKEA describes the felt insert as protection and storage for a laptop, controllers, keyboard, and headset. Its product description puts the function simply: “The lid unfolds into a laptop stand when you’re ready to start playing.” Confirm that your laptop fits on the open stand and that the lid has room to unfold without hitting a wall or other equipment.

Optional storage: add the rolling side table only if it fits
The side table measures 50 cm square at the floor and stands 55 cm high. It has a controller charging/storage area, holes that let controllers charge behind sliding doors, a shelf that can be assembled in two positions, and casters for moving it. Measure the table’s footprint and the additional space needed to roll it; a tight gap that accommodates the table but prevents access or movement may not be useful.

- Measure the room and surface. Record the desk or table’s clear width and depth, plus the floor area beside it. Include space needed to sit, reach equipment, open the laptop-support lid, and move any rolling table. IKEA provides product dimensions, not a validated room layout.
- Pick the main setup. For an external monitor, check the monitor stand’s 38 5/8-inch width, 10 5/8-inch depth, monitor fit, and 20 kg maximum shelf load. For a laptop-first arrangement, check the laptop support’s 16 7/8-by-10 5/8-inch footprint and open-lid clearance.
- Place the stand or support on the existing surface. Keep the arrangement stable and leave the space you need for your keyboard, mouse, and other equipment. Neither listed item is a replacement for a full-size desk.
