You do not add a Siri Remote as a separate item in the Find My app. Apple’s documented method starts in the iPhone’s Control Center: open Apple TV Remote, choose your Apple TV from the device list, tap Find, and follow the onscreen locator. The supported workflow requires an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, an Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later, and a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote from the second generation onward.
As you move around, the search screen changes from far to near to here. Apple’s current product page for the Siri Remote (4th generation) also advertises Find My sound playback and Precision Finding on iPhone.

What “Find My for Siri Remote” actually means
Apple’s support workflow does not describe manually registering the remote through the Find My app or using an Add Item button. Instead, the remote-finding feature is launched from the Apple TV Remote control built into iPhone Control Center. Once the iPhone and Apple TV meet Apple’s software requirements, the Control Center remote interface exposes a Find option for a supported physical remote.

The search interface is proximity-based. Apple says the onscreen circle grows and the status text changes from far to near and then here as you approach the remote. The current standalone Siri Remote (4th generation) product listing additionally describes playing a sound and using Precision Finding on iPhone. Apple’s Find My overview defines Precision Finding as a way to see an approximate distance and direction to a compatible item on an iPhone or Apple Watch.
Check compatibility before you start
Use this checklist before looking for the remote:
- iPhone: iOS 17 or later.
- Apple TV: tvOS 17 or later.
- Remote: Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, second generation or later.
- Control: the Apple TV Remote control must be available in iPhone Control Center.
- Physical setup: the iPhone and Apple TV should be the devices you normally use to control that Apple TV, so the correct Apple TV appears in the device list.
The generation requirement matters. Apple’s support wording begins with second-generation remotes; an older first-generation remote is outside the documented support scope. Do not assume that every silver or aluminum Apple TV remote has the same locating capability simply because it controls an Apple TV.
Apple’s current Siri Remote (4th generation) listing identifies compatibility with Apple TV 4K (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations) and Apple TV HD. That product-page compatibility statement is separate from the support article’s software requirement, so the Apple TV still needs tvOS 17 or later for the documented iPhone Control Center process.

Find the remote from iPhone Control Center
- Confirm the software versions. Make sure the iPhone is on iOS 17 or later and the Apple TV is on tvOS 17 or later. These are Apple’s minimum documented versions for finding a supported remote.
- Open Control Center. On iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top-right corner. On iPhone SE and iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Apple TV Remote. This opens the iPhone control used to operate the Apple TV. The finding command is inside this control rather than in the standalone Find My app.
- Open the device list. Tap the control’s device-list selector to see the Apple TV devices available to the iPhone.
- Choose Find next to the lost remote. Select Find beside the remote you are trying to locate. Use the entry associated with the Apple TV and remote you normally use; selecting a different Apple TV will search the wrong setup.
- Follow the onscreen indicator. Walk slowly through the room while watching the circle and status text. Apple describes the progression as far, then near, then here. A growing circle means the phone is detecting that you are getting closer.
- Search the final area carefully. When the indicator reaches here, check the immediate area, including beside and underneath furniture, in cushions, and near the place where you last used the Apple TV. The screen tells you that you are close; it does not identify which side of a cushion or cabinet the remote is on.
The process is designed to be started while the remote is missing. There is no separate preparation step in Apple’s instructions that requires adding the remote as an independent Find My object first.
How the locating feedback works
Far, near and here
The three labels are practical search guidance rather than a published measurement scale. Apple does not provide a fixed distance in the support instructions. Treat far as a reason to keep moving through the surrounding area, near as a cue to narrow the search, and here as a signal to inspect the immediate vicinity.
Sound playback on the current Siri Remote listing
Apple’s current product page for the Siri Remote (4th generation) says that a missing remote can be made to play a sound. That description is attached to the current product listing; Apple’s general support wording for the Control Center procedure focuses on the onscreen proximity indicator. If your interface offers a sound command, use it while standing in the area indicated by the search screen.
Precision Finding
Apple describes Precision Finding as showing distance and direction to compatible items on iPhone or Apple Watch. The Siri Remote (4th generation) product page specifically advertises Precision Finding on iPhone. The exact visual controls can vary with the compatible hardware and software available on your devices, so follow the prompts shown on your iPhone rather than expecting a particular distance unit or screen layout.

Why you may not see the Find option
Apple TV Remote is missing from Control Center
Start with the two version requirements: iOS 17 or later on the iPhone and tvOS 17 or later on the Apple TV. Apple’s support article places the finding workflow inside the Apple TV Remote control, so an older operating-system combination can prevent the relevant control or command from appearing.
Next, verify that the physical remote is within Apple’s supported range: Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, second generation or later. A first-generation remote is not included in the documented support scope.

The device list shows an Apple TV but no Find command
Check that you selected the correct Apple TV in the device list and that you are looking for a supported remote associated with that setup. The documented sequence is specifically Apple TV Remote → device list → Find. If the Find command remains absent after the software and generation checks, Apple’s published instructions do not provide a separate manual-pairing workaround; the next practical step is to confirm the Apple TV and iPhone are updated to the required versions and that the remote model is eligible.
The indicator stays on far
Move methodically through the rooms or areas where the remote could have been left, keeping the iPhone active and watching for the status to change. The indicator is intended to guide a nearby search; it is not a published map of the remote’s location. If the status does not progress toward near, recheck that you started the search for the intended remote and Apple TV.
The status reaches here but the remote is not visible
Search the smallest area around the phone instead of walking farther away. Check under cushions, between furniture, along the sides of the sofa, beside the Apple TV, and on nearby tables or shelves. The here state indicates proximity, not that the remote is necessarily in direct sight.
The remote is damaged or unavailable
If the physical remote cannot be recovered or no longer works, Apple lists the Siri Remote as a standalone replacement product. Search for a replacement only after checking the generation and Apple TV compatibility you need; the current 4th-generation listing names Apple TV 4K (1st through 4th generations) and Apple TV HD.

What this setup does—and does not do
It uses the Apple TV Remote control
The supported route begins with the Apple TV Remote control in Control Center. You do not begin by opening Find My and adding the remote as if it were a separate tracker. This distinction explains why looking through the Find My app for an “Add Siri Remote” command may lead nowhere.
It is not a universal locator for every Apple remote
Apple limits the support article’s procedure to Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote models from the second generation onward. If you have an earlier remote, the published workflow does not promise that it can be located this way.

The general support article documents the Control Center search experience. The standalone 4th-generation product page separately mentions sound playback and Precision Finding. Read those descriptions as model-specific feature information rather than assuming that every supported second-generation-or-later remote exposes every advertised behavior in exactly the same way.
A practical search routine
When the remote disappears, use the following order so you do not waste time switching between unrelated apps:
- Check that the iPhone and Apple TV meet the iOS 17 and tvOS 17 minimums.
- Open Control Center using the gesture for your iPhone model.
- Open Apple TV Remote and choose the correct Apple TV in the device list.
- Tap Find and start in the room where the Apple TV is located.
- Use the far, near and here messages to reduce the search area.
- When the search reaches here, inspect every nearby hiding place before expanding the search.
- If the remote is not recoverable, compare a replacement remote’s generation and Apple TV compatibility with your setup.
This sequence follows Apple’s documented path and keeps the compatibility checks ahead of the physical search. It also avoids treating the remote as a generic Find My accessory when Apple’s instructions place the feature inside Apple TV Remote.
