To add a charity Donate button to a YouTube livestream, your channel must have access to YouTube Giving, the nonprofit must be eligible, and the fundraiser must be attached to the scheduled stream. In YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Giving > Get started > Create a fundraiser, choose a nonprofit, enter the campaign details, attach the livestream, and publish. The button appears after the fundraiser’s start date.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
YouTube’s stated eligibility requirements are a channel in a supported country or region, at least 10,000 subscribers, membership in the YouTube Partner Program, and a channel that is not designated as made for kids. Supported locations can change, so check YouTube’s YouTube Giving FAQs for the current list.

Some channels outside the stated criteria may still have access. The practical check is whether Giving appears in the channel’s YouTube Studio Earn area. If it does not, the channel may not currently be eligible to create a YouTube Giving fundraiser.

Choose an eligible nonprofit
YouTube Giving fundraisers support qualifying US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities. The nonprofit must be requested by a creator, participate in Google for Nonprofits, opt in to online fundraising through GuideStar, and comply with YouTube policies. If the charity is not listed in the selection menu, check its eligibility and use YouTube’s nonprofit request option if it is available to you. A request can take up to five business days to process. Until it is approved and available, you cannot select that charity for the fundraiser.
Create a fundraiser and add it to your livestream
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Earn, then Giving.
- Start a fundraiser. Select Get started, then Create a fundraiser.
- Select the nonprofit. Choose an available eligible charity from the list.
- Enter the campaign details. Add a title and description. YouTube suggests setting a goal and duration; these can be changed later. You can also add collaborators for a community fundraiser.
- Attach the scheduled livestream. Choose the stream that should show the Donate button, then select Publish.
- Check the start date and chat setting. The button becomes available after the fundraiser’s start date. Turn on live chat if you want viewers to donate in chat.
The alternative setup route is through the stream itself: while preparing it in Live Control Room, open Advanced Settings and configure YouTube Giving there. YouTube documents both routes in its fundraiser setup instructions.

How donations work, and what to tell viewers
YouTube says 100% of donated money goes to the eligible nonprofit and that YouTube pays transaction fees. Donations are non-refundable. Network for Good distributes the funds; its guidance says a nonprofit may wait up to two months for a distribution, while amounts under $10 are distributed annually. These are YouTube’s and Network for Good’s stated handling details, not a promise that a donation will reach the charity immediately. See the YouTube Giving FAQs and nonprofit guidance.
For live chat donations, viewers can choose whether to make their username public alongside the donation. Tell viewers that YouTube’s feature sends donations to the selected nonprofit; the creator does not personally process or distribute the money. YouTube’s donor instructions explain the donation flow and privacy choices.

Why is the Donate button missing on my YouTube livestream?
Check these conditions in order:
- The fundraiser exists and is published. Confirm it appears in YouTube Studio’s Giving area.
- The fundraiser’s start date has arrived. The button does not appear before then.
- The fundraiser is attached to this livestream. Creating a campaign alone does not attach it to every stream.
- Live chat is enabled for chat donations. If viewers should donate through chat, make sure chat is turned on for the stream.
- Check the viewing layout on mobile. Live chat is visible in portrait orientation; a mobile viewer looking in landscape may not see it.
- Check audience settings. YouTube may remove or withhold the button if the video or channel is designated made for kids.
If these checks do not resolve it, revisit YouTube’s FAQ troubleshooting guidance and confirm that your channel and fundraiser still meet the current requirements.
