Xiaomi’s published REDMI 17 FAQ does not confirm that a user-selectable limit is available on every Redmi 17 5G firmware or in every region.
Check your Redmi 17 5G’s available options
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery, then Battery protection.
- If Smart charging appears, turn it on and read its description. Xiaomi says the feature learns how you charge and may stop at 80% in applicable situations. For overnight charging, it may charge slowly and finish closer to when it expects you to use the phone. Xiaomi’s Smart charging FAQ describes this behavior.
- If the screen offers other modes, use the on-screen descriptions to choose the behavior you want. Menu labels and availability can vary by device and firmware; do not assume a mode shown on another Xiaomi phone is present on yours.
- If Battery protection has no charging-limit option, the available Xiaomi documentation does not establish a way to enable a software cap on that firmware. Do not treat an absent setting as something you must install an app or buy an accessory to unlock.
What an 80% setting does—and does not—mean
Smart charging is adaptive, not necessarily a fixed ceiling. Xiaomi says it may stop charging at 80% “in applicable situations”; its overnight behavior can instead continue slowly toward a full charge near the anticipated time of use. If your goal is for the phone never to charge above 80%, the general Smart charging description does not guarantee that outcome.

Xiaomi documents separate Regular charging, Optimized charging, and Battery protection choices on a related POCO model. In that example, regular charging allows 100%, optimized charging adapts to usage, and battery protection stops at 80%. These descriptions are specific to that POCO model, not confirmation of the same three choices on the Redmi 17 5G. See Xiaomi’s POCO charging-options FAQ only as an example of how labels can differ.
Why the phone may still reach 100%
The official REDMI 17 FAQ describes the phone’s built-in charging management: charging may slow near full capacity or when ambient temperature is high, and charging stops once full capacity is reached. Those safeguards are not the same as a user-configurable charging cap. The FAQ does not specify a Redmi 17 5G menu path for setting an 80% limit.

Charging can also be slower if you actively use the phone while it is plugged in, because heavy use can add heat. Xiaomi recommends letting the device charge without active use when possible. If you are troubleshooting slow charging, check the phone’s temperature and reduce demanding use during the charge before assuming a protection setting is responsible.

When the menu is missing or behaves differently
- Confirm you are looking under Settings > Battery > Battery protection; Xiaomi’s general Smart charging instructions use this path.
- Follow the wording displayed on your own phone. Xiaomi’s HyperOS guide notes that features may not be available on every model.
- If Smart charging is enabled but the phone sometimes charges beyond 80%, that is consistent with an adaptive feature that only holds at 80% in applicable situations; it is not proof of a fixed cap.
- If no relevant control is shown, Xiaomi’s published REDMI 17 FAQ does not establish that your regional firmware supports a selectable limit. The built-in charging safeguards still apply, but they do not provide a manually chosen percentage cap.
