To share eligible Apple TV movie purchases, create an Apple Family Sharing group on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then have the organizer turn on Purchase Sharing. Family members can find eligible movies in the Apple TV app under Library > Family Sharing. Apple’s guidance describes sharing purchases, but does not confirm that movie rentals are shared—so don’t assume a rental will be available to other family members.
What Family Sharing does for Apple TV movies
Family Sharing lets a group of up to six people—the organizer and up to five other members—access eligible purchases. Each person uses their own Apple Account; nobody needs to share login details. The organizer creates the group and enables Purchase Sharing, which is distinct from sharing an Apple TV subscription.

Not every purchase is necessarily eligible or available in every country or region. Apple says members must use Apple Accounts set to the same country or region to share purchased content. See Apple’s explanation of how Family Sharing works.
Set up Family Sharing and Purchase Sharing
1. Create the family group
- On the organizer’s iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap their name, then tap Family.
- Tap Continue and follow the onscreen instructions to invite family members. The organizer must be an adult. Apple also supports setting up Family Sharing on a Mac; follow Apple’s current setup guidance for the Mac steps.
Apple TV 4K is not a setup device: Family Sharing must be configured on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Having multiple profiles on Apple TV 4K is a separate feature.

- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
2. Turn on Purchase Sharing
- On the organizer’s iPhone, open Settings > Family > Purchase Sharing.
- Follow the prompts to enable it. The organizer needs a valid payment method and is responsible for family purchases unless a member adds their own payment method.
Apple also lets organizers use Ask to Buy to require approval for a child’s purchases. Details are in Apple’s purchase-sharing instructions.
Find a family member’s eligible movie purchases
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Apple TV app and tap Library.
- Tap Family Sharing, then select the family member whose collection you want to browse.
- Choose an eligible item and download it if you want to watch offline.
Apple documents this route in its guide to finding content purchased by family members.

On Apple TV 4K or another supported TV device
Open the Apple TV app, go to Library > Family Sharing, and select a family member. The exact interface can vary by supported smart TV or streaming device. See Apple’s Apple TV 4K Family Sharing guide and Apple’s guide to viewing the Apple TV app library.
Can your family watch a movie you rented?
Apple’s reviewed instructions explain how family members access eligible purchases, while its iPhone Apple TV app guide lists rentals separately from the shared-purchase guidance. They do not explicitly say that movie rentals are shared across a Family Sharing group. Treat a rental as unavailable to other members unless it appears in that member’s own account; Purchase Sharing is not a guarantee of rental access. Apple’s library guide is at Manage your Apple TV app library on iPhone.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Rental playback windows can also depend on platform-specific guidance. For Apple Vision Pro, Apple says a rental has 30 days to start playback and 48 hours to finish after playback begins; those time limits are guidance for that platform, not a universal rule for every Apple TV rental. See Apple’s Vision Pro rental instructions.

- Check that the organizer has turned on Purchase Sharing.
- Confirm the Apple Account used for Media & Purchases is the same account used for Family Sharing.
- Check whether the item is eligible for sharing or has been hidden, and whether the device and operating system are supported.
- Confirm family members’ Apple Accounts use the same country or region; availability and eligibility can vary.
- If someone cannot accept an invitation, check their group history: a person can belong to only one Family Sharing group at a time and can switch groups only once per year.
