The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s included S Pen is ready as soon as you pull it from the phone. You do not pair or charge it: this model’s pen works as a writing, hovering and on-screen control tool, but it has no Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) hardware for remote gestures. Start with Settings > Advanced features > S Pen to control Air command, Air view, notes and removal behavior, then use the pen icon that appears on screen to open shortcuts.
What you need before using the S Pen
The S Pen is stored in the dedicated slot on the bottom edge of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. No accessory, battery, cable or Bluetooth setup is required for the pen included with this phone. Samsung’s model-specific US support guide states that the S25 Ultra pen has no Bluetooth functionality.

Remove the pen from its slot
- Press the end of the S Pen so it releases from the phone.
- Pull the pen out completely.
- Touch the display with the tip to write, select, scroll or draw. You can also hold the tip just above the display for hover features such as Air view when those features are enabled.
There is no pairing prompt to approve and no charging indicator to wait for. If a setup guide tells you to open the phone’s Bluetooth menu for this included pen, it is describing a different S Pen model.

The available switches and their wording can change with the phone’s software version, regional model and carrier configuration. Samsung’s general settings reference, Change the S Pen settings on your Galaxy device, describes the controls you may find there.
Choose what happens when the pen is removed
The S Pen page includes a setting for the action triggered when you pull the pen out. Depending on the software build, this can open Air command, start a new note or do nothing. Pick the behavior that matches how you normally use the pen. If you prefer a quiet removal with no menu, choose the option that leaves the current screen unchanged; you can still open Air command manually.
Configure Air command
Air command is the circular pen shortcut menu. The settings page lets you control whether it appears automatically and which shortcuts are shown. You can remove shortcuts you never use, add supported actions and hide the menu entirely if you prefer to launch apps yourself.
Turn Air view on or off
Air view displays information when the S Pen hovers over a compatible item without touching it. It can be useful for previewing content or seeing where the pointer is, but it can also be distracting when you move the pen across the screen. Use the Air view control in the S Pen settings to disable it when you want only direct touches.
Set S Pen to text behavior
S Pen to text controls handwriting input in places that accept typed text. When enabled and supported by the current app, you can write in an input field with the pen instead of opening the keyboard. The exact languages, recognition behavior and controls depend on the installed software and keyboard configuration.

Review screen-off memos and quick notes
Screen-off memos let you write notes while the display is off after removing the pen, provided the feature is enabled. Quick notes provides another fast route to a note from the S Pen controls. The names and available options may differ slightly after an update, so use the labels shown on your S25 Ultra rather than following a menu path from another Galaxy model.
Enable the “pen left behind” warning
The S Pen settings include a warning for leaving the pen behind. Turn it on if the phone frequently travels without the pen. The warning is intended to prevent loss; it does not add tracking hardware to the pen.

- Remove the S Pen from the phone.
- Look for the pen-in-a-circle Air command icon on the display.
- Tap the icon to open the shortcut menu.
- Tap a shortcut, or tap outside the menu to close it.
If the icon does not appear automatically, open the S Pen settings and check the Air command launch behavior. You can also use the S Pen page to show, hide or customize the shortcuts. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen guide lists the following documented actions.

| Drawing assist | Provides the drawing-assistance tools exposed by the S25 Ultra software. |
| PENUP | Opens Samsung’s drawing and illustration workspace when installed and available on the device. |
| Write on Calendar | Lets you use the pen to write on a calendar view. |
These are software shortcuts, not remote controls. A shortcut can be absent if it has been removed from Air command, disabled by the current software or unavailable in your region. Restore it from the Air command customization screen when the option is offered.
Practical S Pen workflows
Write a note from the lock or home screen
For a quick note, remove the pen and use the removal action you selected, or open Air command and choose Create note. Write with the tip just as you would on paper. Save the note using the controls presented by the Notes app. If the screen is off, the screen-off memo option can provide a faster route when it is enabled in S Pen settings.

Annotate what is currently on screen
- Navigate to the page, image or document you want to mark.
- Remove the S Pen and open Air command.
- Tap Screen write.
- Write or draw over the captured screen with the pen.
- Use the save or share controls shown after annotating.
Screen write is designed for marking the visible screen. It is not a promise that every underlying app document will be edited in place; save the result using the destination offered by the phone.
Read small text with Magnify
- Open Air command and tap Magnify.
- Hover the S Pen over the content you want to inspect.
- Move the pen to another area to reposition the magnified view.
- Exit the magnifier with the on-screen close control.
Magnify enlarges the area under the hovering pen. It is useful for dense pages, fine print and interface elements that are difficult to target accurately.
Translate a word or passage
- Open Air command and choose Translate.
- Hover over supported text, following the selection or language controls shown on screen.
- Choose the offered source and destination languages if prompted.
- Move the pen to another word or close the tool when finished.
Translation availability depends on the phone’s software, language support and the app or page containing the text. If a page does not expose selectable text, the tool may not offer the same result as it does on a standard text view.
Use AI Select for a screen region
Choose AI Select from Air command, then follow the on-screen instructions to outline or select the relevant portion of the display. The phone presents the actions available for that selection. Because those actions are software-dependent, their exact names and results can change with updates.
Draw with Drawing assist or PENUP
Drawing assist and PENUP are intended for creative work rather than navigation. Open either from Air command and follow the tool palette shown by the app. Pressure response, brush choices and export controls are determined by the application and current software version; the S Pen itself does not require a separate pairing step to draw.

Write on Calendar
Select Write on Calendar in Air command to open the calendar writing view. Add handwriting to the date view using the pen, then use the save controls presented by the calendar interface. This is an annotation workflow, so confirm where the app stores the result before relying on it as a formal appointment record.
Air view: previews and pointer behavior
Air view works while the S Pen hovers above the display. Samsung Canada’s model-specific walkthrough, Getting started with the S Pen on your Galaxy S25 Ultra, describes three choices: show previews and a pointer, show a pointer only, or show previews only. That page applies to Canadian models and warns that settings can vary by carrier, software version and model. Your US or other-region S25 Ultra may use different labels or offer fewer choices.
If hovering produces no preview, open Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air view and check that it is enabled. Keep the tip close enough for the phone to detect it without touching the glass, and test in a screen that supports previews; not every app exposes hover content.

No Bluetooth pairing or charging
The included pen has no BLE radio, so it cannot be paired in Bluetooth settings and has no battery to recharge. Samsung states: “Your Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen does not support Bluetooth functions, and therefore does not need to be paired or charged.”

No Air actions or remote gestures
Air actions use BLE communication for button gestures and remote control of compatible apps, cameras or media. They are not available with the S25 Ultra’s included S Pen. Do not expect a press or gesture in the pen button to trigger a remote command on this model. Samsung’s S Pen compatibility guide and its Air actions troubleshooting page both identify the S25 Ultra among models without BLE gestures.

No location tracking
The model-specific US support page says location tracking is not supported. The warning for leaving the pen behind can alert you to separation, but it cannot show the pen’s position on a map after it has been lost.
Troubleshoot the features that are actually supported
The pen writes but Air command does not appear
- Remove the pen fully from its slot.
- Tap the pen-in-a-circle icon if it is visible rather than waiting for an automatic launch.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > S Pen and review Air command’s launch and visibility settings.
- Check whether the shortcut was hidden during customization.
Air view previews are missing
- Confirm Air view is enabled in S Pen settings.
- Hold the tip just above the screen instead of touching it.
- Try a screen or app known to provide hover information.
- Check for software updates if the control is present but behaves differently after an update.
You are looking for Bluetooth or Air actions
That is an unavailable capability on the included S25 Ultra pen, not a pairing failure. Samsung specifically excludes this model from BLE gesture troubleshooting. Use Air command’s on-screen shortcuts, direct writing and hover tools instead.
The pen is lost or damaged
Buy a replacement designed for the exact Galaxy S25 Ultra model. Samsung’s accessory guidance says to select the S Pen made for the specific device; when searching a retailer, use the device-specific phrase Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen replacement and verify that the listing explicitly names the S25 Ultra before ordering. A generic capacitive stylus will not necessarily provide S Pen hover, Air command or handwriting behavior.

The US support pages are the primary model reference for the S25 Ultra features and limitations. Samsung Canada’s walkthrough is useful for the Air view example, but its instructions are explicitly for Canadian models. Carrier firmware, software updates and regional configuration can change menu labels, the default removal action, available Air command shortcuts and language options. When an instruction here does not match your screen, stay within Settings > Advanced features > S Pen and use the label shown on your phone rather than forcing a different model’s menu path.
