iCloud+ adds paid storage and privacy features to iCloud. Subscribe to a tier—or use a family member’s shared plan—then configure each feature from iCloud settings on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Private Relay, Hide My Email, Custom Email Domain, and HomeKit Secure Video have different requirements, and availability, labels, and prices can vary by country and operating-system version.
What iCloud+ includes
iCloud+ combines iCloud storage with premium features. Apple lists five storage tiers: 50 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB, 6 TB, and 12 TB. Billing is monthly, while the displayed price depends on your country or region. Open the plan selector on your device to see the current amount for your Apple Account rather than relying on a price quoted for another market.

Every tier can be shared through Family Sharing. The storage pool is shared, but each person’s photos, files, backups, and other personal data remain associated with that person’s Apple Account. The tier you need depends on actual storage use, the number of HomeKit cameras, and whether you already receive iCloud storage through an Apple One bundle. There is no single best tier without those details.
Check these requirements before subscribing
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on the devices you want to use together.
- Install an operating-system version that exposes the feature and its current settings labels. Apple can change requirements and menu names.
- Have a payment method accepted for your Apple Account if you are starting or upgrading a plan.
- For Custom Email Domain, own a domain (or be ready to purchase one through Apple’s setup flow) and have a primary iCloud Mail address.
- For HomeKit Secure Video, have a compatible HomeKit-enabled security camera and a home hub. A subscription alone does not make an incompatible camera work.
- For Family Sharing, be the organizer or join an organizer’s group and accept the shared invitation.
If a control is absent, first check the country or region of your Apple Account and the operating-system version. Some features are not offered everywhere.

Subscribe, change, or share an iCloud+ plan
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud.
- Open the storage or plan controls. The exact label can vary with the system version; look for the option to upgrade, change, or manage your iCloud+ plan.
- Choose a tier and confirm the purchase using the payment method requested by Apple.
The same screen is where you move to another tier later. The plan page displays the recurring monthly charge for your region and the storage currently available to your account.
On Mac
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select your name, then iCloud.
- Open the storage or subscription controls and choose the tier you want.
- Approve the change when macOS asks for confirmation.
Share iCloud+ with family
- Set up or open Family Sharing from your Apple Account settings.
- Invite family members and wait for them to accept.
- In iCloud settings, verify that iCloud+ sharing is enabled for the family group.
One organizer can share iCloud+ with up to five other family members. Each member should use their own Apple Account; sharing does not merge private mail, photos, or files.
What happens if you cancel
Cancellation removes access to the additional storage and premium iCloud+ features when the current billing period ends. Check how much space your account uses before cancelling. If your data exceeds the free allowance after the plan ends, new uploads, backups, and synchronization can be affected until you reduce usage or subscribe again.

Private Relay is configured per signed-in Apple Account. Apple describes it primarily for Safari browsing and protection of unencrypted traffic; it is not a universal VPN replacement for every app or connection.

iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap Private Relay.
- Turn on Private Relay and follow any confirmation prompts.
Mac
- Open System Settings from the Apple menu.
- Select your name, then iCloud.
- Choose Private Relay.
- Turn the feature on.
Choose a location preference
The Private Relay screen includes location choices. Select the option that provides the level of approximate location privacy you want while still allowing websites to present locally relevant content, when those options are available in your region.
If a website stops working
Some websites use an IP address for sign-in checks, fraud controls, or regional access. When Private Relay hides that address, a site may ask you to complete an additional verification step or may require Private Relay to be temporarily disabled for that visit. Apple does not offer Private Relay in every country or region, so a missing switch can be an availability limitation rather than a device fault.
Create and manage Hide My Email addresses
Hide My Email generates a unique, random address that forwards messages to your personal inbox. You can give a different alias to a retailer, newsletter, app, or other service without exposing your main address. The aliases can be managed centrally in iCloud settings.

- Tap an email field on a website.
- Choose Hide My Email above the keyboard.
- Review the generated address and its forwarding destination.
- Continue with the address, or cancel if you need a different contact method.
From Mail on iPhone or iPad
- Start a new message in Mail.
- Tap the From field.
- Choose Hide My Email when it is offered.
- Send the message using the generated alias.
From supported third-party apps
In an app that supports the feature, tap its email field and look above the keyboard for Hide My Email. Support depends on the app and operating-system version, so the option will not appear in every form.

During Apple Pay checkout
On iOS or iPadOS 17 and later, Apple Pay may offer Hide My Email in the payment Contact sheet. Select the generated address when you want the merchant to receive a forwarding alias rather than your personal address.
On Mac
- In Safari, use Hide My Email when it appears in an email field.
- In Mail, open the From menu and choose Hide My Email if available.
- On macOS 14 or later, Apple Pay may offer the feature in the payment Contact sheet.
Management is available in System Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Hide My Email on macOS 13 or later. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Hide My Email. From that list you can inspect aliases, change where messages forward, or deactivate an address that receives unwanted mail.
Use the same Apple Account on each device. If an alias appears on one device but not another, check the account shown at the top of Settings or System Settings before creating a duplicate.

Set up a Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail
Custom Email Domain lets you use an address at a domain you control with iCloud Mail. It requires an iCloud+ subscription—including a subscription received through Family Sharing—and a primary iCloud Mail address. Availability varies by region.

Start on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name, then iCloud.
- Tap Custom Email Domain.
- Follow the prompts to enter your domain, add the addresses you want, and complete the ownership or DNS steps Apple presents.
Start on iCloud.com
- Sign in to iCloud.com with the Apple Account that has iCloud+.
- Open the iCloud+ settings and choose Custom Email Domain.
- Follow Apple’s prompts to add the domain and configure its mail records.
If you do not already own a domain, Apple’s flow may offer a purchase path. Domain registration and iCloud+ are separate considerations, so review the terms and renewal details shown during setup.
Use the domain after setup
Send and receive messages from the custom address on devices where iCloud Mail is enabled and through iCloud.com. If mail does not arrive, confirm that the domain’s DNS records match the values Apple supplied and allow time for DNS changes to propagate. A typo in a record or an address that was not added during setup can prevent delivery.

HomeKit Secure Video is the feature with the most hardware dependencies. You need all three of the following:

- An eligible iCloud+ tier.
- A compatible HomeKit-enabled security camera.
- A home hub, such as a HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad, configured for the home.
Camera capacity follows the iCloud+ tier: one camera on 50 GB, up to five on 200 GB, and unlimited cameras on 2 TB, 6 TB, or 12 TB. The camera itself must support HomeKit; adding a non-compatible model to the Home app does not make it eligible for Secure Video.
Turn on the iCloud Home feature
- On iPhone or iPad, open Settings.
- Tap your name, then iCloud.
- Tap Show All.
- Turn on Home.
Add a camera in the Home app
- Open the Home app.
- Tap the add-accessory control and scan or enter the camera’s HomeKit code.
- Assign the camera to a room and finish the manufacturer’s setup steps.
- Confirm that the home has a functioning hub and that the camera appears in the Home app.
If the camera is detected but recording is unavailable, check the tier’s camera limit, the camera’s HomeKit Secure Video support, and the hub’s connection. A camera that works in the manufacturer’s own app can still lack HomeKit compatibility.
Manage storage and feature access
Find what is using space
Open your iCloud storage controls from Settings > [your name] > iCloud on iPhone or iPad, or from System Settings > [your name] > iCloud on Mac. Review categories such as photos, device backups, messages, and documents before upgrading. Deleting an old backup or large file can be more economical than moving to a larger tier if your use is temporary.
Keep family usage understandable
When a family group shares a plan, each member consumes space from the same pool. Ask members to review large backups and photo libraries before assuming the organizer needs a higher tier. Personal data remains separated by Apple Account even though the storage allocation is shared.

Premium controls can disappear after leaving Family Sharing, switching Apple Accounts, or cancelling iCloud+. Confirm which account is signed in and whether the account still has an active iCloud+ subscription before changing device settings.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The iCloud+ upgrade option is missing
- Verify that you are signed in to the intended Apple Account.
- Check the iCloud section rather than the general App Store subscription list.
- Update the device if its operating system is too old for the current settings interface.
- Check the Apple Account’s country or region; plan availability and prices are regional.
Private Relay is unavailable or a site blocks access
- Confirm that your region supports Private Relay.
- Check the Private Relay switch under the signed-in account’s iCloud settings.
- If only one website fails, follow its additional verification instructions or temporarily turn Private Relay off for that session.
- Do not expect Private Relay to route every app’s traffic as a conventional VPN would.
Hide My Email does not appear
- Try a supported Safari, Mail, third-party-app, or Apple Pay field rather than a generic text box.
- Check the operating-system version; Apple Pay entry points require iOS/iPadOS 17 or macOS 14, and Mac management requires macOS 13 or later.
- Make sure every device uses the same Apple Account.
- Open the Hide My Email list in iCloud settings to see whether the alias already exists.
Custom Email Domain setup cannot continue
- Confirm that iCloud+ is active, including through Family Sharing.
- Verify that a primary iCloud Mail address exists.
- Check whether the feature is offered in your region.
- Recheck the domain ownership and DNS values exactly as Apple displayed them.
HomeKit Secure Video will not record
- Confirm that the camera is HomeKit-enabled and that your plan has an available camera slot.
- Check that Home is enabled under iCloud settings and that a HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad is acting as a home hub.
- Keep the camera and hub connected to the home network and update their software.
- Remove and re-add the accessory only after recording the HomeKit code and reviewing the manufacturer’s reset instructions.

Review the plan screen for the current price and terms in your country. Apple can revise prices, operating-system requirements, labels, and regional support, so the controls shown on your signed-in device are the authoritative starting point.
