How to Set Up and Use Both Screens on the ASUS Zenbook DUO

To use both displays on an ASUS Zenbook DUO, unfold its kickstand, turn on the second screen in ScreenXpert if needed, and set Windows to Extend these displays. You can then use the included Bluetooth keyboard in laptop mode, arrange windows across the two touchscreens, or switch to ScreenXpert’s virtual keyboard and other controls.

These instructions apply to the Zenbook DUO UX8406MA, UX8406CA, and UX8407AA covered by ASUS’s FAQ, last updated April 9, 2026. Check your exact model and regional bundle: specifications and included accessories can vary. See ASUS’s Zenbook DUO exclusive-feature FAQ and the model-specific support page.

Set up the displays

  1. Open the built-in kickstand. Position the computer so both screens are visible at a comfortable angle.
  2. Turn on the second screen. Open ScreenXpert and make sure Switch on the second screen is enabled.
  3. Extend the Windows desktop. Go to Windows Settings > System > Display and choose Extend these displays. This lets you place different windows on each screen rather than showing the same image on both.

If the lower display stays black, check the ScreenXpert switch first, then confirm Windows is set to Extend. ASUS’s FAQ gives the instruction: “Please check whether the [Switch on the second screen] function is turned on in ScreenXpert.”

Choose a way to use the two screens

Dual-screen mode

Keep both displays open on the kickstand and put a different window on each—for example, a document on one screen and reference material on the other. This is the straightforward arrangement when you want both displays visible at once.

Laptop mode with the virtual keyboard

Use ScreenXpert’s virtual keyboard on the lower display when you want an all-screen setup. ASUS says a virtual keyboard can also appear automatically when you tap a text field if no Bluetooth keyboard is connected.

Use ScreenXpert gestures and controls

ScreenXpert is required for the touchscreen gestures below. If gestures are unreliable, ASUS recommends updating the BIOS and ScreenXpert using support materials for your exact model.

  • Six fingers: Tap the lower screen with six fingers to show the virtual keyboard. Swipe up again to expand it to full screen. Swipe down with six fingers to close functions in reverse opening order; a swipe down in the bottom third closes all functions.
  • Three fingers: Tap the second screen with three fingers to open the virtual touchpad. You can move it; ASUS says it returns to its previous position when reopened.
  • One finger: Drag a window, then swipe lightly to move it to full-screen on the other display.
  • Five fingers: ASUS’s example uses a five-finger spread on an open MyASUS window to expand it full-screen. Pinching inward sends it full-screen to the main screen.
  • Two fingers for widgets: First enable widgets in ScreenXpert and place them on the second screen with the virtual keyboard enabled. Widgets need to occupy the same position to support switching. To show only the keyboard, close the widget and use the six-finger gesture.

The ScreenXpert panel also provides brightness adjustment, a virtual-keyboard switch, Bluetooth device status, a second-screen switch, sharing mode, and rotation lock. Brightness can be adjusted independently or synchronized across both panels.

Pair and charge the Bluetooth keyboard

  1. Update the computer drivers through MyASUS. ASUS advises doing this before pairing.
  2. Put the keyboard in pairing mode. Hold F10 or F11 until its indicator flashes.
  3. Connect it in Windows. Select the connection pop-up if it appears. If it does not, go to Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device and pair manually.
  4. Enter the PIN if prompted. Type the displayed PIN on the keyboard and press Enter.

Charge the keyboard through its POGO PIN connection or USB-C port. Its USB-C port does not support data transfer. ScreenXpert’s Bluetooth device status control shows the keyboard’s battery level. ASUS states that a full charge with the backlight off supports more than 24 hours; this is the manufacturer’s figure, not an independent test. The keyboard backlight increases power use and can be toggled with F4 or Fn+F4.

The displays look different

ASUS says a slight color difference can be normal because the panels are viewed at different angles. If the difference is pronounced, compare their Splendid mode in MyASUS > Device Settings > Audio & Vision > Splendid, then check the Windows Display color profile and HDR settings.

The lower display has reflections

Adjust the physical angle using the kickstand. ASUS also recommends its optional multifunction laptop sleeve as a way to raise the screen angle and reduce reflections.

The second screen disappears at the lock screen

ASUS says the second screen is not displayed while the computer is locked, attributing this behavior to Microsoft and noting that it can reduce power use.

Optional accessories

The multifunction laptop sleeve is not required to use both screens. ASUS says its sleeve can fold into a stand and raise the keyboard by 12 degrees, which may improve the typing angle and airflow. Confirm that an accessory fits your exact model and regional bundle before buying; the pen is also optional and is only relevant if you want stylus input.
