The safest order is: prepare your old device and Apple Account, move your data with Quick Start or an iCloud download, create a strong passcode and Face ID, verify that you can recover your account, enable Find My, and then turn on Stolen Device Protection. Finish by checking for available software updates, reviewing permissions using the labels on your iOS build, and adding physical protection if you need it.
This sequence protects both your data and your ability to recover the phone. It also avoids a common mistake: transferring everything successfully but leaving Find My, Activation Lock, or account-recovery details unfinished.

What to prepare before turning on the iPhone 17 Pro
Have the old iPhone or iPad, your Apple Account sign-in details, a reliable Wi-Fi connection, and charging power available before you begin. Quick Start depends on the old device being nearby with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Keep both phones close to each other during migration and connect them to power, especially when you choose a direct transfer.
- Old device: Keep it available, charged, and signed in. Quick Start can use another iPhone or iPad.
- Apple Account: Make sure you know the account used for Apple services and can access its current recovery methods.
- Network: Have Wi-Fi ready; the setup process can also use cellular service and may display a carrier-activation prompt.
- Power: Connect both devices to power for a direct transfer so neither shuts down while the migration is running.
- Managed devices: If the new iPhone is enrolled in Apple School Manager or Apple Business, Quick Start may not be available and your organization’s instructions take priority.
Do not erase the old phone until you have checked the new one. A completed transfer screen does not by itself prove that every account, photo, message, app, or security setting is ready to use.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Choose how to transfer everything to the new iPhone
Apple supports more than one restore route. The practical choice is whether you still have the old device and whether you want a device-to-device move or an iCloud download that continues in the background.
| Route | Old device needed? | What happens | When it fits | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quick Start direct transfer | Yes, an iPhone or iPad nearby | Data moves directly from the old device to the new one. | You want the closest device-to-device migration. | You must wait for the transfer to finish on both phones; time varies with data volume and network conditions. |
| Quick Start with iCloud download | Usually yes to begin Quick Start, then the new phone downloads from iCloud | Apps and data download from iCloud in the background. | You prefer a background download rather than keeping a direct transfer running. | Completion time depends on your connection and the amount of data. |
| Computer-backup restore | A backup made on a computer | Restores from an existing computer backup. | You already maintain a current backup on a computer. | Apple lists this option, but the cited Quick Start guidance does not detail its comparative timing or limitations. |
Apple’s current Quick Start instructions are available at Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad.
Run a direct Quick Start transfer
- Turn on the iPhone 17 Pro and place it next to the old iPhone or iPad.
- Confirm that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on the old device. Keep both devices near one another.
- Follow the Quick Start prompt that appears on the old device and authenticate when requested.
- Choose the direct device-to-device transfer when the setup screen offers the transfer methods.
- Keep both devices connected to power and close together until the transfer finishes on both phones. Do not treat a partially completed progress screen as a failure; transfer time changes with network conditions and the amount of data.
- When setup reaches the Home Screen, open important apps and check recent photos, messages, contacts, and files before wiping the old device.
Use the iCloud download option
If you choose to download apps and data from iCloud, the new iPhone can continue that download in the background. Leave the phone connected to a dependable network and power while the remaining content arrives. The exact time depends on the size of the data set and network conditions, so a newly visible Home Screen does not necessarily mean every app or file has finished downloading.
When Quick Start is unavailable
A new iPhone enrolled through Apple School Manager or Apple Business may not offer Quick Start. In that situation, follow the organization’s deployment process instead of trying to bypass management. If you have a current computer backup, Apple also lists computer restore as an option; the available source does not establish a detailed comparison of that route with Quick Start.
Complete network, carrier, and Apple Account setup
During the setup assistant, connect to Wi-Fi or cellular service and respond to any carrier activation prompt. The exact screens can differ by carrier and by an organization’s configuration. Then sign in with the Apple Account you use for Apple services. Use the same account you intend to protect with Find My and Stolen Device Protection; mixing accounts can make recovery and ownership checks harder later.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
After sign-in, wait for account content and services to settle before declaring setup complete. If a prompt asks for an Apple Account password again, verify that it is the account you meant to use rather than repeatedly entering credentials for a different account.
Create the passcode and configure Face ID
A passcode is the foundation for the iPhone’s local security. Choose one you can remember but another person cannot easily guess. The selected Apple guidance does not establish a specific minimum length or a particular passcode format, so this guide does not claim one.
- During setup, open the Face ID and passcode configuration when prompted.
- Create and confirm the device passcode.
- Complete the Face ID enrollment by following the on-screen positioning instructions.
- Test unlocking with Face ID, then confirm that the passcode still works if Face ID is unavailable.
Face ID data is designed to remain on the phone. Apple Support states: “For your security, Face ID and Touch ID data doesn’t leave your device and isn’t saved anywhere else.” Read Apple’s setup guidance in the iPhone User Guide for iOS 26.
Do not share the passcode with someone who may handle the phone. Face ID is convenient, but the passcode remains essential for recovery situations and for features that require a device credential.
Verify Apple Account recovery before relying on the phone
Security controls are only useful if you can still access the Apple Account that controls them. Before discarding or erasing the old device, confirm that you can sign in to the account and reach the recovery routes currently shown for it. Keep those routes current and accessible. Apple warns that losing access to the Apple Account or its recovery methods can prevent access to the account and can interfere with reactivating the device.

This check matters particularly because Stolen Device Protection requires Apple Account two-factor authentication. If two-factor authentication is not already active, finish the account-security step before expecting Stolen Device Protection to meet its prerequisites.

Turn on Find My and understand Activation Lock
Find My is the feature that lets you locate the iPhone through the Find My app or iCloud.com and supports Apple’s lost-device response.
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of Settings.
- Choose Find My, then Find My iPhone.
- Enable Find My iPhone and complete any account confirmation shown on screen.
Apple says Activation Lock turns on automatically when Find My is enabled. The Apple Account password is required to turn off Find My, erase the device, or reactivate it. That means a person who obtains the phone cannot simply erase it and set it up as their own without the owner’s account credentials. See Apple’s explanation of Activation Lock for iPhone and iPad.
Test the Find My relationship while the phone is in your possession by opening the Find My app on another trusted device or using iCloud.com. The goal is to confirm that the new iPhone appears under the expected Apple Account before a loss occurs.
Enable Stolen Device Protection
Stolen Device Protection is designed for a situation in which someone has stolen the iPhone and knows its passcode. For protected operations, the phone can require Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback. For some particularly sensitive actions, Apple describes a one-hour security delay followed by another biometric authentication.

Prerequisites
Apple lists these prerequisites: Apple Account two-factor authentication, a device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, Find My, and Location Services. Enable the feature before the phone is lost or stolen; turning it on after an incident is not a substitute for having it active beforehand.
Choose the location behavior
| Setting | Where extra protection applies | Security effect | Convenience trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Away from Familiar Locations | When the iPhone is away from places it recognizes as familiar, such as home or work | Biometric checks and, for some actions, the one-hour delay apply in the higher-risk situation. | Fewer interruptions during ordinary use in familiar places. |
| Always | Everywhere, including familiar locations | The additional requirements remain active regardless of location. | More friction for legitimate account and security changes, even at home or work. |
Review the Stolen Device Protection controls in the current iOS 26 interface and choose the location setting that matches your tolerance for security friction. Apple’s detailed explanations are in Use Stolen Device Protection on iPhone and About Stolen Device Protection for iPhone.
Check software and privacy settings without guessing at labels
Once data has arrived, check whether the phone offers an iOS update and install it when you are ready. Apple’s setup material used for this guide does not establish a fixed update checklist or a guaranteed menu path, and labels can change between releases, so follow the current wording shown on your iPhone rather than an older screenshot.
Review privacy permissions as apps request access. Grant only what a particular app needs for the function you intend to use, and revisit permissions if an app’s behavior changes. Because the available sources do not document a current, detailed permission-by-permission path, avoid relying on a copied menu sequence that may not match your iOS build.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro product information lists iOS 26 and a one-metre USB-C charge cable in the box. It says a power adapter is not included. If you do not already have a compatible USB-C power adapter, that is an optional purchase needed for wired charging; it is not a requirement for Find My, Face ID, or the other software protections.

The same product information says the phone ships without a protective cover. A case that fits the exact iPhone 17 Pro model is optional physical protection against drops and scratches, not a digital-security control. Check the model fit before buying. Product details are listed in Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro technical specifications.
What to do if the iPhone goes missing
Use the Find My app or iCloud.com to mark the phone as lost as soon as you can. Lost Mode locks the screen with the existing passcode and lets you display a custom contact message. Do not publish your Apple Account password or passcode in that message.
If you recover the phone, confirm that it still appears in Find My and that your account remains signed in before returning to normal use. If you cannot recover it, Activation Lock continues to require your Apple Account password for turning off Find My, erasing the device, or reactivating it.

The old device does not show Quick Start
- Confirm that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on the old device.
- Move the devices close together and keep the new iPhone on its setup screen.
- Check whether the new phone is managed through Apple School Manager or Apple Business; that enrollment can make Quick Start unavailable.
- If management is not the cause, use the iCloud-download or computer-backup route that is available to you.
The transfer appears stuck
- Keep both phones near each other and connected to power.
- Allow additional time when the old phone contains a large amount of data or the network is slow.
- Do not erase the old phone while the new one is still missing expected content.
You cannot finish Stolen Device Protection
- Check that Apple Account two-factor authentication is active.
- Confirm that a device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, Find My, and Location Services are enabled.
- Complete these prerequisites before trying again; the feature is intended to be active before loss or theft.
You are locked out of the Apple Account
Stop changing settings at random and use the account’s current recovery process. Apple warns that losing access to the account or its recovery routes can also prevent device reactivation, so resolve account access before erasing the old phone or relying on the new one as your only recovery device.
A practical completion standard
Setup is complete when the new iPhone has your expected data, a working passcode and Face ID, an Apple Account you can recover, Find My enabled with Activation Lock, and Stolen Device Protection configured. At that point, software-update and privacy reviews are follow-up maintenance, while a USB-C adapter or case remains an optional physical-accessory decision.
