Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTruckful is available on Steam, and its store page lists SteamOS + Linux requirements, so you can install it directly on a Steam Deck. The important qualification is the compatibility badge: Steam currently shows Unknown. That means Valve has not completed or published a compatibility review for the game; it does not mean the game is confirmed not to run.
MythicOwl, the developer, says it tested Truckful extensively on Steam Deck and saw a steady 60 frames per second on high settings through most of the game. That is a developer report, not a Valve Verified rating, an independent benchmark, or a guaranteed result for every Deck. The safest setup is to install from Steam, launch with the default compatibility configuration, and check the current compatibility details and patch notes if anything goes wrong.

What the Steam Deck status actually tells you
On the Steam store listing, Truckful has a Deck compatibility status of Unknown. Valve uses this label when a game has not gone through its published compatibility review. For reviewed titles, Valve exposes compatibility details in the Store and Library interfaces, covering areas such as controller input, text and interface legibility, seamless launching, and system support. An Unknown badge therefore describes the state of Valve’s review, not a failed test.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe badge can change. Valve describes its compatibility ratings as an ongoing review that may be updated as games and Steam Deck features change. A future update could add a formal rating or new notes, while a game patch could alter behavior before Valve changes the badge. Treat the current label as an evidence limit: there is no completed Valve assessment to rely on yet.

Truckful is listed as released on October 9, 2026. The store page also lists SteamOS + Linux requirements, which makes a direct Deck installation reasonable, but those platform requirements do not convert the Unknown badge into Verified, Playable, or Unsupported.
These signals answer different questions. The Linux requirements describe the platform information supplied by the publisher. Valve’s badge describes the status of its own review process. MythicOwl’s testing statement describes what the developer says it observed. None of the three should be substituted for another. Reading them separately gives you a more accurate expectation than treating one label as a complete technical verdict.
Check the listed requirements and leave room for updates
The Steam listing gives the following platform requirements. They are the game’s published requirements, not a separate guarantee for every Steam Deck model.
| Platform and tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics memory and GPU example | Graphics API | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windows minimum | Not stated in the listing summary | 4 GB RAM | 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer | DirectX 10 | 2 GB available |
| SteamOS + Linux minimum | 64-bit processor at 2.4 GHz | 4 GB RAM | 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer | Not stated for this platform | 2 GB available |
| Windows recommended | Not stated in the listing summary | 8 GB RAM | 3 GB VRAM; GeForce GTX 1060 or newer | DirectX 12 | 3 GB available |
The 2 GB figure is a minimum free-space requirement, not a sensible reserve for a Deck. Keep additional capacity available for updates, shader data, and the normal overhead of Steam’s installation process. The listing does not provide a separate recommended storage reserve for SteamOS, so avoid treating exactly 2 GB free as a target.
The Linux entry specifies a 64-bit 2.4 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, 2 GB of VRAM, and 2 GB of storage. Those figures help explain why the game is presented as installable on SteamOS, but they do not describe how a particular Deck will perform in every scene or after every patch. Your Deck’s operating-system version, game build, display settings, and background activity can all affect the result.
The Windows rows are useful context rather than a conversion chart for the Deck. The listing’s 3 GB storage recommendation applies to recommended Windows configuration, while the SteamOS row publishes 2 GB as its minimum. Do not infer that a Deck needs a particular Windows graphics API, nor that matching one number guarantees a particular frame rate. The store page does not publish a model-by-model Deck target.
Install Truckful from the Deck
- Open the Library. From the Steam Deck home screen, open your Library and select Truckful from your owned games. If it is not installed, open its Steam store listing and choose the install command.
- Choose an installation location. Select the internal drive or an inserted storage device with enough free capacity. The listing’s minimum is 2 GB; leave extra room for updates and shader data rather than filling the device to that number.
- Wait for the complete download. Let Steam finish both the game files and any post-installation processing it displays. Starting before that work is complete can create a misleading first-launch failure.
- Start with Steam’s default compatibility configuration. The published information does not establish that owners need to force a particular Proton version. Launch normally first instead of applying a community override pre-emptively.
- Use the Deck’s built-in controls during first launch. Confirm that the menus respond to the built-in sticks, buttons, triggers, and touch controls you normally use. The launch-period developer patch added PlayStation controller support, but it did not publish a Deck-specific remapping procedure.
- Reach the game menu before changing anything. Allow the title to complete its first startup, then note the game build shown by Steam or the title’s own menus if available. Keeping that build information makes later troubleshooting more useful.
If the default launch works, keep that configuration until you have a concrete reason to change it. A Proton override can introduce a second variable when the problem is actually a game patch, controller conflict, or incomplete installation. If the default launch fails, use the troubleshooting sequence below and check the current Steam compatibility details before trying a game-specific workaround.

If you use a microSD card, check that it remains mounted and has more than the bare minimum free space. A nearly full card can leave too little room for temporary update files even when the store’s 2 GB figure appears to fit. This is a storage-management precaution, not a separate Truckful requirement.
Set up controls without assuming a special Deck profile
The available launch-period notes confirm that PlayStation controller support was added. They do not document a special Steam Deck control layout or a required community profile. Begin with the Deck’s standard controls and test the actions you will use most: steering, camera movement, acceleration and braking, menu navigation, cargo rotation, and skill installation.

A double-input bug affecting cargo rotation and skill installation was listed as fixed in an official launch-period patch. If one of those actions appears to trigger twice, first confirm that the game is fully patched and restart it. Do not infer that every input problem is a Deck hardware fault; the title itself had a documented input defect at launch.
The same patch enabled mouse control in the main menu. That can help if a menu item is difficult to select with a controller, but it is not a requirement for normal play. The Deck’s touchscreen or trackpads can provide pointer input when a menu demands it.
Test controls in a low-risk menu or opening area before committing to a long session. Check that the intended button produces one action, that the camera does not drift, and that menu focus moves predictably. If a controller is connected wirelessly or by USB, temporarily disconnecting it can help isolate a duplicate-input symptom, but the documented launch bug and the latest patch notes should remain your first references.
Performance: what is known and what is not
MythicOwl says it has been testing Truckful on Steam Deck extensively since the announcement in 2024 and demonstrated its builds at PAX East and PAX West. The studio’s published statement says the game maintained a steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game. The developer also said that 30 fps with high details should be achievable on the lower-end devices described by its requirements.
“We’re extensively testing Truckful on Steam Deck since the announcement back in 2024, travelled to both PAX East and West where we showcased all demos on this great device and there is no other way than just to confirm Truckful maintaining a steady 60fps on high settings throughout most of the game!”
That statement is useful evidence of the developer’s target and testing experience, but it has clear limits. It is not an independent measurement, does not provide frame-time data or a statistical average, and does not promise 60 fps in every location, update, or play session. “Through most of the game” leaves room for heavier scenes, and “should be achievable” is deliberately less certain than a guarantee.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →No independent frame-rate benchmark is established for this guide. If your result differs from the studio’s report, record the game build, Deck software state, graphics configuration, and where the slowdown occurs before drawing a conclusion. A single busy scene is not equivalent to the developer’s “most of the game” qualification, while a smooth menu does not prove that every gameplay area will behave identically.
Use the developer’s figures as expectations rather than promises: high settings and 60 fps are the studio’s reported experience for most play, while 30 fps at high details is the lower-end expectation the studio says should be attainable. The Unknown Valve badge remains separate from both statements.
There is no named independent study or statistical dataset that establishes an average frame rate for this title on Deck. For that reason, avoid presenting 60 fps as a floor, quoting a one-minute result as a whole-game average, or treating the developer’s PAX demonstrations as a formal certification. The most defensible comparison is between the evidence types: Valve review status, the store’s platform requirements, the developer’s reported testing, and the date of the latest patch.

Launch-period fixes and issues to recognize
An official launch-period patch announcement reported four relevant changes:
Recommended Free Tools
- PlayStation controller support was added.
- A double-input bug affecting cargo rotation and skill installation was fixed.
- Mouse control was enabled in the main menu.
- User-interface performance was slightly improved.
The same announcement identified softlocks in some areas as a known issue at that point. “Known at launch” is not the same as “still present today”: subsequent patches may have changed the behavior. Before treating any of these notes as current, compare your installed build with the newest official announcement available on the game’s Steam page.
Troubleshoot a failed launch or unexpected behavior
If the game does not start
- Restart Truckful and try the normal Steam launch again. This establishes whether the first failure was transient.
- Record the installed game build and the Deck’s current software state. Include those details in any support report instead of describing the problem only as “it does not work.”
- Open the game’s current Steam compatibility details in the Store or Library. Valve places review information in those locations for titles that have been assessed, and the entry may have changed since you installed the game.
- Read the newest official patch notes or announcement. A launch issue may already have a documented fix, or a recent update may explain a new regression.
- Keep the default compatibility configuration unless an official note or current compatibility guidance gives you a reason to change it. The available information does not establish a required Proton override for Truckful.
If controls respond twice or an action is unreliable
Confirm that Steam has finished updating the game, then restart it and retest cargo rotation and skill installation. Those actions were specifically associated with a launch-period double-input bug that the developer said it fixed. If the problem affects a different action, document the exact button, menu, and game build, then consult current patch notes rather than assuming the same fix applies.
If menus are hard to operate
Use the Deck’s built-in controls first. The launch-period patch added mouse control in the main menu, so the touchscreen or trackpads can provide pointer input when controller navigation is awkward. This is a menu-input option, not evidence that the game requires a mouse for gameplay.
If you encounter a softlock
Softlocks in some areas were listed as a known launch-period issue. Restart the game, note the location and build, and check the newest official notes for a later fix before applying an unofficial workaround. Because the issue was reported at a particular point in the game’s update history, do not assume that every current installation is affected or that every old report describes the present build.

If performance is below the developer’s report
First distinguish a sustained problem from a short drop in a demanding scene. Record where it happens and which settings are active, then check whether a game or Deck update has recently changed the result. The 60-fps figure is the developer’s report for high settings through most of the game, not an independently verified floor. The studio’s lower-end guidance is that 30 fps with high details should be achievable, not that every device must hold it everywhere.
If an update appears stuck
Return to the Library and confirm whether Steam is downloading, installing, or waiting for space. Do not launch repeatedly while an update is incomplete. Once the queue finishes, restart the game and note the new build number. If the behavior began immediately after an update, include that timing in a support report and consult the latest official announcement before changing compatibility settings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to decide whether your setup is ready
Your installation is in a sensible starting state when Steam has completed the download, the game launches with its default compatibility configuration, and the built-in controls operate through menus and gameplay. At that point, evaluate performance over more than one area before making changes. If something fails, the most useful next action is usually to identify the exact build and consult current compatibility details and patch notes.
Do not interpret SteamOS + Linux requirements as a completed Valve certification. Conversely, do not interpret Unknown as a failure verdict. These are separate signals: the store lists a Linux-compatible requirements block, Valve has not published a completed Deck review, and MythicOwl reports its own extensive Deck testing.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
A practical go/no-go decision is therefore simple. If the game installs, launches, accepts the built-in controls, and remains playable in several areas, you have a valid starting setup even while the badge remains Unknown. If it fails, preserve the evidence before experimenting: build number, Deck software version, location in the game, input used, and whether the issue survives a restart. That information is more useful than an unsupported claim that a particular Proton version is universally required.
Steam Deck setup checklist
- Ownership: You own Truckful on Steam and can see it in the Library.
- Space: At least 2 GB is available, with additional room reserved for updates and shader data.
- Install: Steam has completed the game download and post-installation processing.
- Configuration: The first launch uses Steam’s default compatibility setup.
- Controls: Built-in Deck controls work, and you know that mouse input is available in the main menu.
- Evidence: You can identify the game build and Deck software state if a fault appears.
- Updates: You have checked the latest compatibility details and official patch notes before forcing a Proton version or adopting a workaround.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Unknown badge mean Truckful will not run on Steam Deck?
No. Unknown means Valve has not completed or published its compatibility review for the title. It is not a failure verdict. The store separately lists SteamOS + Linux requirements, and MythicOwl reports extensive Deck testing.
Do I need to force a Proton version?
There is no established requirement to force one. Install and launch with Steam’s default compatibility configuration first. If that fails, check the current Steam compatibility details and official patch notes before trying an override.
How much storage does Truckful need?
The Steam listing gives 2 GB as the minimum available storage for SteamOS + Linux. Keep additional free space for updates, shader data, and installation overhead; exactly 2 GB should not be treated as a recommended reserve.
Can I play with the built-in Steam Deck controls?
Start with the built-in controls. The launch-period patch added PlayStation controller support and mouse control in the main menu, but it did not document a special Deck remapping procedure.
What frame rate should I expect?
MythicOwl reports steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game and says 30 fps with high details should be achievable on lower-end devices described by the requirements. Those are developer statements, not independent measurements or guarantees.
What should I do if cargo rotation or skill installation triggers twice?
Make sure Steam has installed the latest update, restart the game, and retest. A launch-period patch specifically reported fixing a double-input bug affecting those actions. If it continues, record the build and consult newer patch notes.
Are launch-period softlocks still present?
Softlocks in some areas were listed as a known issue in the launch-period announcement. Later updates may have changed that behavior, so check the newest official notes rather than assuming an old report describes the current build.
The Bottom Line
Truckful can be installed from Steam on a Deck using the normal process: leave more than the listed 2 GB minimum free, let Steam finish processing, and try the default compatibility configuration first. Steam’s Unknown badge means Valve has not published a completed review, not that the game is confirmed incompatible. MythicOwl reports 60 fps on high settings through most of the game, but that remains a developer report rather than a guarantee. If launch, control, softlock, or performance problems appear, record the build and Deck software state, restart, and consult the latest Steam compatibility details and official patch notes before forcing a Proton version.
