What you need before starting
The platform version determines the installation route, controller choices, and the hardware you must provide. Xbox Wire documented the Xbox Series X|S and PC launch on January 25, 2023. PlayStation lists the PS5 release date as March 19, 2024. A reliable controller is helpful because the game is designed around timed attacks, dodges, parries, and partner commands. Steam lists Xbox controllers and DualShock controllers as supported. It also lists DualSense support over USB only; a compatible USB cable is therefore an optional need for a PC player using a DualSense without a suitable cable, not a universal requirement for every platform.

From the Xbox dashboard, open Microsoft Store and search for Hi-Fi RUSH. Select the official Xbox Series X|S listing, read the current price or subscription-access notice for your region, and confirm that the listing is the edition you intend to use. Download and launch
- Choose Get, Buy, or the applicable Game Pass install action shown by your account and region.
- Choose the internal drive or expansion storage location when Xbox asks where to install.
- Wait for the installation to finish, then launch the game from My games & apps.
- Keep the controller connected while the opening tutorial displays its timing prompts. Use those prompts to identify the beat rather than relying on a generic button map.
The Xbox listing describes a world in which traversal, puzzles, and enemy attacks follow the music. Expect timing to matter outside ordinary attack animations: listen and watch for the recurring pulse as you move through rooms and encounters.

Download the PS5 release
- Open PlayStation Store on the PS5 and search for Hi-Fi RUSH.
- Open the official PS5 product page, check the displayed edition and current regional access terms, and select Add to Library or the purchase/download control shown for your account.
- Start the download and allow the console to complete installation before beginning a long session.
- Launch from the game library. Keep the first tutorial active long enough to learn the on-screen beat and control reminders.
PlayStation lists the PS5 version as an action adventure whose characters, world, and combat synchronize to music. Its product page also documents practice mode, adjustable difficulty and assists, simplified quick-time events, and reminders for controls and tutorials. These are features described for the PS5 listing; do not assume that every menu label or option is identical on Xbox or PC.
Set learning and accessibility options before a difficult fight
Open the game’s settings and use the options exposed by your installed version. The PS5 listing documents the following choices:

- Audio cues can have visual or controller-vibration alternatives, helping when hearing a beat is difficult.
- Individual audio levels can be lowered or muted, so music, effects, and dialogue can be balanced for your room or headset.

These settings communicate information in more than one way, but they do not guarantee that every musical cue can be replaced in every situation. If a cue feels unclear, first try practice mode and the visual or vibration alternative before changing hardware.

Install on PC
Choose a target resolution first
KRAFTON’s PC guides, updated November 20, 2025, separate 1080p and UHD (4K) targets. Each tier lists a 60 FPS target. The figures are publisher guidance, not independent benchmark results, so actual frame rates can vary with drivers, background software, patches, and in-game settings.
1080p requirements
All 1080p tiers require Windows 10 64-bit, DirectX 12, 8 GB of RAM, and 20 GB of available storage. The graphics memory and preset change by tier:

The guide names TSR, NVIDIA DLSS, Intel XeSS, and AMD FSR 1.0 as supported upscalers for compatible GPUs. “Minimum” here means the publisher’s 1080p tier with the Low preset and performance upscaling; it is not a recommendation for a 4K display.

KRAFTON advises checking Intel’s compatibility requirements when using Arc graphics cards. If your system sits between tiers, select the lower preset first, confirm that frame pacing is stable, and then raise image quality one setting at a time. Do not infer performance from the GPU name alone: monitor resolution, VRAM, driver version, and upscaling mode all affect the result.
Install from a PC storefront
- Open the Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account you plan to use and search for the official Hi-Fi RUSH listing.
- Verify the publisher, edition, region, and current access terms shown on the live page.
- Install to a drive with at least 20 GB free, leaving additional working space for updates when possible.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver before the first launch.
- Connect your preferred controller. For DualSense, use USB because Steam lists wired support; wireless behavior should not be assumed from that listing.
- Start the game, open its graphics menu, select the resolution that matches your monitor, and begin with the KRAFTON tier closest to your hardware.
How the rhythm combat works
Feel the repeating beat
Hi-Fi RUSH’s central loop is not a conventional action game with music added afterward. The environment and combat animate to the soundtrack, and attacks timed to the beat gain rhythm-related benefits. Early encounters teach you to notice the recurring pulse, then press an attack, dodge, or other command in relation to it. Your character can still act between beats, but rhythm-timed inputs are the route to stronger, more reliable combat effects.
Build attacks into Beat Hits and combos
The PlayStation description identifies Beat Hits, combos, team attacks, special moves, and S-rank battle scoring. A practical learning sequence is:
- Watch the visual beat indicator and listen for the regular pulse during a safe encounter.
- Practice a single light attack until the animation lands on the pulse consistently.
- Extend that timing through a short combo instead of immediately attempting a long string.
- Add dodges, parries, and partner commands while keeping the same internal count.
- Use team attacks and special moves after the basic beat feels automatic.
- Review the battle result if you are chasing an S rank; score rewards accurate, efficient play rather than simply finishing the room.
When an attack appears late, pause and use practice mode or the tutorial reminder. A missed Beat Hit can come from an unfamiliar pattern, an incorrect button, or a performance problem; changing graphics settings is useful only after you have checked the first two possibilities.

Use the practice space instead of grinding failed fights
The PS5 listing specifically calls out practice mode. Use it to isolate one combo, partner attack, or quick-time event and repeat it without the pressure of a full battle. Enable control reminders if you have forgotten a command. If the rhythm feels visually or audibly delayed, compare the same move in practice mode, then test a different display or controller connection before concluding that the game’s timing is inconsistent.
Controller and display setup on PC
Controller connections
Steam’s listing names Xbox and DualShock controller support and says DualSense support is USB-only. An Xbox controller can therefore be connected through the method supported by your PC and controller, while a DualSense player should have a data-capable USB cable and an available PC port. Cable compatibility depends on the exact controller and port; a charging-only cable may not carry input data.
Use the game’s own control reminders for exact button assignments. The available platform material does not establish one complete button map shared by Xbox, PS5, and PC, and layouts can change after remapping. If on-screen prompts do not match your controller, check the selected input device and the remapping menu rather than memorizing a chart from another platform.

Keep timing stable
- Use a display mode and refresh setting your PC can sustain rather than chasing a peak frame-rate number.
- If you see uneven motion, lower the preset or enable the upscaler listed for your GPU.
- Close unnecessary background applications before diagnosing input timing.
- Keep graphics drivers current, especially after a major Windows or game update.
- Check whether your monitor or television adds a game-mode or processing delay; the game’s beat cues are easier to read when the display is predictable.

KRAFTON’s support guidance gives a specific order for a game that will not start. Work through it from the least invasive checks to the broader system changes:

- Verify minimum requirements. Compare your Windows version, DirectX 12 support, processor, graphics card, VRAM, RAM, and free storage with the correct 1080p or 4K table.
- Update graphics drivers. Install the current driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU, then restart Windows.
- Run the game as administrator. Use the storefront’s installation folder or shortcut properties to launch with elevated rights if your Windows account permits it.
- Verify game files. Use the repair or file-verification command in the storefront that installed the game.
- Unplug controllers before launch. Start the game without external controllers, then reconnect one after reaching the title screen to identify an input-device conflict.
- Check antivirus settings. Review quarantine and controlled-folder rules for a blocked game executable; do not disable protection permanently.
- Try compatibility mode. Use the Windows compatibility troubleshooter or executable properties if the current configuration fails to start.
- Select the primary GPU and high-performance profile. On a laptop or hybrid system, assign the game to the discrete GPU and choose the operating system’s high-performance power profile.
- Install the latest DirectX components. Reboot after installation if Windows requests it.
- Try a clean boot. Temporarily start Windows with nonessential startup services disabled to isolate a software conflict, then restore normal startup after testing.
If these steps do not resolve the launch problem, use KRAFTON’s current support channel. Record your Windows version, GPU and driver version, storefront, error text, and which step changed the behavior so support can reproduce the issue.
Support, accounts, and connectivity changes
Bethesda’s support FAQ states that “The publisher of Hi-Fi Rush has transitioned from Bethesda Softworks to KRAFTON.” The same FAQ directs technical and billing support to KRAFTON, says Bethesda.net connectivity in the game is deactivated, and says owned platform access, saves, and achievements are not affected. It also says Game Pass play continues. These account and support arrangements can change, so check the current FAQ before attempting an account migration or assuming that an online service is required.
The connectivity change does not turn Hi-Fi RUSH into an always-online game. The PS5 product page documents offline pausing, and the game’s core campaign and practice activities are presented as local play. Store authentication, platform licensing, updates, and cloud-save behavior remain controlled by the platform account you used to install the game.

There is no universal performance ranking among Xbox, PS5, and PC in the available official material. Choose using the factors that affect your own setup:

For a first playthrough, the most important choice is the platform you can operate comfortably and keep at a stable display and input setup. A perfectly matched beat is more valuable than a nominally higher resolution that introduces stutter or display delay.
