How to set up and map your home with the Shark Matrix Plus

To map your home with the Shark Matrix Plus, first confirm the robot’s model number, add it in the SharkClean app, charge it at the dock, and start the app’s guided Explore Run. The robot then travels through accessible rooms to identify walls, furniture, and obstacles. Once the map is saved, you can select areas for cleaning and create no-go zones where those controls are available for your model and app version.

Do not skip the model check. Shark identifies RV2610WA as a Matrix Plus 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop, while Shark’s manuals index also lists an RV2600WA Series owner guide and quick start guide for the Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Self-Empty XL. The instructions below explain the shared Matrix mapping workflow, but use the guide matching the number printed on your robot or box when an app prompt differs.

1. Confirm which Matrix Plus you own

Look for the model number on the robot’s label, packaging, purchase record, or the device information shown after you add it to SharkClean. The RV2610WA product listing and the RV2600WA Series manuals refer to closely related Matrix Plus products, but a guide for one series should not automatically be treated as the exact manual for the other.

What you see How to use it
RV2610WA Use the RV2610WA product information and the model-specific instructions presented by SharkClean.
RV2600WA Series Use the RV2600WA Series owner guide and quick start guide for the Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Self-Empty XL.
2400WD Series guide Useful for general Matrix 2-in-1 mapping context, including the Explore Run, but not proof that every prompt or timing applies to RV2610WA.

If the number on the robot does not match the number you selected in the app, stop and correct the selection before mapping. Model-specific firmware, dock behavior, and available map controls can differ.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Prepare the dock, robot, and rooms

A good first map depends more on a stable starting point than on speed. Set up the dock before starting the app procedure and leave it where you expect to keep it. The robot uses the dock as its reference for starting, charging, and returning after a run.

Use a permanent dock position

  • Place the dock on a level surface where the robot can approach and leave it without being blocked.
  • Keep the dock connected to power while setup and mapping are in progress.
  • Do not carry the dock to another wall or room during an Explore Run.
  • Do not pick up and relocate the robot while it is mapping unless the app or the model guide specifically tells you to do so.

Shark’s indexed guide warns that moving the dock or robot during operation can interfere with the cleaning path or the robot’s return to the dock. If you later move the dock, expect the saved map or navigation behavior to require correction according to the model’s instructions.

Make the intended rooms accessible

Remove temporary obstacles that could prevent the robot from entering areas you want represented on the map. Leave normal doorways open for rooms that should be discovered, and keep people, pets, loose cables, clothing, and other movable objects from blocking the robot during the run. The purpose of the first pass is to let the robot identify the home’s boundaries and obstacles, not to test how it handles a deliberately obstructed floor.

Start with a charged robot

Shark’s 2400WD Series guide recommends fully charging before the first cleaning. That is a sensible starting condition for a mapping run, but its stated charging time is not a confirmed RV2610WA specification. The 2400WD guide says charging may take up to six hours; do not use that number as a guaranteed RV2610WA charge time. Follow the time, indicator, or app status shown for your exact model.

3. Install SharkClean and add the robot

Install or update the app

  1. Install the current SharkClean app from the official app store for your phone.
  2. Open the app and sign in or create a Shark account when prompted.
  3. Allow the phone permissions the app requests for device setup and local network discovery. If you deny a permission, the app may not be able to find the robot; you can review permissions in your phone’s settings.
  4. Keep the phone near the robot and dock during pairing.

Buttons and menu names can change as Shark updates the app. Look for an option such as Add Device, Add Robot, or a plus sign, then choose the Matrix Plus model that matches the label on your unit. If the app offers several similar model names, compare the full model number rather than choosing the closest-looking product photo.

Connect the robot to your home network

  1. Follow the in-app pairing instructions until SharkClean asks you to connect the robot.
  2. Put the robot into the pairing state using the controls or button combination shown on the screen for your model.
  3. Select your home network in the app and enter its password when requested.
  4. Wait for the app to confirm that the robot is connected. Keep the app open until setup finishes.

Because the exact pairing screens are version-dependent, do not substitute a button sequence from a different Matrix series. If setup fails, restart the in-app process for the correct model instead of repeatedly selecting unrelated devices.

Verify the app sees the docked robot

After pairing, the device page should show the robot as available and its current status. Confirm that the robot is physically sitting at the dock before starting mapping. If the app shows a different model number, remove that device entry and add the model printed on your robot.

“After setup is complete, follow instructions in the app to help your robot conduct an Explore Run to create an initial map of your home.”

This quotation is from the 2400WD Series guide, so treat it as general Matrix 2-in-1 guidance. The RV2610WA app may use different labels or ask for additional confirmations.

Follow the guided launch

  1. Open the robot’s page in SharkClean and locate the mapping, Explore Run, or initial-map prompt.
  2. Read the on-screen preparation checklist. Resolve any warning about the dock, battery, connectivity, or blocked path before continuing.
  3. Start the Explore Run from the app. Do not start a normal cleaning job instead unless the exact model guide instructs you to.
  4. Let the robot travel from room to room. The guide describes this process as identifying walls, furniture, and obstacles.
  5. Keep the dock and robot in place while the run is active. Avoid closing doors that were open when the run began if doing so would cut off rooms you want mapped.
  6. Wait for the app to report that the run or map creation is complete, then open the map view and inspect the result.

What the robot is doing

Shark describes the RV2610WA’s mapping system as 360-degree LiDAR. During exploration, the robot uses its navigation sensors to build a representation of reachable space and obstacles. The map is not a floor-plan drawing made by the phone; it is navigation data displayed through SharkClean so you can direct later jobs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What counts as a successful first map

  • The app displays the areas the robot could reach during the run.
  • Walls and major furniture boundaries appear in approximately the correct positions.
  • The map is associated with the correct robot and remains visible after you close and reopen the app.
  • The robot can return to the dock without you carrying it.

A map can be incomplete when a doorway is blocked, a room is inaccessible, the robot loses connection, or the run is interrupted. Fix the physical or connection problem first. Then use the map or Explore Run option offered for your exact model; some app versions may let you continue or create a new map, while others may require starting the mapping process again.

5. Check and edit the map

Open the saved map in SharkClean after the Explore Run. App labels and editing tools can change between versions, so the names below describe the functions rather than guaranteeing a particular button location.

Map control Use it for Important limitation
Area or room selection Directing a cleaning job to a selected room or mapped area instead of the entire home. Only areas represented on the saved map can be selected.
No-go zone Marking a mapped region the robot should not enter. Availability and placement tools depend on the model and current app version.
Room or area labels Making later selections easier to recognize. Labels describe the map; they do not make an inaccessible room reachable.
Map refresh or remap option Rebuilding or updating a map after the layout changes. The exact option and behavior must be confirmed in the model-specific guide.

Select a specific area

  1. Open the map from the robot’s device page.
  2. Choose the room, zone, or area-selection control shown by your app.
  3. Tap the mapped area you want cleaned and review the highlighted selection.
  4. Start the job only after confirming that the robot is docked and the selected area is reachable.

Area cleaning is useful when you need a quick pass in one room or want to avoid running the robot through the entire home. If a room is missing from the map, selecting it is impossible until the robot explores that space.

Create no-go zones

  1. Open the map-editing controls and choose the no-go-zone function if it is available.
  2. Draw or place the restricted shape over the mapped location that the robot must avoid.
  3. Save the edit and reopen the map to verify that the boundary remains visible.
  4. Run a short job in a nearby area and observe the robot’s path before relying on the zone for a critical restriction.

Shark identifies no-go zones as an app feature for keeping the robot out of selected areas. Because controls can change, do not assume a no-go zone has been saved until the app displays it on the map. For a temporary physical hazard, also remove the hazard or block access; software boundaries should not be your only protection around fragile objects, spills, or unsafe conditions.

6. Troubleshoot common setup and mapping problems

The app cannot find the robot

  • Confirm that the robot is powered, docked, and close to the phone.
  • Check that you selected the exact model number rather than a similar Matrix device.
  • Return to the app’s add-device flow and follow the current pairing prompts from the beginning.
  • Review the phone permissions requested by SharkClean and retry discovery.

If the app still cannot find the device, use the support procedure in the exact owner guide. Avoid applying a reset sequence from another series.

The Explore Run stops early

  • Check whether the robot is still connected in SharkClean.
  • Make sure the dock has not moved and that the robot has not been carried.
  • Clear the doorway or floor area where the robot stopped.
  • Recharge the robot if the app reports a low battery, then follow the model-specific instructions for continuing or restarting the map.

A room is missing

First determine whether the robot could physically enter it. An open door that was closed during exploration, a threshold obstruction, or furniture blocking the entrance can leave a room unmapped. Open the route and use the Explore Run or remapping option offered by your app. Do not draw a room manually and assume that the robot has learned a route it has never traveled.

The map looks shifted or the robot navigates poorly after moving the dock

Return the dock to its original position if possible. Shark’s guide warns that moving the dock or robot during operation can interfere with the cleaning path or return-to-dock behavior. If the map remains inaccurate, consult the exact model guide for its map reset or remapping procedure rather than deleting the map immediately.

No-go zones or area selection are unavailable

Confirm that the initial map has finished saving and that you are viewing the map associated with the correct robot. Shark lists area selection and no-go zones for the RV2610WA experience, but app features and labels can change. Update the app if an update is offered, then check the model-specific support instructions. If the controls still do not appear, the feature may not be enabled for that model, firmware, region, or account state.

7. Understand what mapping data means for privacy

Shark’s connected-device notice says mapping data from the robot is sent to the SharkClean app so you can see where the robot has cleaned. The same notice says camera images remain on the machine and are not accessed by SharkNinja. Check the current notice and its scope against your precise model before treating those statements as a universal policy for every Shark robot.

For practical privacy control, secure the account used for SharkClean, review the app permissions on your phone, and avoid sharing screenshots that reveal your home’s layout. If you sell or give away the robot, remove it from your account and follow the model’s account-removal or reset instructions so the next owner cannot use your saved device access.

8. A final first-map checklist

  • The number printed on the robot matches the model selected in SharkClean.
  • The dock is powered, level, and in the position where you intend to leave it.
  • The robot has been charged according to the instructions for that model.
  • Doors and paths to the rooms you want mapped are accessible.
  • The app’s Explore Run or initial-map workflow has been started, not an unrelated cleaning mode.
  • The robot and dock remain stationary during exploration.
  • The saved map shows the reachable rooms and major boundaries.
  • Area selection and no-go-zone controls are tested and visibly saved if your app provides them.
  • You have checked Shark’s current connected-device notice for the model and account you use.

Once these checks pass, use the map as the starting point for targeted cleaning. Keep the dock fixed, revise no-go zones when your furniture changes, and consult the exact RV2610WA or RV2600WA Series documentation whenever the app presents a prompt that does not match the general workflow described here.
