Bosch specifies a slight rearward tilt of about 15 mm (0.5°) at the top so the doors can self-close. Recheck the cabinet after it is in its final position rather than judging alignment by the doors alone.
Identify the appliance before you start
This procedure is for the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer with E-number KFN96APEAG/04. Bosch lists the appliance at 183 x 90.5 cm; confirm the E-number on your rating plate before using a manual or ordering a component. Bosch’s model-specific support page provides the user manual, installation instructions, interactive help, and spare-parts and accessory information.

The E-number matters because feet, spacers, shelves, door hardware and other accessories are not automatically interchangeable between similar-looking refrigerators. If your rating plate shows a different E-number, follow that model’s documentation instead of assuming the dimensions or adjustment method are identical.
What you need and what to check
Essential equipment
- A spirit level. Bosch explicitly requires one to set the appliance level.
- The two rear spacers and their two screws, supplied with the appliance in a plastic bag.
- A suitable screwdriver for the supplied spacer screws.
- A clear, protected route from the delivery position to the final position.
Choose a level that is practical for the cabinet
A short spirit level can work if its base sits securely on the appliance top, but a longer level makes a small cabinet slope easier to see. Prioritise a readable vial, a base that does not rock on the top surface, and stated vial accuracy. Do not balance the level on an uneven item or use the door edge as a substitute for a level.

Inspect the installation area
Remove packaging and loose objects from the route. Protect a vulnerable floor before moving the refrigerator. The appliance’s rollers are intended for forward or backward movement; Bosch warns that pushing it sideways may damage the floor. Plan the final approach so the refrigerator can be rolled straight rather than twisted across the room.
Install the rear spacers before final positioning
The spacers are not optional packing pieces to discard. Bosch’s installation document says to remove two screws, take the spacers from the plastic bag, and fix them to the back with those screws. They maintain the minimum distance from the wall and support airflow in the lower rear section.
- Locate the plastic bag containing the two rear spacers and the associated screws.
- Find the two pre-existing screw positions on the rear of the cabinet identified by the installation instructions.
- Remove the two screws, keeping them where they cannot be lost.
- Place the spacers against the rear mounting points in the orientation shown in the Bosch installation document.
- Reinsert and tighten the screws so each spacer is secure. Do not substitute a random block or omit a spacer to push the cabinet closer to the wall.
Fit the spacers before you make the final position. If they are added after the cabinet has been pushed into a tight gap, you may have to pull the heavy appliance forward again and repeat the positioning work.

Move the refrigerator without damaging the floor
Use the rollers only in their intended direction
Roll the appliance forwards or backwards. Do not drag one side around a corner, pivot it laterally, or force it sideways. Bosch specifically warns that sideways movement can damage the floor, even though the rollers make the cabinet appear manoeuvrable in more directions.
Keep the route controlled
- Clear the route and check that the destination allows the rear spacers to establish the required wall distance.
- Move the refrigerator in a straight forward or backward line, using enough people and control for its size and weight.
- Stop before the final position so you can reach the feet and place the spirit level.
- Push the appliance into its final location only after the rear spacers are fitted and the route is aligned.
Do not use the doors, handles, shelves or drawers as lifting or pulling points. If the cabinet must change direction, reposition it through a sequence of straight forward or backward movements rather than forcing a sideways slide.
Level the cabinet with the bottom feet
Bosch states: “To ensure that the appliance functions correctly, it must be set level with a spirit level.” The adjustable bottom feet are the parts used to stabilise and level the cabinet. They also provide the lower-rear clearance needed at the base.

- Place the spirit level on a stable, flat area of the appliance top. If the surface has a moulded feature, place the level where it can sit securely and read without rocking.
- Read the vial in one direction across the cabinet. Note which side is high rather than turning feet at random.
- Adjust the appropriate bottom foot or feet in small increments, following the adjustment direction shown in the Bosch installation instructions.
- After each small adjustment, allow the cabinet to settle and read the spirit level again.
- Check the level from the other direction as well. A cabinet can appear correct front-to-back while still being out of level from side to side.
- Continue until the cabinet is stable and the spirit-level reading is acceptable in both directions.
Make adjustments gradually. Large turns can overshoot the target and can make the cabinet rock on three points while one foot is no longer carrying its share of the load. The finished cabinet should not wobble when you apply light, even pressure to a solid part of the body.

Why the doors are not your measuring instrument
French-door and multi-door panels can look aligned even when the cabinet is not level, and a door can look uneven because of its own position or seal compression. Conversely, a small cabinet slope may not be obvious from the front. Use the spirit level for the cabinet and treat door movement as a functional check after the feet are set.
Set Bosch’s slight rearward tilt
Once the cabinet is level and stable, Bosch specifies tilting the top backward by about 15 mm (0.5°) by turning the adjustable feet. This rearward bias helps the doors self-close. It is a controlled installation angle, not permission to leave the entire appliance visibly leaning or unstable.

- Confirm that the cabinet is already level and that all required feet are supporting it.
- Turn the adjustable feet in small, even increments to raise the front enough to produce the specified rearward tilt.
- Use the spirit level to verify the change rather than estimating from the door gaps. The target given by Bosch is approximately 15 mm at the top, or 0.5°.
- Open each door a short distance and release it under controlled conditions. Check that it tends to move toward the closed position without slamming or catching.
- Check stability again. If the appliance rocks, correct the foot contact before using it.
The 15 mm (0.5°) figure is Bosch’s installation specification for this adjustment. Do not add a wedge under the cabinet or create the angle by leaving one foot loose; use the adjustable feet as directed.
Final-position verification
Perform these checks after the refrigerator has been rolled fully home. Moving it the last few centimetres can change a foot’s contact or alter the spirit-level reading.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Rear clearance: The supplied spacers are fitted and touching the intended wall area without being crushed or removed.
- Cabinet level: The spirit level has been read in both principal directions.
- Stability: The cabinet does not rock when lightly tested at a solid body panel.
- Door action: Doors move freely, meet their seals correctly, and benefit from the slight rearward tilt.
- Floor condition: No roller has gouged or scuffed the floor during positioning.
- Clearance: The final location does not force the refrigerator sideways against a wall, cabinet or other obstruction.
If any check fails, correct the feet and position before loading the appliance or treating setup as complete. Rechecking now is easier than trying to adjust a full refrigerator later.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely setup issue | Action |
|---|---|---|
| A door does not tend to close | The cabinet has no rearward tilt, is tilted in the wrong direction, or is not stable on its feet. | Read the spirit level again, restore a stable foot contact, then set Bosch’s approximately 15 mm (0.5°) rearward tilt. |
| The spirit-level bubble changes after moving the cabinet | The appliance was checked before it reached its final position, or a foot shifted while rolling. | Put the cabinet in its final location and repeat the level and stability checks. |
| The refrigerator rocks | One adjustable foot is not carrying the cabinet correctly, or adjustments were made too aggressively. | Make small foot adjustments until all required contacts are firm, then verify the level again. |
| The back is too close to the wall | The rear spacers were not installed, were installed incorrectly, or the cabinet was pushed past their intended stop. | Pull the appliance forward using a straight roller movement, install or correct both spacers, and reposition it. |
| The floor is marked after positioning | The refrigerator was forced sideways instead of rolled forwards or backwards. | Stop lateral movement. Protect the route and use straight movements for any further repositioning. |
| The doors look aligned but the cabinet reads out of level | Visual door alignment was used instead of a spirit level. | Use the level on the cabinet top and adjust the bottom feet; do not use the door appearance as the measurement. |
How to move it again later
Bosch gives a specific preparation for a later move: turn the adjustable feet back up before moving the appliance so it can roll freely. Once it is at the new location, reinstall or confirm the rear spacers, position it without sideways force, and repeat the complete leveling procedure.
- Remove items or prepare the cabinet as required by the user manual before moving it.
- Turn the adjustable feet back up so they do not obstruct free rolling.
- Roll the appliance only forwards or backwards; do not slide it laterally.
- At the destination, place the supplied spacers correctly against the rear and establish the intended wall distance.
- Lower and adjust the feet, check the cabinet with a spirit level, and set the slight rearward tilt again.
Do not assume a move has preserved the original adjustment. A different floor surface or a small change in position can alter both level and stability, so the spirit-level check is required each time.
Use the correct Bosch documentation and parts
For manuals, installation instructions, interactive help, or replacement parts, enter the exact Bosch E-number KFN96APEAG/04 on Bosch’s model support page. Match any replacement foot, spacer or accessory by exact E-number compatibility, physical fit and installation role. A generic foot that appears similar is not established as compatible merely because it has the same thread or shape.
The installation document is the authority for the spacer mounting points, adjustment method and specified tilt. If a part is missing, damaged or unclear, pause the installation and use the model-specific support material rather than improvising a substitute that could change wall clearance or cabinet stability.
Setup mistakes to avoid
- Discarding the spacers: They maintain the minimum wall distance and help support airflow in the lower rear section.
- Checking only the doors: Door appearance cannot replace a spirit-level reading.
- Rolling sideways: Bosch warns that lateral movement may damage the floor.
- Leaving the feet raised for normal use: The feet must be adjusted so the cabinet is stable, level and set to the specified rearward tilt.
- Creating the tilt with an improvised wedge: Use the adjustable feet and Bosch’s approximately 15 mm (0.5°) specification.
- Skipping the final recheck: The cabinet can shift while being pushed into its final position.
- Ordering by appearance: Confirm the exact E-number before selecting replacement parts or accessories.
A compact installation checklist
- Confirm the rating plate reads KFN96APEAG/04 and consult the matching Bosch documentation.
- Locate the two spacers and two screws in the supplied plastic bag.
- Remove the two rear screws, fit the spacers, and secure them again.
- Plan a straight forward/backward route and protect the floor.
- Roll the refrigerator into position without forcing it sideways.
- Place a spirit level on the cabinet top and adjust the bottom feet.
- Check level in both directions and confirm that the cabinet is stable.
- Set the top back by approximately 15 mm (0.5°) using the adjustable feet.
- Check door self-closing, seals, rear spacing and stability.
- If the appliance is moved later, raise the feet before rolling and repeat every check at the new location.
When to stop and get model-specific help
Stop if a spacer, screw or adjustable foot is missing; if a foot will not turn; if the cabinet remains unstable after careful adjustment; or if the installation area cannot provide the required rear distance. Use Bosch’s support entry for KFN96APEAG/04 and its interactive help or installation document before proceeding. The model-specific E-number is the reliable route to the correct manual and parts information.
