On the Nothing Phone (3), the Glyph Interface is configured in Settings > Glyph interface. Turn on Glyph lights, enable and choose Glyph Toys, then use the rear Glyph button for interactive patterns. The same area links calls and notifications to sound patterns, while Bedtime Schedule and Flip to Glyph control when and how the lights behave.
What the Glyph Interface controls
The Glyph Interface is the Phone (3)’s rear lighting and pattern system. Its controls are grouped under the Glyph interface settings rather than scattered through unrelated display or sound menus. You can use it for three different jobs:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Everyday alerts: ringtone and notification sounds can trigger associated Glyph patterns.
- Interactive Glyph Toys: selected toys produce patterns or animations when activated with the rear Glyph button.
- Behavior rules: a schedule can disable Glyph temporarily, or Flip to Glyph can make the phone silent while retaining lights-only alerts.
These functions are separate. Turning on Glyph lights does not by itself select Toys, change your ringtone, or enable a schedule. Set up the basic lights first, then configure each behavior you actually want.
Before you start
- Use a Nothing Phone (3); the Glyph Interface is hardware-specific to the phone.
- Keep the phone’s software reasonably current. Nothing can change menu wording or placement in a Nothing OS update.
- Have the sound files you want available if you plan to import notification or ringtone audio.
- Remember that the Glyph LEDs are on the back. A case, desk surface, or face-down placement can affect how easily you see them.
If a path below does not appear exactly as written, open Settings and search for “Glyph” first. The official support material for Phone (3) uses the capitalization “Glyph Interface” in some headings and “Glyph interface” in the Settings path; both refer to the same control area.

Turn on Glyph lights
Use the full Settings path
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph interface.
- Turn on Glyph lights.
This is the main on/off control. Once enabled, sound-linked Glyph patterns and other enabled Glyph behavior can use the rear lighting.
Use the Quick Settings shortcut
- Start on the Home screen.
- Swipe down to open Quick Settings.
- Tap Glyphs.
The Quick Settings tile is useful when you want to disable or restore the lights without navigating through Settings. It is a shortcut for the general lights control, not a replacement for choosing Toys, ringtones, sounds, or schedules.
If the lights still do not appear
- Confirm that Glyph lights is enabled in Settings, even if the Quick Settings tile looks active.
- Check that the rear of the phone is visible; lights cannot be seen through an opaque case or when the phone is screen-up.
- Trigger a call or notification only after you have assigned a sound or pattern. A silent event may not provide an obvious light cue.
- Restart the phone if the toggle changes but the hardware does not respond, then check the Glyph interface menu again.
These checks distinguish a disabled control from a visibility problem. If the menu itself has disappeared after an update, verify the installed Nothing OS version and look for updated support instructions before assuming the hardware has failed.

Enable the Toys section
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph Interface.
- Open Glyph toys.
- Turn on the Glyph Toys toggle.
- Select the Toys you want available.
Selection matters: enabling the section alone does not necessarily make every Toy available from the rear control. Choose the individual Toys you intend to use before trying to activate one.
Activate a Toy from the rear button
Use the pressure-sensitive Glyph button on the back of the Phone (3). Pressing or long-pressing it displays the corresponding Toy patterns or animations on the circular matrix screen, according to Nothing’s Phone (3) support guidance. The exact Toy shown depends on which Toys you enabled and selected in Settings.
- Press: use the normal button press to call up the selected Toy behavior.
- Long-press: hold the pressure-sensitive button when the Toy’s instructions or animation require a sustained activation.
Hold the phone so the rear matrix is visible while testing. If nothing happens, return to Settings > Glyph Interface > Glyph toys, confirm the master toggle, and verify that at least one Toy is selected.
Glyph Toys versus alert lighting
| Function | How it starts | What you configure |
|---|---|---|
| Glyph lights | Enabled system control or Glyphs Quick Settings tile | Whether the rear lights are available |
| Ringtone pattern | Incoming call with the selected ringtone | Ringtone and its associated Glyph pattern |
| Notification sound | Notification event using the selected sound | Original or imported notification sound |
| Glyph Toys | Press or long-press the rear Glyph button | Glyph Toys toggle and the Toys you select |
This distinction prevents a common setup mistake: expecting an interactive Toy to appear automatically when a message arrives, or expecting a ringtone selection to enable the Toys menu. They are different controls with different triggers.

Choose a ringtone and preview its Glyph pattern
Pick a default ringtone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph Interface.
- Open Ringtones.
- Tap Default Ringtone.
- Preview the available choices and select a ringtone.
Nothing says each ringtone has a unique associated Glyph pattern. Previewing before you save lets you hear the sound and see the light behavior together, rather than choosing by audio name alone.
Make the pattern useful in real rooms
Choose a pattern you can distinguish when the phone is across a room or on a desk. A distinctive sound-pattern pairing is more useful than simply choosing the loudest tone. Test the selected ringtone with the phone’s rear facing upward, because the Glyph pattern is a rear-facing visual signal.
If you change the ringtone later, preview the new association again. The pattern belongs to the ringtone choice; it is not a separate universal animation that you manually assign in another menu.
Customize notification sounds
Use Nothing sounds or your own audio
Nothing’s guidance says notifications can be configured in a similar way to ringtones. You can choose from original Nothing sounds or import sounds of your own. Use the notification-sound controls within the Glyph Interface and select the audio you want for notification events.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Settings > Glyph Interface.
- Open the notification sound controls associated with the Glyph Interface.
- Choose an original Nothing sound, or import a compatible sound from your phone.
- Preview the choice where available, then save it.
The official guidance describes notification sounds generally. It does not establish that every third-party app receives its own individually programmable Glyph mapping. Do not assume that installing a particular app automatically creates a unique light pattern; the documented control is the notification sound selection.
Test a notification after importing a sound
- Confirm the imported file is present and selectable in the sound picker.
- Send yourself a test notification from an account or service you can safely trigger.
- Keep the phone’s rear visible and check both the sound and the light response.
- If the event is silent, review that app’s notification settings and the phone’s sound mode before changing Glyph settings.
Testing the complete event matters because a notification can be suppressed by the app or the phone’s sound state even when the Glyph Interface is configured correctly.
Control when Glyph is active
Use Bedtime Schedule to disable Glyph temporarily
Bedtime Schedule lets you specify times and days when Glyph is temporarily disabled. It is the appropriate choice when you want a predictable quiet period, such as overnight, without remembering to switch the lights off manually each evening.

Use Flip to Glyph for silent, lights-only alerts
Flip to Glyph is a placement-based behavior. Put the phone face up on a flat surface to trigger silent, lights-only notifications and calls. This gives you visual awareness without an audible ringtone or notification sound.
- Place the phone screen-up on a flat, stable surface.
- Leave the rear Glyph area unobstructed so the lights can be seen from above or around the phone.
- Pick up or reposition the phone when you want normal handling again.
Flip to Glyph and Bedtime Schedule solve different problems. Bedtime Schedule disables Glyph at selected times and days; Flip to Glyph changes how incoming calls and notifications behave when you deliberately place the phone face up.
Which control should you use?
| Your goal | Use this control | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Turn all Glyph lighting on or off quickly | Quick Settings > Glyphs | Fast access to the general lights control |
| Configure the interface in detail | Settings > Glyph interface | Access to lights, Toys, sounds, and behavior options |
| See an alert-linked light pattern for calls | Ringtones > Default Ringtone | The selected ringtone’s associated Glyph pattern |
| Use an interactive rear animation | Glyph Interface > Glyph toys, then rear Glyph button | Selected Toy pattern or animation |
| Silence Glyph during recurring periods | Bedtime Schedule | Temporary disabling on chosen days and times |
| Keep alerts visual while the phone is face-up | Flip to Glyph | Silent, lights-only calls and notifications |
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The Glyphs tile is missing
Open Settings > Glyph interface and enable Glyph lights there. Quick Settings availability can depend on the current tile layout, while the Settings path is the documented primary route. If the option is absent entirely, check for a Nothing OS update and confirm that the device is a Phone (3).
Glyph Toys do not respond to the rear button
- Return to Settings > Glyph Interface > Glyph toys.
- Confirm the Glyph Toys toggle is on.
- Confirm that one or more individual Toys are selected.
- Press or long-press the rear pressure-sensitive Glyph button while watching the circular matrix.
If the button still produces no Toy, test with the rear surface uncovered and check whether a pending software update changed the menu or behavior.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A ringtone plays but the pattern is not visible
Check that Glyph lights are enabled, then place the phone with its rear facing you. Remove or open a case that covers the matrix. Also verify that the incoming call is using the ringtone you configured under Ringtones > Default Ringtone; a different sound choice may have a different associated pattern.
Imported notification audio is not used
Reopen the notification sound picker and confirm the imported file was actually selected and saved. Then send a test notification while checking the app’s own notification permissions and the phone’s sound mode. Glyph settings cannot force an app event that the app or system has already suppressed.

Lights appear at the wrong time
Inspect Bedtime Schedule for enabled days and times. If the phone is face-up on a flat surface, also check whether Flip to Glyph is responsible for the current silent, lights-only behavior. Disable one behavior temporarily to identify which rule is affecting the alert.
Safety and accessibility
Nothing Support cautions: “The Glyph Interface may not be safe for individuals with epilepsy or other light-sensitive conditions.” If flashing or bright patterns cause discomfort, avoid enabling the interface and consult appropriate medical advice. You can also leave Glyph lights disabled with the main toggle and rely on conventional audio or vibration alerts instead.
Because the lights are on the rear, do not use them as your only emergency notification method. Keep ordinary call, notification, and accessibility settings configured for the way you actually carry the phone.
Keep the setup reliable after Nothing OS updates
Nothing’s Phone (3) support instructions were checked on October 13, 2026. Menu labels and behavior can change with later Nothing OS releases. After a major update, verify these items:
- Glyph lights: still enabled under the Glyph interface or available through the Glyphs Quick Settings tile.
- Glyph Toys: master toggle and individual Toy selections retained.
- Sounds: ringtone and imported notification choices still selected.
- Schedules: Bedtime Schedule days and times still match your routine.
- Placement behavior: Flip to Glyph still produces the silent, lights-only result you expect.
If a setting has moved, use the Settings search for “Glyph,” then compare the resulting labels with the function you need rather than changing unrelated sound or display controls.
A practical first-time setup sequence
For a clean setup, work through the controls in this order:
- Enable Glyph lights from Settings > Glyph interface.
- Add the Glyphs Quick Settings tile if you want a fast on/off shortcut.
- Open Glyph toys, enable Glyph Toys, select your Toys, and test the rear button.
- Choose a ringtone under Ringtones > Default Ringtone and preview its associated pattern.
- Choose or import a notification sound and test a real notification.
- Set a Bedtime Schedule only if you need recurring automatic quiet periods.
- Enable or use Flip to Glyph when you want silent, lights-only alerts while the phone rests face-up.
This sequence establishes the basic light control before adding optional behaviors, making it easier to identify which setting is responsible for any unexpected result.
