Changing an Apex Pro’s actuation point and calibrating it for ghost inputs are different operations. On the Apex Pro TKL 2023, you can change sensitivity from the keyboard itself; calibration is a separate startup routine that makes you fully press every OmniPoint key. The correct steps depend on whether you own the TKL 2023, an OLED-equipped model, a legacy Apex Pro, or a Gen 3 board.
Identify your Apex Pro before changing anything
SteelSeries has used the Apex Pro name across several generations, but their controls and adjustment ranges are not interchangeable. Check the keyboard’s product label, packaging, SteelSeries GG device name, and physical controls before following a procedure.

- Apex Pro TKL 2023, wired or wireless: uses a SteelSeries Function-key shortcut with ten numbered levels. The documented shortcut does not require SteelSeries GG.
- OLED-equipped Apex Pro or Apex Pro TKL models covered by the OLED manual: use the OLED Menu Button and multimedia roller to choose ACTUATION and a level from 1 to 10.
- Legacy Apex Pro full-size and legacy TKL: use the Engine Actuation tab in SteelSeries GG. The legacy support article specifies GG 27.0 or later and gives a millimeter conversion for levels 1 through 10.
- Apex Pro Gen 3 TKL: uses GG for per-key adjustment across 61 adjustable keys, with a stated range of 0.1 to 4 mm. Do not substitute the TKL 2023 ten-level shortcut for this model.
Only keys fitted with OmniPoint switches can use adjustable actuation. On boards with a mixture of switch zones, a key outside the adjustable zone will not respond to an actuation change or calibration prompt intended for OmniPoint keys.

What an actuation point changes
The actuation point is the travel depth at which a key sends its normal key-down signal. A lower setting registers earlier in the press, which can feel faster and lighter. A higher setting requires more travel and can reduce accidental activation from a very shallow touch. This is a sensitivity choice, not a repair operation.

What calibration changes
The onboard calibration routine measures the usable travel of the OmniPoint keys. SteelSeries documents it for the Apex Pro TKL 2023 as a response to ghost inputs, such as keys appearing to activate without a deliberate press or behaving inconsistently after a setting change. It is not required every time you choose a different actuation level.
If your keyboard works normally and you simply want a lighter or deeper trigger, adjust actuation only. Start calibration when the TKL 2023 is producing ghost inputs or its sensing appears inconsistent.
Change actuation on the Apex Pro TKL 2023 without software
SteelSeries states that the TKL 2023 wired and wireless models can be adjusted directly from the keyboard, with no SteelSeries GG software required.
- Locate the SteelSeries Function key, usually marked with the SteelSeries logo.
- Hold the SteelSeries Function key and press O or I. Each press moves through the ten available actuation levels.
- Watch the number row. Keys 1 through 0 illuminate to indicate the selected level; 1 is the first level and 0 represents level 10.
- Release the Function key after selecting the level you want. Press a few keys in a text field or game to confirm the feel before changing other settings.
A lower level activates with less travel and generally suits rapid inputs or users who rest their fingers lightly on the keys. A higher level requires a deeper press and can help prevent a key from firing when you brush it. SteelSeries provides ten choices rather than a single universally correct value, so select based on your typing errors, game controls, and preference.

Use the OLED controls on supported Apex Pro models
The OLED procedure belongs to the models represented by SteelSeries’ Apex Pro/Apex Pro TKL OLED manual. It should not be presented as the control path for every Apex Pro generation.
- Press and hold the keyboard’s OLED Menu Button for four seconds.
- Turn the multimedia volume roller until ACTUATION is highlighted.
- Click the roller to open the actuation choices.
- Scroll to a level from 1 through 10, then click the roller to select it.
- Press an OmniPoint key while the menu is available to preview its sensitivity on the OLED display.
If the OLED menu does not show ACTUATION, stop and identify the model again rather than trying a shortcut from another generation. A missing menu may mean that your keyboard uses the TKL 2023 shortcut, the legacy GG Engine route, or Gen 3 controls.
Set a legacy Apex Pro through SteelSeries GG
For the legacy full-size Apex Pro and legacy Apex Pro TKL, SteelSeries’ support instructions place actuation in the Engine Actuation tab. The documented update path requires SteelSeries GG 27.0 or later.
- Install or update SteelSeries GG to version 27.0 or later.
- Connect the keyboard and open GG.
- Open the keyboard in the Engine section and select the Actuation tab.
- Enter the desired value or move the actuation slider.
- Apply or save the profile, then test several keys in a text editor and in the application where you noticed the problem.

| Legacy level | Actuation distance | Typical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.2 mm | Earliest trigger |
| 2 | 0.6 mm | Very shallow trigger |
| 3 | 1.0 mm | Shallow trigger |
| 4 | 1.4 mm | Moderately shallow |
| 5 | 1.8 mm | Legacy default |
| 6 | 2.2 mm | Moderately deep |
| 7 | 2.6 mm | Deep trigger |
| 8 | 3.0 mm | Very deep trigger |
| 9 | 3.4 mm | Near-bottom trigger |
| 10 | 3.8 mm | Deepest legacy setting |
These conversions are specifically for the legacy article. Do not use the 0.2–3.8 mm table as a universal conversion for the TKL 2023 or Gen 3.
Understand Gen 3 actuation controls
SteelSeries describes the Apex Pro Gen 3 TKL as having 61 keys whose actuation can be adjusted through GG. Its stated adjustment range is 0.1 to 4 mm. The product description also presents a 0.1–4.0 mm range.
Because Gen 3 uses a continuous millimeter range rather than the TKL 2023’s ten-level keyboard shortcut, open the Gen 3 device in GG and adjust the individual key or group there. The number of adjustable keys and the range apply to the Gen 3 TKL documentation; do not assume that every key on another Apex Pro size has the same capability.

Choose a practical actuation level
For fast game inputs
Begin with a lower setting on the keys that must respond quickly, then test repeated taps and directional changes. If you trigger neighboring commands while repositioning your fingers, increase the travel one step at a time. A lower actuation point is not automatically faster in practice if accidental inputs force you to slow down.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For general typing
Use a middle setting as a neutral starting point and watch for doubled letters or missed presses. If resting your fingers causes unintended characters, move deeper. If a key frequently fails to register unless you bottom it out, move shallower before investigating calibration.
For mixed profiles
Per-key adjustment is useful when your model and software support it. Keep frequently used movement or shortcut keys at the setting that matches your muscle memory, while leaving punctuation and seldom-used keys deeper if you tend to brush them. Save a separate profile for each game or application instead of changing the global setting repeatedly.
SteelSeries’ examples are demonstrations, not a prescription. Your keycaps, typing force, game controls, and tolerance for accidental activation determine the useful value.
Run the Apex Pro TKL 2023 onboard calibration for ghost inputs
The following sequence is documented specifically for the Apex Pro TKL 2023. SteelSeries asks you to install the latest SteelSeries GG first, even though the calibration itself runs from the keyboard’s startup state. Remove the magnetic wrist rest before beginning.

- Disconnect the keyboard. Unplug the keyboard. If you use the wireless model, unplug its dongle as well.
- Enter calibration mode while reconnecting. Hold SteelSeries key + I + O and plug the keyboard back in while keeping the combination pressed.
- Check the indicator color. OmniPoint keys should light yellow. Once they do, release the SteelSeries key, I, and O combination.
- Bottom out every OmniPoint key. While the keys are yellow, press every OmniPoint key fully at least once. A soft or partial press does not register for calibration, so deliberately reach the bottom of each key’s travel.
- Watch the completed keys. Each key that has been accepted changes to soft white. Continue until all OmniPoint keys have changed.
- Save the result. When the set is complete, SteelSeries key + I + O pulse red. Press SteelSeries key + I + O once more to save the new calibration and return to normal operation.
Unplugging and reconnecting during the routine exits without saving. If the result feels wrong, SteelSeries says the process can be restarted and that calibrating the OmniPoint keys will not harm the keyboard.

The keys never turn yellow
- Confirm that you are holding the SteelSeries key, I, and O before reconnecting, not after the keyboard has already started normally.
- Disconnect the keyboard and wireless dongle completely, wait a moment, and repeat the startup sequence.
- Verify that the board is actually the TKL 2023. The support article does not establish this shortcut for every Apex Pro generation.
A key stays yellow
- Press that OmniPoint key all the way down. A light touch is intentionally ignored.
- Check the keycap for an obstruction and remove the cap only if you can do so safely without pulling the switch.
- Repeat the press once the key returns to its normal path. The accepted state is shown by soft white illumination.
Ghost inputs continue after saving
- Restart the calibration and ensure that every OmniPoint key is fully bottomed out exactly once or more.
- Test the keyboard with unnecessary applications closed so that a macro or profile does not look like a hardware input.
- If the issue is limited to a non-OmniPoint zone, the documented OmniPoint calibration routine may not address it.
The board works, but the actuation feels wrong
Do not recalibrate solely because you dislike the sensitivity. Return to the appropriate actuation procedure for your model and choose a different level or millimeter value. Calibration addresses sensing consistency; it does not replace normal sensitivity selection.
Use Dual Actuation only when you need two actions per key
Dual Actuation is an optional feature separate from ordinary actuation adjustment and from calibration. It assigns one action to a shallow press and another to a deeper press on a supported OmniPoint key. SteelSeries’ example uses a main actuation at 1.0 mm and a second trigger at 3.4 mm, with W assigned a second action such as Shift + W through Dual Bindings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open the supported keyboard profile in SteelSeries GG.
- Enable Dual Actuation for the desired OmniPoint keys. The default can select all OmniPoint keys; switch to per-key selection when only certain keys need the feature.
- Set the ordinary and deeper actuation depths.
- Assign the second command through Dual Bindings.
- Test both press depths slowly, then test them during normal use.
Leave clear distance between the two triggers. SteelSeries warns that if the main and dual actuation points are too close, the keyboard may skip one of them. Dual Actuation is limited to the Standard Key Zone because only that zone has the necessary OmniPoint switches; the support article specifically excludes function keys, arrow keys, and numpad keys.
Which setup route applies to which keyboard?
| Keyboard or generation | Primary control | Adjustment choices | Calibration scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Pro TKL 2023 wired/wireless | SteelSeries key + O or I | Ten levels, shown by number keys 1–0 | Dedicated onboard ghost-input routine documented for this model |
| OLED-equipped Apex Pro/TKL covered by the OLED manual | OLED Menu Button + roller | Levels 1–10, with OLED preview | Follow the instructions for the exact hardware; do not assume the TKL 2023 shortcut |
| Legacy full-size or legacy TKL | GG Engine Actuation tab | Slider or entered value; legacy level map from 0.2 to 3.8 mm | Use the legacy model’s support procedure |
| Apex Pro Gen 3 TKL | SteelSeries GG | 61 adjustable keys; 0.1–4 mm stated range | Use Gen 3 documentation rather than the TKL 2023 sequence |
A reliable setup workflow
For a new installation or a keyboard that has just been reset, use this order:
- Read the model name in GG or on the product label and identify whether the board is wired or wireless.
- Confirm which keys have OmniPoint switches and therefore can accept adjustable actuation.
- Choose an initial actuation level using the model-specific method above.
- Test ordinary typing and the application that matters most to you. Record any accidental or missed inputs.
- Change only one group of keys at a time so you can tell which adjustment helped.
- Run the TKL 2023 calibration sequence only when ghost inputs or inconsistent sensing justify it.
- If you use Dual Actuation, configure it after ordinary actuation feels reliable and keep the two trigger depths well separated.
This order prevents a common mistake: using calibration to solve a preference problem, or changing a generation-specific setting with instructions meant for a different Apex Pro.
