Set the display to its native resolution and a refresh rate supported by both the monitor and graphics hardware, select the intended SDR or HDR mode, then use Windows 11 HDR Calibration if you want to tune HDR output. Follow the exact model’s guidance for OSD controls and panel-care features.
1. Identify the monitor and connect it correctly
Check the full model name on the monitor and find its manual and support page. Use those sources to confirm compatible ports and cables, native resolution, supported refresh rates, OSD options, firmware, and panel-care instructions. Port capabilities and cable requirements vary; there is no single connection recipe that applies to all QD-OLED monitors.

For example, Philips lists 3440 × 1440 as the native resolution of the 34M2C8600. That specification applies to that model, not to QD-OLED monitors generally. Philips 34M2C8600 manual
2. Set native resolution and a supported refresh rate
In your operating system’s display settings, choose the monitor’s native resolution and a refresh rate supported by both the display and the GPU over the connection you are using. If the desired rate does not appear, check the manual’s port and cable specifications and confirm the graphics hardware supports the selected mode. Do not assume that another monitor’s resolution or refresh-rate settings apply.

3. Choose the right OSD mode for the work
Use the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) to select the intended SDR or HDR mode. During calibration, disable picture enhancements or post-processing that may alter the test patterns. Microsoft warns that active monitor post-processing can cause its HDR Calibration app to behave unexpectedly. Leave factory color values unchanged unless the manual for your exact model recommends an adjustment or an instrumented calibration has identified a reason to change them. Mode names, brightness behavior, color controls, and HDR options differ among models and can change with firmware. The MSI MAG 273QP QD-OLED X24 is one specific example: MSI lists 99% DCI-P3 coverage and Delta E ≤ 2 as manufacturer claims for that monitor. These are not independent measurements or specifications for the entire QD-OLED category. MSI MAG 273QP QD-OLED X24 product page

4. Calibrate HDR in Windows 11, if you use HDR
Windows HDR Calibration is an optional app-based workflow for Windows 11, not a mandatory step for every monitor or for SDR use. It requires an HDR-capable display with HDR enabled. Microsoft lists support for AMD RX 400-series graphics or newer and Ryzen processors with Radeon Graphics; Intel 11th-generation integrated graphics or newer and DG1 discrete graphics or newer; NVIDIA GTX 10-series or newer; and a display driver supporting WDDM 2.7 or newer. The graphics requirement is particularly relevant to the app’s saturation control, so check current driver support on your computer. Microsoft Support: Windows HDR Calibration
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > HDR and turn HDR on for the QD-OLED monitor.
- Install or open Windows HDR Calibration, then run it full screen on the QD-OLED you intend to calibrate. This matters when more than one display is connected.
- Follow the app’s test patterns for darkest visible details, brightest visible details, and maximum display brightness. Adjust each control until the pattern is no longer visible, as directed by the app.
- If you adjust SDR/HDR saturation, do so cautiously: too much saturation can make colors look unnatural.
- Save and apply the profile when prompted.
Microsoft’s guidance is to “Use the app in the same lighting conditions that you normally use for your HDR display.” Run the calibration again after a meaningful change to the display setup, such as adding or replacing a display. If the generated profile causes a problem, Microsoft documents removing it through Control Panel > Color Management > All Profiles. Microsoft Support: Windows HDR Calibration

5. Decide whether HDR should stay on
There is no single HDR-on setting that suits every display and workflow. Windows HDR behavior uses HDR10/BT.2100 ST.2084 support, but HDR display quality varies. Windows HDR and SDR color management also interpret luminance differently, so a slider value that works for SDR desktop viewing is not automatically appropriate for HDR content, or vice versa. Choose the setting that fits the content and how you use the monitor rather than treating one configuration as universal. Microsoft Learn: High Dynamic Range
VESA DisplayHDR certification can help identify displays that meet a certification program’s criteria, but certification does not prescribe a universal OSD configuration. Check the exact monitor’s specifications and available HDR modes.

6. Leave panel-care features enabled
Use the care and maintenance settings recommended in the monitor’s own manual, and allow its routines to run. Do not disable protective features based on generic advice: names and behavior vary by manufacturer and model.

When Windows does not show the expected HDR label
For certain named MSI models, MSI says installing the official monitor INF driver can make the HDR certification label appear in Windows Advanced Display. This is a model-specific support tip, not a required calibration step for every QD-OLED monitor. Check whether your model is covered before applying it. MSI support FAQ
