Before changing anything, open Settings > About phone (or About device) and confirm that your handset is the OPPO F35 5G, model CPH2931. OPPO India lists ColorOS 16.0 for that model, but software labels, features and rollout timing can change. If your model number, country version or ColorOS release is different, follow the labels shown on your phone rather than assuming every F35 has the same menus.
The useful first changes are straightforward: connect safely, finish your accounts and SIM setup, install available system and Google Play updates, set a screen lock, review emergency alerts and permissions, then choose display, storage and notification behavior that suits you. Security and update checks are more important than cosmetic tweaks; refresh rate, wallpaper and camera choices are preferences, not mandatory repairs.

1. Verify the model, region and software before following a menu path
Open Settings and use the search field for About phone or About device. Record the model number, Android/ColorOS version and available storage. The India-market specification used for this guide identifies the F35 5G as CPH2931 and lists ColorOS 16.0. OPPO says specifications and software information are for reference and may vary by region, device batch and over-the-air rollout.

This check prevents two common mistakes: applying a setting path from a different OPPO model and assuming an India-market feature is present on an imported phone. If the model number is not CPH2931, or your phone shows a different ColorOS version, use the live Settings search and your regional OPPO support material. Do not force a setting merely because a guide uses the same product name.

What to write down
- Model number and region or country of purchase.
- ColorOS and Android versions.
- Whether the phone has two physical nano-SIM trays or a different carrier configuration.
- Available internal storage after the initial system setup.
2. Finish the safe basics: Wi-Fi, accounts and mobile service
Use trusted Wi-Fi for the first update
During setup, connect to a private Wi-Fi network you trust. Avoid completing a large system update over an unknown public hotspot. The India specification lists Wi-Fi 5 support; actual speed and reliability depend on your router, network congestion and internet service.
Sign in only to accounts you intend to keep
Add the Google account that will own your app purchases, backups and device-recovery functions. If this is a work or shared phone, decide whether a personal account should be added before accepting synchronization prompts. Review which services will sync contacts, calendars, photos and files rather than enabling every option by habit.
Confirm SIM and carrier service
The India-market F35 specification lists two nano-SIM slots. Insert the carrier SIMs, verify that the expected number appears in Settings, and place a test call and send a test message. Mobile bands, 5G availability, VoLTE behavior and roaming depend on the regional model and carrier deployment, so the presence of two slots does not guarantee identical service everywhere.

3. Install system and Google Play updates before settling in
Updates can correct setup bugs and bring security fixes, so check them before customizing the home screen or installing a large app library.
- Open Settings > About device.
- On ColorOS 12 and later, OPPO’s general support route is to select the software-update card at the top of the About device page.
- Read the update notes, connect the charger if the download is large, and install only when the phone has enough battery and uninterrupted Wi-Fi.
- Restart if the installer requests it, then return to the update page to confirm that no second package is waiting.
The exact card name and location can differ on the F35 build. If you do not see it, search Settings for software update, system update or update and open the result supplied by the phone. Do not infer a support lifetime or expect a particular version number from this guide; OPPO has not established a fixed update schedule here.
Check Google Play system components separately
System firmware and Google Play system components are separate update channels. Search Settings for Google Play system update and follow the page shown on your handset. OPPO recommends keeping these components current for the latest Cell Broadcast Service function. If the page reports that a restart is required, complete it before configuring emergency alerts.

4. Set a strong lock screen and add biometrics only if you want them
Choose the primary credential
Set a substantial PIN, password or pattern during setup. A longer PIN or password is generally easier to protect from casual observation than a short, predictable number. Store a recovery method somewhere safe; a biometric sensor cannot replace the primary credential after certain restarts or security checks.
Menu names can vary, so search Settings for screen lock, lock screen password or security. Finish the primary lock before enrolling any optional unlock method.
Enroll the supported biometric options
OPPO’s CPH2931 specification lists an under-screen fingerprint sensor and facial recognition. You can add either, both or neither. Enrollment quality depends on clean fingers, adequate light and how you normally hold the phone. Test the unlock method immediately after enrollment, then confirm that your primary PIN or password still works.
Decide what appears while locked
Review notification and message-preview behavior so another person cannot read sensitive content from the lock screen. ColorOS labels and the exact path for preview controls can differ by release; use Settings search for lock screen notifications or notification content. The important decision is whether to show full text, hide sensitive content or show no previews until the phone is unlocked.
5. Review wireless emergency alerts and privacy controls
Keep location-relevant emergency alerts available
The F35 supports Cell Broadcast Service. In Settings, search for Wireless emergency alerts and open the regional alert page. Check that the categories relevant to your location are enabled, that the alert language and sound behavior are understandable, and that any vibration or reminder options match your needs.

Use anti-fraud and permission features as controls, not guarantees
OPPO advertises anti-fraud and permission protections for the product, while noting that availability varies and protection is not absolute. Enable a control only if it appears on your installed software and you understand what it monitors. Treat unexpected calls, links and permission requests as risks even when a protection feature is active.
When an app requests access to the camera, microphone, location, contacts, files or notifications, grant only what its function requires. Revisit permissions after installing unfamiliar apps and remove access that is no longer needed. The reviewed specifications do not establish one universal ColorOS 16 menu path, so use the Settings search for permissions or privacy and follow the labels displayed on your phone.
6. Choose a display refresh rate and wallpaper deliberately
Refresh-rate choices
OPPO lists adaptive 60/90/120 Hz refresh rates for the F35. A higher rate can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother; an adaptive or lower setting may better suit someone prioritizing reduced power use. OPPO has not published a controlled F35 comparison that quantifies battery savings at each setting, so choose by feel and usage rather than by a promised number.

Set a wallpaper without losing the security setup
For ColorOS 16, OPPO Support lists Settings > Home screen, Lock screen & style > Wallpapers. Your phone may present a slightly different label. Change the home and lock-screen images independently if you want a low-distraction lock screen, but do not replace the lock credential with a visual pattern or rely on wallpaper to conceal private notifications.
Be careful with screen protectors
OPPO warns that dark or low-transmission protectors can obstruct the concealed light-sensor opening. If you install a protector, choose one that leaves the sensor area optically clear and test automatic brightness and proximity behavior afterward. A protector that causes unreliable sensor readings is not an upgrade, even if it looks more opaque.

7. Check storage, memory configuration and app access
Understand the listed configurations
OPPO India lists two memory/storage combinations for this model. The numbers are manufacturer specifications, and part of the internal storage is occupied by ColorOS and preinstalled software.

Open the storage page after updates finish and note how much space remains before restoring a large photo or video library. Keep free space available for app updates and temporary files rather than filling the drive completely.
Use a storage card only after checking compatibility
OPPO says the F35 supports a storage card, but the specification reviewed does not state a maximum capacity or card format. Before buying one, check the regional manual or the phone’s compatibility information. Do not treat a card’s advertised capacity as a guaranteed maximum for this model. Compare verified compatibility, capacity and price, and format the card in the phone if ColorOS offers that option.
Review permissions as apps request them
For every new app, pause at the permission prompt. A navigation app may need location, a video call may need camera and microphone, and a document scanner may need camera access; a simple utility may not need contacts or continuous location. Deny requests that do not match the app’s purpose, then revisit them in the privacy or permissions area if a feature stops working.

Camera
The specification lists a 50 MP front camera and camera modes including document scanning. Open the camera, take a test photo in the lighting you normally use, and check whether faces, text and focus meet your needs. There is no evidence that one camera mode or resolution must be changed on every new F35, so leave defaults alone until a real use case gives you a reason.

Headphones and the USB Type-C port
The F35 supports Type-C digital headphones. Analog Type-C headphones are not supported, so a passive analog headset may produce no sound. If headphones are important, verify that the accessory identifies itself as digital or uses an active converter before assuming the port is defective. This is an accessory compatibility point, not a setting you must change during setup.
9. Hardware facts that affect first-day decisions
The following figures come from OPPO’s current India specification page; they are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.

The absence of NFC and eSIM in the India specification is a model-and-region limitation, not a missing setting. An imported variant may have a different specification, so verify its model number rather than transferring this conclusion automatically.
10. A practical first-day order
If you want the shortest safe sequence, use this order:
- Verify the model, region and ColorOS version in About phone/About device.
- Connect to trusted Wi-Fi, insert the intended nano-SIMs and confirm cellular service.
- Sign in to the Google account that should own backups and app purchases.
- Install the available ColorOS update, then check Google Play system updates separately.
- Set a strong PIN, password or pattern; enroll fingerprint or face recognition only if wanted.
- Review lock-screen notification previews and app permissions.
- Open Wireless emergency alerts and confirm the categories relevant to your region.
- Choose adaptive, 60, 90 or 120 Hz refresh behavior based on your preference.
- Set wallpaper and other appearance choices after security and updates are complete.
- Check remaining storage, verify any storage-card compatibility, and test the camera and USB-C audio accessory you actually plan to use.
This order keeps irreversible or security-sensitive decisions ahead of cosmetic personalization while leaving performance preferences easy to change later. If a label differs, use Settings search and the option visible on your own CPH2931 build rather than forcing a path from another ColorOS version.
