Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe best LG TV setup starts with the room, the content you watch and the way your speakers are connected. Use an appropriate picture mode, then adjust the active input and HDR or Dolby Vision signal rather than copying one preset everywhere. For sound, run AI Acoustic Tuning when your model supports it, enable AI Sound Pro only within its compatibility limits, and set Sound Out to match the actual wired or wireless connection.
LG’s menu names and available features vary by model, country and webOS version. The paths below are practical starting points, but confirm the labels on your television.

Prepare the TV and viewing space first
Picture controls cannot compensate for every environmental problem. LG says the image you see is affected by the television’s capabilities, room lighting, screen reflectance, picture settings and the video content itself. A mode that looks comfortable in a dark room can appear flat or too dim in daylight, while a bright mode can look harsh at night.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the room before judging the image
- Reduce direct light falling on the screen. Reflections can make blacks look gray and can lead you to raise brightness unnecessarily.
- Check the image at the time and in the lighting conditions in which you normally watch. Daytime and evening may require different choices.
- Use a familiar film, television program and game when comparing settings. Streaming compression, the source device and the signal format can change the result independently of the TV controls.
- Allow the TV to display the actual source you care about before deciding that a setting is too dark, too colorful or too sharp.
Open the picture controls
On LG webOS 22, open Settings > All Settings > Picture Settings, then choose Mode. You can also reach commonly used controls through Quick Settings, which provides fast access to Picture Mode, Sound Mode, aspect ratio and advanced settings. The configurable items in Quick Settings differ by model and country.

Choose a picture mode that fits the room
There is no single best mode for every LG TV or every room. LG’s own examples are starting points, not universal calibration targets. The company’s table associates Vivid with natural light, Standard with artificial light and Cinema with a dark room.
| Viewing condition | LG example mode | Backlight/OLED Light | Contrast | Brightness | Sharpness | Color | Tint | Color Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural light | Vivid | 100 | 100 | 50 | 30 | 70 | 0 | C50 |
| Artificial light | Standard | 80 | 85 | 50 | 25 | 50 | 0 | C20 |
| Dark room | Cinema | 80 | 85 | 50 | 10 | 50 | 0 | 0 |
These values are LG’s illustrative starting settings. They are not a promise that every panel, size, software version or source will look correct with those numbers. Screen reflectance, the TV’s available controls and the content being played can all change the result.
Use Vivid only when you need extra brightness
Vivid is the example LG associates with natural light. It can make a daytime picture easier to see, but its stronger color and contrast presentation may be tiring in a dark room. If faces look unnaturally saturated or bright areas lose detail, move toward Standard or Cinema instead of continuing to raise individual controls.
Use Standard as a practical general-purpose starting point
Standard is LG’s example for artificial light. It is a useful baseline when the room is neither very bright nor completely dark. Watch several types of content before changing controls; a setting that helps a news broadcast may not suit a film or game.

Use Cinema for a dark-room presentation
Cinema is the example for a dark room and uses the lowest sharpness and color values in LG’s table. It is designed as a less forceful starting point for movie watching, not as a guarantee of reference accuracy. If the room has become brighter, a different mode may be more comfortable.
Adjust controls in a deliberate order
After choosing a mode, change one control at a time and watch the same scene for several seconds. Avoid trying to correct a reflection or poor source with extreme settings.
- Set the mode. In Picture Settings, select Mode and choose the closest match for the room and content.
- Set overall light output. Adjust Backlight or OLED Light when the whole image needs to be brighter or darker. The control name and range depend on the panel.
- Check contrast and brightness. Use contrast for the intensity of bright areas and brightness for the level of darker picture information. If shadow detail disappears, reduce the setting that is crushing those details rather than simply raising every control.
- Refine color. If the image looks oversaturated, reduce Color toward the mode’s less intense starting point. Keep Tint at its neutral value unless a clear color cast remains.
- Use sharpness sparingly. Excessive sharpness can add outlines or halos around text and objects. LG’s Cinema example uses Sharpness 10, compared with 25 for Standard and 30 for Vivid.
- Recheck a real program. Evaluate the result with the input and signal format you actually watch. Do not judge only from a settings screen or a single demonstration clip.
Understand why the picture changes between sources
LG explains that picture and sound modes can be optimized separately for input terminals and for HDR or Dolby Vision content. Consequently, a setting that looks right on a set-top box may not be used unchanged for a game console, built-in app or another HDMI port.
Check the active input
Switch to the HDMI port, broadcast input or built-in app you intend to watch, then open Picture Settings. If the TV offers separate settings for that input, make the adjustment while it is active. Keep a short note of the mode you prefer for each frequently used source so you can restore it after a reset.

Check the signal type
Standard-dynamic-range, HDR and Dolby Vision versions of the same program can trigger different picture modes or controls. Assess each format separately. A screen that appears dim in one title may be responding to the title’s mastering, the source device’s output or the TV’s mode for that signal rather than to a failing panel.
Use Filmmaker Mode and Quick Settings when appropriate
LG provides a way on supported sets to configure Filmmaker Mode to start automatically. The exact menu location depends on the model and software. This mode is intended for viewers who want a cinema-oriented presentation without repeatedly selecting it, but it may not be the most comfortable choice in a bright room or for everyday television.
Quick Settings is useful for temporary changes: select a different Picture Mode for daytime viewing, change Sound Mode for a program, or open aspect-ratio and advanced controls without navigating through every submenu. Because LG says the available Quick Settings items differ by model or country, treat the visible options on your TV as authoritative.

- Stream audio with Bluetooth - Connect your phone or tablet via Bluetooth to fill the room with your favorite music.
Run this quick check
- Pause the same scene and open Picture Settings.
- Temporarily choose a brighter, suitable mode and compare the image.
- Open the Energy Saving controls and turn the feature off or choose a less restrictive setting, if that option is available on your model.
- Return to the actual input and signal you normally watch, then reassess the scene.
- If the picture is still unexpectedly dim, use LG’s picture-reset option and configure the mode again.
LG’s Energy Saving menu path differs between televisions running 2026-and-newer software, 2022-and-newer software, 2021 software and 2020-and-older software. Follow the instructions for your TV’s webOS generation rather than assuming that a path shown for another year will exist on your set. Menu labels can also vary by country.
When a reset is appropriate
Reset picture settings when changes have accumulated and you can no longer identify which control caused the problem. A reset does not prove that the original settings were wrong; it gives you a known starting point. Afterward, set the active input and content type again because HDR, Dolby Vision and different HDMI sources may use separate picture configurations.
Improve built-in speaker sound before adding equipment
Start by selecting a suitable Sound Mode in Quick Settings or the Sound menu. Then use model-specific processing carefully: a wider or louder presentation is not automatically clearer dialogue.
Run AI Acoustic Tuning when your model supports it
LG support describes AI Acoustic Tuning this way: “AI Acoustic Tuning is a function that optimizes the TV sound according to the environment by measuring the space where the TV is installed using the microphone of the AI remote control.” On supported models, the TV measures the installation space and presents sound options for comparison.

Understand AI Sound Pro’s limits
LG says AI Sound Pro uses deep learning to optimize sound and provide immersive surround effects based on video genre. On specified webOS versions, its controls are under General > AI Service. LG states that the feature applies to the TV’s internal speakers or to devices connected through HDMI ARC/eARC that support Sound Share. It should not be assumed to work with every external speaker or every connection type.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Connect a soundbar or other external speaker
A soundbar can improve volume, dialogue presence or bass, but compatibility depends on the TV model, the available port and the speaker’s supported connection. LG’s setup guide covers webOS 25 through 6.0 and older versions; the exact wording on your set may differ.
Choose the connection before opening the menu
- HDMI ARC or eARC: Use the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC and a compatible cable and soundbar input. This is the relevant route for features that require ARC/eARC or Sound Share support.
- Optical or another wired output: Connect the cable to the matching TV output and the speaker input, then select the corresponding wired option in Sound Out.
- Wireless connection: Pair the speaker according to the TV and speaker instructions, then choose the wireless device in Sound Out if your model exposes that option.
Select Sound Out
- Open Settings > All Settings > Sound > Sound Out.
- Choose the option that corresponds to the speaker’s actual connection. Do not select HDMI ARC/eARC for a speaker connected wirelessly, or a wireless option for a cable connection.
- Play a program and raise the volume with the TV remote and, if necessary, the speaker’s own remote.
- If your model offers Sound Share or related processing, confirm that the connected speaker supports it before enabling AI Sound Pro features.
LG specifically advises checking whether the speaker is connected by wire or wirelessly and checking the speaker’s own volume when there is no sound. A correct TV selection cannot produce audio if the soundbar is muted, on the wrong input or not fully paired.
Soundbar troubleshooting by symptom
No audio after connecting a cable
- Confirm both ends of the cable are seated and that the soundbar is powered on.
- Verify that the TV’s Sound Out selection matches the port you used.
- Set the soundbar to the input associated with that cable.
- Check the soundbar’s independent volume and mute state.
- Try the TV’s internal speakers temporarily. If they work, the problem is in the connection, input selection or speaker configuration rather than the program itself.
Audio works but processing options disappear
Some AI sound functions apply only to internal speakers or to HDMI ARC/eARC devices that support Sound Share. A missing option can therefore indicate a compatibility limitation, not a menu error. Use the speaker’s own modes when the connected device does not meet those requirements.
Sound changes when you change the source
As with picture modes, LG allows sound modes to be optimized separately for input terminals and signal types. Check Sound Mode and Sound Out while the affected source is active instead of assuming that a setting from another HDMI port carries over.
A practical setup sequence for everyday use
- Identify the software and model. Note the TV model and webOS generation because menu paths and feature support vary.
- Control reflections. Adjust lamps, curtains or seating before judging contrast and brightness.
- Select a room-appropriate picture mode. Start with LG’s Vivid, Standard or Cinema example according to the lighting, then adjust conservatively.
- Configure each important source. Check a built-in app, each frequently used HDMI port and any HDR or Dolby Vision signal separately.
- Enable automatic Filmmaker Mode only if it suits your viewing. Keep manual control if you regularly switch between bright daytime viewing and dark-room films.
- Run AI Acoustic Tuning if available. Point the AI remote at the screen during the test and compare the resulting options.
- Set Sound Out to the physical connection. Match HDMI ARC/eARC, another wired output or wireless pairing to the device actually attached.
- Test dialogue, music and action. Use familiar content and check the speaker’s own volume before changing several sound settings.
- Document your preferred choices. Record the mode and Sound Out selection for each source so a reset or software change is easier to recover from.
What a good final setup looks like
The finished configuration should be comfortable in the room where you watch, consistent for the inputs you use and free of unexplained brightness or audio changes. LG’s example numbers can help you begin, but your final choices should be based on the active source, its SDR, HDR or Dolby Vision format, the room’s light and the capabilities of your particular TV.
For audio, the essential checks are equally concrete: AI Acoustic Tuning is optional and model-dependent; AI Sound Pro has stated internal-speaker and compatible HDMI ARC/eARC limitations; and Sound Out must match the connection. If those conditions are met, a careful mode choice and a short test with familiar content usually produce a more reliable improvement than extreme one-size-fits-all settings.
