The correct Xfinity Mobile eSIM procedure depends on what you are doing: moving an existing Xfinity line to another iPhone, converting a physical SIM on the same iPhone, or activating a new BYOD line. Xfinity documents Quick Transfer for iPhone 12 and later, although availability can vary by model. Use the matching path below rather than treating every activation as a phone-to-phone transfer.
Choose the correct eSIM setup path
Before opening Settings, identify your situation. The prompts shown by iOS and Xfinity are different for each case.

| Your situation | Use this procedure | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| You already have an Xfinity Mobile line and are replacing the iPhone | Transfer the line from the nearby iPhone during new-device setup, or from Settings after setup | Both iPhones nearby, Apple ID sign-in, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, current software and Xfinity credentials if requested |
| Your Xfinity line is on a physical SIM and will stay on the same iPhone | Settings > Cellular > Convert to eSIM | The active iPhone, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity and Xfinity account access if prompted |
| You are adding Xfinity Mobile to an iPhone that does not yet have the line | New-line BYOD activation through the iPhone notification or Cellular settings | An eligible iPhone, Xfinity account and, for a number transfer, information from the previous carrier |
| The eSIM profile was deleted accidentally | Download a replacement eSIM from your Xfinity account or the Xfinity app | Primary or Manager Xfinity ID access and the affected device |
Xfinity’s official quick-transfer guide describes iPhone-to-iPhone transfers; it is not a universal Android-to-iPhone migration method. If your model or situation does not offer Quick Transfer, use Xfinity’s regular activation flow instead.

- New iPhone, existing Xfinity number: use Transfer from Nearby iPhone or Transfer from another iPhone.
- Same iPhone, physical SIM: use Convert to eSIM; do not begin a new-line activation.
- New Xfinity service or a BYOD line: install the plan from the Settings notification or Set Up Cellular.
- Profile deleted: download a replacement from the Xfinity account or app instead of trying to recreate the line with a generic QR code.
These are separate provisioning routes. A phone-to-phone transfer does not replace the account steps for a new line, and converting a SIM does not move service to another device.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Check requirements before starting
Completing these checks first prevents the most common interruptions during provisioning.
- Confirm model eligibility: Xfinity lists Quick Transfer for iPhone 12 and later, with availability varying by model.
- Update both phones: Install available iOS updates before beginning an existing-line transfer.
- Keep the phones together: Place the old and new iPhones close to each other throughout the transfer.
- Use the same Apple ID: Both iPhones should be signed in to Apple ID.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Quick Transfer relies on both connections. A Wi-Fi connection is also useful for activation if cellular service is not yet available.
- Prepare account credentials: Have your Xfinity ID and password available in case iOS asks you to sign in.
- Disable Number Lock: Xfinity’s general Quick Transfer checklist calls for Number Lock to be turned off.
- Secure the source phone: The old iPhone should have a screen lock enabled.
For a BYOD line, have the Xfinity account ready and, if you are bringing a number from another carrier, have the previous carrier’s required account information available in the Xfinity app. For a deleted profile, use an account login with Primary or Manager permissions. These permissions are different from simply having the affected phone in hand.
You do not need to buy an additional accessory, repair tool or consumable to install an eSIM. An eSIM-capable iPhone is only a shopping consideration if you are replacing the phone; it is not something you must purchase to complete setup on a compatible device.

Transfer an existing Xfinity line while setting up a new iPhone
This is the preferred route when the replacement iPhone has not completed its initial setup.
- Turn on the new iPhone and follow the initial setup screens until it asks how to move your information.
- Connect the new iPhone to Wi-Fi.
- Choose Transfer from Nearby iPhone.
- When iOS presents the cellular option, choose Transfer Number.
- Keep both iPhones close together while the data and account prompts continue. Approve any verification request shown on the old iPhone.
- Finish the ordinary iPhone setup. When the phone later asks you to configure cellular service, continue to Settings > Cellular when prompted.
- Choose Transfer from another iPhone.
- Confirm that you want to transfer the number, then approve Transfer SIM on the old iPhone.
- If Xfinity requests authentication, enter the Xfinity ID and password.
- Leave the cellular-setup screen open while Xfinity prepares the eSIM. Finish only when the new iPhone reports that cellular setup is complete.
The transfer replaces the active service on the old iPhone with an eSIM on the new one. Do not remove the old phone from your account or reset it before the completion message appears.
If more than one eligible number is associated with the account, read the number-selection screen carefully before confirming. Transfer only the line intended for the replacement iPhone; the other lines remain separate account services.
Transfer an existing line after the new iPhone is already set up
If you skipped cellular transfer during initial setup, you can start it from Settings instead.

- This device is locked to AT&T only and not compatible with any other carrier.
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.

- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- On the new iPhone, open Settings > Cellular.
- Tap Set Up Cellular.
- Choose Transfer from Nearby iPhone.
- Follow the verification prompt on the old iPhone.
- Select the Xfinity number you want to move.
- Tap Transfer Number on the new iPhone.
- Approve the transfer on the old iPhone when it asks.
- Keep both phones nearby until iOS and Xfinity finish provisioning the eSIM.
If the transfer option is missing, check the model, software, Apple ID, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth requirements. Xfinity directs unsupported or unsuccessful Quick Transfer attempts to its regular activation instructions rather than a manual workaround invented in iOS.
Quick Transfer is intended for the same device type: iPhone to iPhone. It should not be treated as a documented Android-to-iPhone transfer method. A cross-platform move needs Xfinity’s regular activation process for the destination device.
Convert a physical Xfinity SIM to eSIM on the same iPhone
Use this route when the Xfinity line remains on the same iPhone and you only want to replace the removable SIM with an embedded SIM.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular.
- Choose Convert to eSIM.
- Read and confirm the on-screen instructions.
- Continue the cellular setup. Sign in to Xfinity if iOS requests it.
- Wait for the conversion to finish before removing anything.
When successful, iOS should show Converted to eSIM under the phone number. At that point the physical SIM can be removed. If the conversion option is not shown, treat the line as an unsupported or different activation case and use Xfinity’s regular activation support instead of deleting the physical SIM first.
This conversion does not move the number to a second phone. It changes the SIM form factor for the active line on that same iPhone, so the replacement-device transfer steps are the wrong route.
Activate a new Xfinity Mobile BYOD line
A new BYOD activation is not a Quick Transfer from an existing Xfinity line. It provisions a new line on an eligible iPhone.
- Complete the new-line enrollment in Xfinity and keep the account information available.
- On the iPhone, tap the Settings notification that offers to install the eSIM. If no notification appears, open Settings > Set Up Cellular.
- Follow the on-screen installation prompts.
- When iOS asks how the line should be used, set Xfinity as the default line for calls, texts and cellular data if it is your primary service.
- Enable the Xfinity line for iMessage when the messaging settings are offered.
- If you are moving a number from another carrier, complete the number transfer in the Xfinity app using the previous carrier’s required account information.
- After activation, place a test call, send an SMS and turn off Wi-Fi briefly to confirm cellular data.
If you are adding Xfinity as a secondary line, choose the default voice, messaging and data line deliberately. The choices can be changed later in Cellular settings, but selecting the wrong default can make calls or data appear to fail even when the eSIM itself is active.

Verify that the eSIM is working
Use these checks before wiping the old phone or closing the setup screens:
- Open Settings > Cellular and confirm that the Xfinity line is listed and turned on.
- Check that the intended number appears under the line label.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and confirm that a web page or app can use cellular data.
- Make an outgoing call and answer an incoming call.
- Send and receive both an SMS message and an iMessage.
- Reopen Cellular settings after a restart to ensure the line remains present.
A successful Wi-Fi setup screen alone does not prove that mobile service is ready. The call, message and cellular-data checks test the three services most likely to reveal an incomplete activation.
Troubleshoot an activation that will not finish
Start activation over Wi-Fi
If the eSIM installation stalls or iOS says it cannot activate, select the option to continue setup over Wi-Fi. Keep the phone connected while the carrier profile is downloaded.
Install a carrier-settings update
If Xfinity Mobile does not appear as the carrier, connect to Wi-Fi and open Settings > General > About. Wait for iOS to offer a carrier-settings update and accept it if one appears.
Restart and test again
Restart the iPhone after applying any carrier update, then return to Settings > Cellular and test the line. A restart can complete a profile change that was downloaded but not loaded.
Check the transfer conditions
- Both phones are close together.
- Both phones are signed in to Apple ID.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on both devices.
- The source iPhone has a screen lock.
- Number Lock is disabled.
- The operating systems are current.
- The Xfinity ID and password are available.
If the carrier still does not activate after these steps, contact Xfinity support. Do not repeatedly erase eSIM profiles while troubleshooting; an erased profile can remove network access and require a replacement download.
Replace an eSIM that was deleted
Deleting an Xfinity eSIM profile removes the phone’s network access until a replacement profile is downloaded. Xfinity provides two recovery routes.

Use the Xfinity account website
- Sign in with the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID.
- Open Devices.
- Select the affected iPhone.
- Choose the eSIM download or help option.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the replacement eSIM.
Use the Xfinity app
- Open the Xfinity app.
- Go to Services > Mobile lines and data usage.
- Select the affected line and device.
- Tap Download a new eSIM.
- Complete the prompts on the iPhone.
Xfinity also describes QR-code and manual-download options. Use only the QR code or details supplied for your own line; a generic code or another carrier’s activation code cannot provision an Xfinity number.

Because deletion can remove service immediately, keep Wi-Fi available for the replacement download. If the account does not show the device or the download control, use an authorized Primary or Manager account or contact Xfinity rather than creating another line.
Manual eSIM download on iPhone
Use manual entry only when Xfinity directs you to it or the automatic download is unavailable.
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data on some iOS screens).
- Tap Add Cellular Plan or Add eSIM.
- Choose Enter Details Manually.
- Enter the SM-DP+ address supplied by Xfinity on its support page, along with any additional details Xfinity provides for your line.
- Continue the iOS prompts and wait for the plan to activate.
The SM-DP+ address is carrier-specific. Do not substitute an address found in a forum, use a QR code from another account or guess missing activation values. A manual entry screen does not mean that any carrier’s details will work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCommon mistakes to avoid
- Choosing the wrong path: New-line activation, replacement-iPhone transfer and same-phone conversion are separate workflows.
- Resetting the old iPhone too soon: The source device may need to approve the transfer.
- Deleting the old eSIM before the new one works: This can immediately remove service.
- Ignoring model limits: Xfinity’s documented Quick Transfer threshold is iPhone 12 and later, and model-level availability can differ.
- Assuming Wi-Fi means cellular is ready: Test calls, texts and mobile data separately.
- Using another carrier’s QR code or SM-DP+ details: eSIM credentials are tied to the carrier and line.
- Leaving the wrong default line selected: On dual-line iPhones, calls, texts and data may use a different line than expected.
- Skipping account authorization: A standard line login may not expose replacement-download controls that require Primary or Manager access.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact Xfinity
Contact Xfinity after Wi-Fi activation, a carrier-settings check, a restart and a review of the transfer requirements fail to restore service. Have the affected phone, the Xfinity ID, the line’s phone number and a description of the exact screen or error ready. If the eSIM was deleted, say so immediately; support may direct you to the account or app replacement-download flow rather than starting a new line.
Xfinity’s support instructions and iPhone menu labels can change as account screens and iOS versions change. If a label differs slightly, use the closest current Cellular or Mobile Data option and follow the Xfinity-specific prompt shown for your line.
Quick comparison of the four routes
| Route | Device relationship | Where it starts | Key confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick Transfer during setup | Existing line to replacement iPhone | iPhone setup, then Cellular | Transfer Number and Transfer SIM |
| Quick Transfer after setup | Existing line to replacement iPhone | Settings > Cellular > Set Up Cellular | Approve on the old iPhone |
| Convert to eSIM | Existing physical SIM on the same iPhone | Settings > Cellular | Converted to eSIM |
| New BYOD activation or recovery | New line or deleted profile | Set Up Cellular, Xfinity account or app | Plan appears and passes call, text and data tests |
The comparison is about selecting the correct workflow, not choosing a faster or cheaper product. Xfinity’s documented setup materials do not establish a separate eSIM fee, accessory requirement or product discount for these procedures.
Frequently Asked Questions

Connect to Wi-Fi, check Settings > General > About for a carrier-settings update, accept it if offered, restart the iPhone and test again. Contact Xfinity if service remains unavailable.
Can I download a replacement eSIM without the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID?
Xfinity’s account recovery instructions specify the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID for the website route. If you do not have that access, use an authorized account holder or contact Xfinity support.
Recommended Free Tools
Is a new iPhone required to use Xfinity eSIM?
No. You can convert a physical Xfinity SIM on the same compatible iPhone. Buying a phone is only relevant if you are replacing a device; it is not required for eSIM installation.
What information is needed to bring my number from another carrier?
Complete the number transfer in the Xfinity app using the previous carrier’s required account information. The eSIM installation and number-transfer steps are related but separate.
What if I cannot find Convert to eSIM?
Do not remove the physical SIM first. The line or model may not support that route; use Xfinity’s regular activation instructions or contact support for the applicable procedure.
Can I use any eSIM QR code or SM-DP+ address?
No. Use only the QR code or manual details Xfinity supplies for your own line. Generic or other-carrier credentials cannot provision Xfinity service.
The Bottom Line
Match the procedure to your situation: transfer an existing line between nearby iPhones, convert a physical SIM on the same iPhone, activate a new BYOD line, or recover a deleted profile. Keep Wi-Fi available, meet the iPhone 12-or-later Quick Transfer requirements when applicable, and verify calls, texts and cellular data before erasing the old device.
