To use Auracast, you need a compatible broadcast transmitter, a compatible receiver such as headphones or hearing aids, and an assistant interface to find and select the broadcast. To create a broadcast, connect an audio source to an Auracast transmitter and enable its stream. The precise controls depend on the products: there is no universal phone menu or setup sequence.
How Auracast setup works
Auracast is Bluetooth broadcast audio. A transmitter advertises and sends one or more audio streams. An Auracast assistant scans for broadcasts and helps choose one; a receiver joins the selected stream. The assistant may be a phone, smartwatch, hearing-aid remote, product app, operating-system feature, or functionality built into the receiver.

This is different from ordinary one-to-one Bluetooth pairing. Pairing headphones to a phone does not by itself mean that either device can receive or create an Auracast broadcast.

- Look up the exact headphone, earbud, or hearing-aid model and firmware in its maker’s documentation. Confirm Auracast receiver support, not just a Bluetooth version number.
- Identify the assistant you will use and check whether it supports your receiver. Its controls may be in the operating system or a manufacturer’s app.
- If the assistant requires it, pair the assistant with the receiver before scanning. Bluetooth SIG’s Auracast assistant design guide describes pairing with each receiver an assistant manages.
- For a broadcast you do not control, confirm that it is active and that you are close enough to receive it.
Bluetooth SIG says Auracast uses relevant capabilities introduced in Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2 and the Public Broadcast Profile. That does not mean every device with Bluetooth 5.2 or newer supports Auracast; implementation and product support must be checked. See the Bluetooth SIG Auracast FAQ.

Join an Auracast broadcast with headphones or hearing aids
- Open the assistant. Use the control specified by your phone or receiver maker. It could be an operating-system control, a companion app, a hearing-aid remote, or a receiver control.
- Scan for broadcasts. The assistant looks for broadcast advertisements from active transmitters and presents available options.
- Select the intended broadcast. Check the displayed name or stream details, especially where several broadcasts are available.
- Follow the join prompt. The assistant provides the receiver with the information needed to join. If the broadcast is protected, you may need a broadcast code from the venue or operator; do not guess or share private access details.
Bluetooth SIG describes the assistant’s discovery and selection role in its Auracast how-it-works overview. The actual labels and taps vary by device, so follow the current instructions for your exact products.
Create a broadcast from a TV or other audio source
- Choose a transmitter for the source. Check that it accepts the source’s available audio output and supports the stream type you need. The Bluetooth SIG product directory identifies products by transmitter and receiver role; listings are informational and availability may change.
- Connect the audio source. Use the connection and configuration specified in the transmitter’s current instructions. The required input depends on the transmitter and source.
- Enable Auracast broadcast. Configure and start the broadcast using the transmitter’s controls or app. It will advertise broadcast information and send its audio stream.
- Test with a compatible receiver and assistant. Scan, select the broadcast, and verify that audio plays. Test at the locations where listeners will use it; the number of possible receivers does not establish a practical range or guarantee reception through walls.
For a home setup, confirm the source connection and test from the usual listening position. For a venue, consult a commercial transmitter supplier or installer about coverage, placement, and operating needs.

Venue broadcasts and accessibility
For public venues, Bluetooth SIG recommends making a Standard Quality Public Broadcast Audio stream available to broaden compatibility with supported hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, and headphones. A venue should check the deployment with an installer and keep appropriate alternative assistive-listening arrangements available; a broadcast does not guarantee that every visitor has a compatible receiver or can connect.
Choosing and checking equipment
The Bluetooth SIG directory includes examples of transmitters such as the Audeara Audio Broadcaster Auracast Transmitter BT-03 and Avantree Oasis Aura, alongside receiver products. These listings are examples of products carrying listed roles, not endorsements or proof that a particular transmitter, receiver, and assistant combination will work together. Verify current availability and exact model details with the manufacturer before buying or deploying.

When comparing products, check these points rather than assuming all Auracast devices behave alike:
- Role: transmitter, receiver, or both.
- Source input and physical connections for the audio equipment you plan to use.
- Exact Auracast or LE Audio implementation and firmware requirements.
- Whether a separate assistant, phone feature, or app is needed.
- Compatibility with your exact headphones or hearing aids and assistant device.
- Accessibility, discovery, and broadcast-selection controls.
If the broadcast does not appear
- Check that the transmitter is on and actively advertising a broadcast.
- Confirm that the receiver and assistant both support Auracast and are set up according to their makers’ instructions.
- If the assistant requires a receiver connection, pair them as directed by the manufacturer.
- Move closer to the transmitter and scan again; reception depends on the location and equipment.
- If access is protected, ask the operator for the correct broadcast code rather than guessing.
There is no single troubleshooting path or menu sequence that applies to every product. Use the current instructions for the specific transmitter, receiver, and assistant.
