Transfer options and settings vary by Android model, so use your phone’s on-screen prompts and verify important data before wiping or trading in your iPhone.
How do I transfer everything from my iPhone to Android?
“Everything” does not necessarily move in one transfer. Google’s setup process lets you choose data to copy, and the available categories differ between wired and wireless methods. Review Google’s current instructions for your device and transfer method before you begin: Switch to a new Android device and Copy apps and data from an iPhone or iPad to a new Android device.

Prepare both phones
- Charge both phones and connect them to Wi-Fi. Keep them connected while the transfer runs.
- Make sure you can unlock the iPhone, and check that the Android phone has enough available storage.
- If the iPhone is managed by work or school, its management settings may restrict what can be transferred.
Choose a transfer method

Google says you may be able to buy a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter if you do not have a compatible cable. Check both phones’ exact ports before choosing a cable or adapter; “USB-C” alone does not establish compatibility with your iPhone.

Copy data and check it before erasing the iPhone
- Turn on the Android phone and follow its setup prompts.
- When asked whether to copy apps and data, choose the iPhone option and select the offered wired or wireless method.
- Connect the phones as instructed, select the categories you want, and leave both devices connected until the transfer completes.
- On Android, check the contacts, messages, photos, calendar entries, notes, and messaging apps you care about. Do this before erasing or trading in the iPhone.
Some content needs separate attention. Google’s documented transfer process does not carry paid apps and in-app purchases, Safari bookmarks, or Health data. iCloud photos and videos have a separate transfer route. App availability is also different from app data: an app may be available in Google Play, while its sign-in, purchases, or saved information require separate steps. For paid subscriptions, Google advises contacting the app developer rather than assuming an iPhone purchase will become an Android purchase. WhatsApp history can be transferred using the QR code on the new Android phone; follow the current Google and WhatsApp prompts for that process.

Do I need to turn off iMessage?
Yes. Turn off iMessage on the iPhone before removing its SIM so that messages to your number do not continue routing to the old phone. Google’s instructions are here: Switch texting from iMessage to Google Messages.
If you still have the iPhone
- On the iPhone, open Settings and turn off iMessage. Menu wording can vary with iOS versions.
- Turn off FaceTime as well if you no longer use that number with it.
- Only then remove the SIM or move the number to the Android phone.
If you already moved the SIM or no longer have the iPhone
Use Apple’s phone-number deregistration process, linked from Google’s iMessage-switch guidance. For existing iPhone group conversations, you may need to start a new group chat after switching; an old iMessage group does not necessarily become an Android group automatically.

What to expect from RCS
Google says RCS messaging between Android and iPhone is available, but iPhone support depends on country or region and carrier. RCS features such as typing indicators, read receipts in one-to-one chats, and higher-resolution media require RCS to be available and enabled for the participants. Google states that RCS chats with iPhone users are not end-to-end encrypted. See Google’s RCS chats by Google FAQ for current details; cross-platform messaging should not be assumed to have every iMessage feature or security property.
How do I make Android feel more like an iPhone?
Start with the parts of daily use that are easiest to carry over: keep your most-used apps within easy reach, put less-used apps on a small number of Home screens, and choose the navigation style that feels natural. Android phones do not all use the same launcher or offer identical layout and lock-screen controls, so exact options depend on the model.

Arrange the Home screen
- Long-press an empty area of the Home screen to open Home settings or customization controls.
- Move your most-used apps into the bottom favorites row or dock, if your phone offers one.
- Place other frequently used apps on the first Home screen and keep additional screens for less-used apps.
- Add widgets from your phone’s launcher controls if you want at-a-glance information; widget selection and layout vary by device.

Choose gestures or navigation buttons
Android commonly offers gesture navigation and three-button navigation. With gestures, swipe up from the bottom to go Home and swipe up and hold to see open apps. With three-button navigation, Back, Home, and Overview remain visible at the bottom of the screen. Try each option and keep the one that feels easier to use.

To find the setting, open Settings and search for “Navigation” if the menu path is not obvious. Labels and available choices vary across Android versions and manufacturers. Google’s guide to getting around on an Android device explains the general options.
