Choose video and audio settings for your output resolution, test the broadcast in YouTube Studio, and keep the computer and network running: looping a file does not keep a failed FFmpeg process or dropped connection alive.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus a broadcast or stream created in YouTube Live Control Room.
- An FFmpeg build that supports the input format, encoders and RTMPS protocol you plan to use.
- A local recording and a visual source. The simplest option is one video file containing both the ambience audio and a still image or nature footage.
- Rights to use the recording in a live broadcast and its archive, if you intend to keep one.
- A reliable, continuously powered computer and internet connection. FFmpeg’s loop option repeats media, but does not supervise or restart FFmpeg.
1. Create a YouTube broadcast and protect its stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to use Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast and select the stream associated with it.
- Copy the current ingestion URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the endpoint YouTube provides for this broadcast; do not rely on server addresses copied from an unrelated tutorial.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it in screenshots, a public repository, or a command transcript. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingest. Use the actual RTMPS URL and key from Studio; YouTube’s RTMPS guidance specifies port 443 and a server hostname suitable for TLS authentication and SNI. See YouTube’s encoder settings and its RTMPS guidance for current platform details. Do not infer an endpoint or application path from the example command below.

2. Choose and check the sound and visual
Use a recording whose origin and licence you can verify
“Indian jungle sounds” describes the intended ambience, not proof of where a recording was made. If geographic or species provenance matters, verify it with the creator or rights holder rather than relying on a filename or a download page’s label. Prefer your own field recording or a licence that expressly covers live broadcast, the resulting archive or VOD, relevant territories, and commercial use if applicable.
YouTube’s Audio Library is an official source for YouTube-safe music and sound effects. YouTube says Audio Library downloads are copyright-safe for YouTube and are not claimed through Content ID. For Creative Commons tracks, follow the attribution instructions generated by the library. A third party’s “royalty-free” label alone does not establish all the permissions you need.

Pick one combined file or coordinate separate inputs
- One combined file: easiest to map because the recording already contains audio and video. The command below repeats the whole file.
- Separate audio and visual files: more flexible, but you must loop the intended inputs and explicitly map the audio and video streams. Ensure the visual remains available for the duration of the broadcast.
Check that the files play locally and that the audio is not silent, clipped, or interrupted at the loop boundary. If you use a still image as the visual, create a video input or encode it into a compatible video stream; an audio-only input alone does not provide the video stream expected by this example.
3. Install FFmpeg and run a conservative example
Check that your FFmpeg build can read the chosen media, encode H.264 and AAC, and send an RTMPS/FLV output. Available options vary by build. Replace the filename and URL below with your own. Insert the private key only in your local command environment, not in material you share.

The -stream_loop -1 input option means infinite looping; put it before the -i for the input to repeat. The example assumes 30 fps, so -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP, or two seconds. If your output frame rate differs, choose the GOP accordingly. The 2,500 kbps video bitrate is a constrained illustrative starting point, not YouTube’s recommended bitrate for 720p.

Loop each input that must repeat, and use explicit maps so FFmpeg sends the intended video and audio. For example, if the video file has no sound and the audio file contains the ambience, the command’s input and mapping structure is:

The 8,000 kbps video value is an example aligned with YouTube’s listed recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p/30 fps, not a universal setting. Choose the appropriate bitrate for your actual output resolution and frame rate, confirm your upload can sustain it, and test before going live. The video and audio durations and loop points may differ; check that the output continues cleanly rather than assuming separate loops will sound or appear seamless.
4. Choose YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate; up to 60 fps; and keyframes recommended every two seconds, never more than four seconds. For stereo audio, its recommendation is 44.1 kHz at 128 kbps. The following H.264 figures are platform recommendations, not independent quality or stability tests:

These figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings page, accessed in 2026. Select the row for your actual resolution and frame rate rather than copying a bitrate from an example. A higher resolution can demand more upload capacity and encoding work without improving an audio-focused stream enough to justify the cost. Keep bitrate within the connection’s sustainable upload capacity and verify stream health during a test. YouTube’s source table and testing advice are at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
5. Test the broadcast before making it public
- Start the scheduled or private test broadcast in YouTube Studio and run the FFmpeg command.
- Check the Studio preview for moving or otherwise valid video, and confirm the intended ambience is audible.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health notices and listen across a loop transition. Test with media representative of what you will actually stream; YouTube advises testing with similar audio and video movement.
- Confirm the broadcast visibility and archive behavior you intend before public launch. Test again after changing the media, output resolution, or encoding settings.
- During operation, monitor the FFmpeg process, machine, network and YouTube stream state. Add a separate supervisor or restart method if you need the process to recover after a failure; the input loop alone does not do that.
Rights, Content ID and monetization are separate questions
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the streamer to have the rights needed to use the content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can cause the picture to be replaced with a placeholder, the stream to be interrupted, or the stream to be terminated. A third-party licence may not prevent this automatically: YouTube says to ask the content owner to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. See Copyright issues with live streams.

Having permission to use a recording does not guarantee monetization eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policy says highly repetitive or interchangeable content may not qualify, and reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. A licensed loop alone is not assurance of YouTube Partner Program eligibility. Make your authorship and value evident—for example, use original recordings, accurately describe where and how they were made, and add meaningful original sound design or educational context. Do not imply a recording is from a particular Indian location or species unless you can substantiate it. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
Common problems and fixes
