To run an All of Fabric 4 (AOF4) server, lock every component to the pack’s 1.1.3 release: Minecraft Java Edition 1.17.1, Fabric, Java 17, and the matching AOF4 1.1.3 server pack. Test the complete client first, install a dedicated Fabric server, copy only server-compatible mods and configuration, accept the EULA, and launch with the Fabric server jar. The publisher’s guidance is at least 4 GB of memory for 5–10 players, but actual capacity depends on CPU speed, view distance, world generation and other settings.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What AOF4 needs before you begin
All of Fabric 4 is a TeamAOE Fabric modpack for Minecraft 1.17.1; the project also lists 1.17 as a supported game version. The latest listed pack file is release 1.1.3, with separate 1.1.3 server-pack files. Use those matching files rather than mixing releases. Fabric mods are tied to the Minecraft version, Fabric loader and Java Edition, so changing any one of them can produce missing-class, dependency or startup errors.

Download and test the client first
Build a working client instance before touching the server. This exposes missing dependencies and identifies which jars are client-only while you still have a launcher interface and an easy way to add or remove files.
- Install a launcher profile for Minecraft 1.17.1 with Fabric.
- Select the AOF4 1.1.3 client files and let the launcher place the pack’s mods and libraries in that profile.
- Start the game once, create or open a test world, and confirm that the title screen, menus and major pack systems load without errors.
- Close the game and keep this instance unchanged as your reference. Record any additional mods you deliberately added; they must also be checked for server support.
Do not use a newer Minecraft version, a different Fabric loader, or a later mod release simply because it is available in a launcher. AOF4 is an older pack whose listed release and last update date to 2021, so compatibility should be treated as version-locked unless a maintained project record explicitly states otherwise.

Install a dedicated Fabric server
Create a separate folder for the server rather than running it from the client profile. Give the folder a simple path with no personal files mixed in, and make regular backups of the world and configuration once the server is live.
Option A: Fabric executable server launcher
- Obtain the Fabric executable server launcher for Minecraft 1.17.1 and the loader version you selected.
- Place the launcher in the empty server folder.
- Run it from that folder. The executable launcher can download the matching Minecraft server and Fabric loader files it needs.
- After the first run, verify that the folder contains the launcher and the downloaded server files before adding the AOF4 pack.
This route is usually the least error-prone because the launcher creates the expected loader files for the selected game version.

- Open the Fabric installer and choose its Server tab.
- Select Minecraft 1.17.1 and the Fabric loader version you intend to use.
- Choose the dedicated server folder and run the installation.
- Confirm that the installation produced
fabric-server-launch.jar, a matchingserver.jarand alibrariesdirectory.
The manual layout expects those files to remain together. Do not move the launcher away from server.jar or the libraries directory unless you also update the launch configuration.
Install the AOF4 1.1.3 server pack
- Download the AOF4 1.1.3 server-pack archive that matches Minecraft 1.17.1.
- Stop the server if it is running, then extract the archive into the dedicated server folder. Merge folders when your operating system asks; do not nest the entire archive inside an extra subfolder.
- Check that the resulting folder still contains
fabric-server-launch.jar,server.jar,librariesandserver.propertiesat the level from which you will launch. - Locate the server pack’s
modsandconfigdirectories. If extraction created duplicates such asmods/modsorconfig/config, move the contents up one level.
The server pack is not interchangeable with the client download. The client profile may include rendering, menu or performance jars that have no place on a dedicated server.

Accept the EULA and perform the first launch
Fabric will generate additional files on its first successful start. On Windows, you can create an eula.txt file in the server folder and set its single agreement line to eula=true. Only do this after reading and accepting Mojang’s EULA.
Windows command
java -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
Open Command Prompt or PowerShell in the server folder and run the command. The nogui argument keeps the server in the console, which is easier to monitor and works well on a machine being used as a dedicated host.
Linux or macOS command
java -Xmx2G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
The 2 GB value is Fabric’s simple-method pattern, not a recommendation for AOF4. Replace it with a value appropriate for your machine and player count; a 4 GB allocation is a reasonable starting point when following the pack publisher’s minimum guidance, provided the operating system and other applications still have memory available.
On the first launch, the server may stop after creating files and reporting that the EULA has not been accepted. Set eula=true and run the same command again. Wait for a message indicating that the server is ready before attempting to connect.

Put the right mods on the server
Copy the AOF4 server-side jar files into the server’s mods directory. Most Fabric mods also require Fabric API, so include the Fabric API build intended for Minecraft 1.17.1 and verify every declared dependency against the same version.
| File or category | Server action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| AOF4 gameplay, world-generation and content mods | Install the server-compatible jars in mods. |
These provide blocks, items, recipes, dimensions, quests or other shared game logic. |
| Fabric API | Install the exact 1.17.1-compatible build when a mod requires it. | Many Fabric mods will not load without their API dependency. |
| Client-only rendering, menu or graphics mods | Leave them in the client profile and out of the server. | They can crash or prevent a dedicated server from starting. |
| OptiFine and OptiFabric | Do not copy them to the server. | The Fabric Windows tutorial specifically warns against putting these client components on a server. |
If you are unsure about a jar, inspect its project metadata for a server-side or client-and-server designation instead of guessing. A server that starts with one client-only jar can still fail later when a world or player joins, so check the complete list rather than stopping at the first successful boot.

Copy shared configuration and restart cleanly
Some pack settings must match between client and server. After the tested client has generated its configuration, compare its config files with the server-pack configuration and copy only the files that belong on both sides. Do not blindly overwrite server-generated files or copy client preferences such as graphics settings.
- Stop the server from its console with the normal stop command and wait for the save to complete.
- Back up the server’s existing
configdirectory. - Copy the relevant shared configuration files from the tested AOF4 instance into the server’s
configdirectory. - Start the server again and read the first error in the console or log before changing versions.
For repeatable operation, create a small startup script. A Windows start.bat can contain:
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
java -Xmx4G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
pause
On Linux or macOS, a start.sh can contain:
#!/bin/sh
exec java -Xmx4G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
The 4 GB examples allocate memory to Java; they do not reserve the entire machine. Adjust the value for your hardware, leave enough memory for the operating system, and change it only after observing actual server behavior. Make the shell script executable with your operating system’s normal file-permission tools.
Let players connect safely
Give players the same AOF4 1.1.3 client, Minecraft 1.17.1 profile, Fabric loader and Java-compatible setup you tested. A client with a different mod jar, dependency version or configuration can be rejected during login even when the server itself is healthy.
- Share the exact pack release and loader profile, not a folder assembled from assorted updates.
- Tell players to remove client mods that are not part of the tested profile if they cause mismatch errors.
- On a home-hosted machine, configure the operating system and network firewall to allow the server process according to your network’s policy. Managed hosts may provide this through their control panel.
- Use a separate administrative account or console process where practical, and stop the server cleanly before shutting down the host.
Memory and player capacity
The AOF4 project page recommends at least 4 GB to run smoothly with 5–10 players. TeamAOE published that figure in 2021 as a guideline, not as a repeatable benchmark. World-generation workload, CPU speed, simulation distance, view distance, entity counts, storage speed and other settings can move the practical limit in either direction.
Signs that the machine is undersized
- Long pauses while new terrain generates or players travel into unexplored areas.
- Consistently delayed block updates or entity movement even when memory is not completely full.
- Operating-system swapping, which indicates that the Java allocation leaves too little memory for the rest of the machine.
- Crashes that appear only when several players explore separate areas at once.
Increase resources gradually and change one variable at a time. More allocated memory cannot compensate for an incompatible mod, a slow CPU or a broken dependency.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you direct access to every jar, configuration file and world backup, but you are responsible for installation, security, uptime and troubleshooting. A managed service reduces the initial administration burden, yet its control panel, supported Java version, file access and Fabric-modpack workflow determine what you can actually change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Decision point | Self-hosted machine | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, Fabric, the server pack, firewall rules and scripts yourself. | Usually faster if the provider supports the exact AOF4 release and Fabric server jar. |
| Recurring cost | Uses your existing hardware and internet connection; electricity and maintenance remain your responsibility. | Requires a recurring rental charge; current pricing varies by provider and plan. |
| File and mod control | Full access to jars, configs, logs and backups. | Depends on the provider’s file manager, SFTP access and policy. |
| Backups and uptime | You must schedule backups, monitor the process and keep the host online. | The provider may offer automation, but confirm retention, restore access and uptime terms. |
| CPU and RAM | Bound by the hardware you own and the resources available to Java. | Bound by the selected plan and any provider limits or oversubscription. |
| Fabric support | You control the launcher and can follow the documented Fabric layout. | Ask specifically whether Minecraft 1.17.1, Fabric and the AOF4 1.1.3 server pack are supported before paying. |
The AOF4 project page historically described a hosting partnership and a first-month promotional code in 2021. Treat that information as historical: verify that any provider still supports this old pack, that the offer remains valid, and that the service permits the files and Java version AOF4 requires.
Troubleshoot the first failure in the log
The server says a class or mod cannot be found
- Check that Minecraft is 1.17.1 on both sides.
- Confirm that the Fabric loader and Java 17 are the versions actually used by the running process.
- Install Fabric API and every dependency named by the error for that exact game version.
- Remove any jar identified as client-only from the server’s
modsdirectory.
The server crashes immediately after adding the pack
- Compare the server’s mod list with the tested AOF4 1.1.3 client and the supplied server pack.
- Remove OptiFine, OptiFabric and other rendering or menu mods from the server.
- Check that the extracted folders are not nested one level too deep.
- Read the earliest “caused by” entry rather than reacting to the final shutdown message; the first incompatible jar usually identifies the fix.
An upgraded Fabric installation reports class-loading errors
When upgrading an existing Fabric server, remove the stale .fabric folder if the installer left one behind, then reinstall the intended Fabric files. Fabric warns that leftover files can cause class-loading failures. Back up the world and configuration before deleting anything.
A host insists on a file named server.jar
Some control panels recognize only a file called server.jar. Follow Fabric’s documented rename-and-properties workaround for that host, or ask the provider to support the Fabric launcher directly. Do not rename files blindly if the panel also requires a matching launch command; preserve the relationship between the launcher, server.jar and the libraries directory.
Quick Recap
Players receive a mismatch or missing-mod message
- Confirm that every player is using AOF4 1.1.3 rather than a different release.
- Compare the client and server jar names and versions.
- Check shared configuration files for changes that alter required content.
- Restart both the client and server after replacing a dependency; cached loader state can obscure the real result.
Final pre-launch checklist
- Minecraft Java Edition is 1.17.1 on the server and every client.
- Fabric is installed for that game version.
- The server runs with Java 17, verified by the actual command or service configuration.
- AOF4 1.1.3 client and matching 1.1.3 server pack are installed.
fabric-server-launch.jar,server.jar,librariesandserver.propertiesare in the expected server folder.- The EULA file contains
eula=trueafter acceptance. - Only server-compatible mods and required dependencies are in
mods. - Shared configuration has been copied deliberately and the world has been backed up.
- The startup script allocates an amount of memory the machine can sustain.
- The first clean restart reaches the ready state without an error.
