To host All of Fabric 3, install Java 8, download the pack’s dedicated server archive (not the client ZIP), launch Fabric once to generate its files, accept the EULA, assign about 8 GB of memory for a small group, and forward TCP port 25565. Every player must use the identical All of Fabric 3 release and Minecraft 1.16.5.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What you need before installing All of Fabric 3
All of Fabric 3 is a Fabric-based modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. The server and every connecting client must use that Minecraft version, the same modpack release, and compatible Java software. You also need a legally purchased Minecraft: Java Edition account for each player; the server does not provide game licenses.

- A host computer: a desktop, home server, or virtual machine that can remain online while people play. Leave memory and CPU capacity for the operating system and other services.
- Java 8: Fabric’s official headless-server documentation specifies Java 8 for Minecraft 1.16.5 and older.
- The dedicated server pack: download it from the All of Fabric 3 project page on CurseForge. Do not use the client archive.
- Network access: players outside your home network normally need TCP port 25565 forwarded to the server and permitted by the host firewall.
- Storage and backups: modded worlds, logs and generated files grow over time. Keep the server in its own directory and back up the world before changing the pack or its mods.
The All of Fabric 3 page identifies Java 8, TCP 25565 and 8 GB as the recommended memory for a small group. It lists release 2.8.8 as the newest release on that page; select one specific release and use it consistently rather than mixing files from different versions.
How much RAM does an All of Fabric 3 server need?
Memory requirements depend on the number of players, view distance, automation and the other applications running on the machine. The published figures below are vendor guidance from FadeHost’s All of Fabric 3 information page, accessed in 2026, rather than an independent performance benchmark.

| Planned use | Published RAM guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| One player | 6 GB | A starting point for a solo world; leave additional memory for the operating system. |
| Two to four friends | 8 GB | The pack page’s recommendation for a small group. |
| Five to ten players | 10 GB | More headroom for simultaneous chunk loading and mod systems. |
| Public server | 12 GB | A planning figure, not a guarantee of capacity for any particular player count. |
Set the Java maximum heap with the -Xmx option. For a small group, the pack guidance translates to approximately -Xmx8G. Do not give Java every gigabyte in the machine: the operating system, Java’s non-heap memory, file cache and monitoring tools also need room. If the process is killed by the operating system, the machine swaps heavily, or the log reports out-of-memory errors, reduce other workloads or move to a host with more RAM instead of blindly increasing the heap.
First boot can take several minutes while Fabric and the mods register content and generate the initial world. A long first launch is not automatically a failure; inspect the console for a continuing error, a crash, or a server-ready message before stopping it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPrepare a clean server directory
Install Java 8 on Debian or Ubuntu
Fabric’s headless installation guide lists OpenJDK 8 and curl for Debian-based systems. Open a terminal, refresh package metadata if your system requires it, and install the packages:
sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre-headless
sudo apt install curl
Confirm that the command resolves to Java 8 before installing the pack:
java -version
The output should identify a Java 8 runtime. If another Java release is selected, correct the system’s Java alternatives or install Java 8 explicitly before continuing. Minecraft 1.16.5 is not supported by the newer Java requirement used by many current Minecraft versions.
Create an isolated folder
Use a directory that contains only this server’s files. Keeping separate folders for different modpacks prevents one pack’s mods, configs or world from being copied into another by mistake. Place the downloaded server archive in that directory and extract it there. On a production machine, use a dedicated operating-system account with only the permissions needed to run the server.
Download the correct All of Fabric 3 archive
Choose the dedicated server pack
- Open the All of Fabric 3 project page on CurseForge.
- Select the release you intend to run; the project page lists 2.8.8 as its newest release in the cited pack information.
- Download that release’s separate server pack, not the client download offered to launchers.
- Move the archive into the clean server directory and extract it using your operating system’s archive tool.
The server pack is assembled for dedicated-server use and includes the mod jars, configuration files and a start script for the release. The client ZIP downloaded by a launcher is only a manifest and does not run a dedicated server. Starting with that client archive commonly produces missing-file errors, client-only code on a headless server, or no usable server launch at all.

Do not combine a server pack from one release with a client installation from another. Record the exact release number in your setup notes so that every player can install the same files.
Install or verify the Fabric server launcher
Some All of Fabric 3 server archives include a ready-to-run launcher and start script. If the extracted folder already contains the expected Fabric files, use the supplied script after checking its Java command and memory setting. If it does not, install Fabric in that directory.
Executable launcher method
Fabric’s official guide describes the Fabric Server Launcher as an executable JAR. It downloads missing Fabric Loader and Minecraft files, then starts the game server. Put the launcher JAR in the server directory and use the pack’s selected Minecraft and loader versions. This method is convenient when the required libraries are not already present, but it still needs a working Java 8 runtime and network access during the initial download.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Manual installer method
Run the Fabric installer JAR and choose its server installation option for Minecraft 1.16.5, with the server directory as the destination. The manual method creates fabric-server-launch.jar and expects a matching server.jar. Keep both files in the same directory. If the installer reports that Minecraft files are missing, allow it to download them or place the correct server JAR there before launching.
Do not rename loader files casually or copy a launcher from another modpack. A loader mismatch can prevent the pack from reaching the world-loading stage even when Java itself is configured correctly.
Start the server and accept the EULA
Launch once to generate configuration
From the server directory, run the start script supplied with the server pack, or use Fabric’s generic launcher form with the filename present in your folder:
java -Xmx8G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
If the archive uses a different launcher filename, substitute that exact filename. The -Xmx8G value is appropriate for the pack’s small-group recommendation only when the machine has enough total memory. The nogui option runs a console-only server and is generally preferable on a headless machine.

The first run normally creates eula.txt, server.properties, log files and world directories, then stops because the EULA has not been accepted. If it continues for several minutes, watch the log rather than repeatedly killing and restarting the process.
Accept the Minecraft EULA
- Stop the process if it has not exited by itself.
- Open
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=trueafter reading and accepting Minecraft’s EULA. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Run the same start script or Java command again.
On a successful second launch, the console eventually reports that the server is ready to accept connections. Keep the console open while testing. To stop safely, use the server console’s stop command so the world and region files are flushed before shutdown.
Set memory, startup behavior and server properties
Adjust the supplied start script
Open the pack’s start script and locate its Java memory options. Replace a small default such as -Xmx2G with the amount appropriate for your machine, for example -Xmx8G for two to four friends. Keep the launcher JAR filename and nogui argument intact unless the pack’s own instructions specify otherwise.
Set a minimum heap only when you understand the machine’s limits. A large -Xms reserves memory immediately; a modest minimum with the recommended maximum can leave more room for the operating system during startup.

All of Fabric 3’s published server guidance identifies TCP port 25565. The default value is normally already present in server.properties; if you changed it, forward the same port externally and tell players to use that port. A router rule pointing to 25565 is useless if the server is listening on another port.
Make the server reachable from outside your home network
- Give the server computer a stable local-network address, either with a DHCP reservation or a static configuration.
- In the router’s port-forwarding section, create a rule for TCP 25565 to that local address.
- Allow the same TCP port in the computer’s firewall and any cloud-provider security group.
- Start the server and wait until the world has finished loading.
- Test from a different network, such as a mobile connection. Testing from inside the same LAN can fail on routers that do not support hairpin connections.
Share the public address only after the server is running. Never publish administrative credentials, remote-console passwords or private network details alongside the game address. If your internet service uses carrier-grade NAT, incoming forwarding may not work; a managed host or a network service that provides an externally reachable address may then be easier than changing local settings.
Install the matching client for each player
Every player should install Minecraft 1.16.5, Fabric and the exact same All of Fabric 3 release used by the server. A client on a newer pack build can be refused during login or connect without content that the server expects. The safest workflow is to write down the release number, distribute that number to the group, and have everyone update together during a maintenance window.

Troubleshoot the most common startup failures
Java version errors
Check java -version first. All of Fabric 3 on Minecraft 1.16.5 requires Java 8 according to the Fabric guidance. If the command reports a different major version, install or select an OpenJDK 8 runtime and run the server again. A script may also point to a different Java executable than the one in your shell, so inspect the script’s path when the terminal and server disagree.
The server will not start from the downloaded ZIP
Verify that you downloaded the dedicated server pack. The client ZIP is only a manifest and is not a server distribution. Download the server pack for the chosen release, extract it into a new empty directory, and start from that directory rather than trying to repair a client installation.
Client-only mod or environment error
Read the first meaningful error in logs/latest.log and identify the mod named there. Remove client-only mods from the dedicated server, then restart. Do not delete random libraries: Fabric mods can depend on one another, and removing a dependency can create a second error that hides the original problem.
Fabric loader or Minecraft mismatch
Confirm that the loader and Minecraft versions selected by the installer match the All of Fabric 3 release. Reinstall the loader in the server directory if necessary, keeping the server pack’s configuration and mods together. A launcher copied from another pack is not a reliable substitute.
Out-of-memory or severe lag
Check the Java heap setting, available physical memory and the number of players loading new terrain at once. Move from the one-player guidance toward 8 GB for a small group, 10 GB for five to ten players, or 12 GB for a public server only when the machine can supply it. These figures are planning guidance, not guarantees. Also check whether another process is consuming RAM and whether the operating system is swapping.
Players cannot connect
Confirm that the server has reached its ready message, that the client is using the same pack release, and that TCP 25565 is forwarded to the correct local address. Then check the host firewall and any cloud security rule. If local players can connect but outside players cannot, the problem is usually forwarding, firewall policy or carrier-grade NAT rather than a mod mismatch.
First boot appears frozen
Mod registration and world generation can take several minutes on the first launch. Watch CPU, disk activity and the log. If the same stack trace repeats or the process exits, copy the earliest error, correct that cause, and start again; repeated restarts without reading the first failure can leave partially generated files and make diagnosis harder.

Backups, updates and routine maintenance
Back up before changes
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and retain the matching configuration and mod list. Keep at least one backup away from the machine running the server. Test that an archived backup can be opened; a backup that was never verified is only a hope of recovery.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Update as a coordinated change
When moving to another All of Fabric 3 release, back up first, download the new dedicated server pack, read its release notes, and stage it in a separate directory. Test the new copy with a backup world before switching players. Update every client to the same release and keep the old server directory until the new world has been confirmed.
Monitor logs and disk space
Review logs/latest.log after crashes, watch for repeated warnings and ensure the disk does not fill with logs, backups or generated chunks. A full disk can look like a Java or world-corruption problem because the server can no longer write region files.
Self-hosting versus managed Minecraft hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct access to the files, mods, configs and world, but you are responsible for Java, Fabric, updates, backups, firewall rules, port forwarding, uptime and hardware. A managed Minecraft provider that supports the exact All of Fabric 3 release can automate installation of the server pack, Fabric loader and Java. The cited hosting information describes that convenience and states that the provider is not affiliated with the pack authors or Mojang.
| Consideration | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Files and mods | Full control over directories, scripts and custom changes. | Usually controlled through a panel or file manager; verify that custom mods are allowed. |
| Initial setup | You install Java, the pack and Fabric, then configure the machine. | The provider may install the pack, loader and Java automatically. |
| Maintenance | You apply Java, loader, modpack and operating-system updates. | The provider handles platform maintenance, but you still choose compatible pack updates. |
| RAM scaling | Limited by your physical or virtual machine; upgrades require your own hardware or plan. | Often selectable through a hosting plan; actual limits and upgrade costs vary by provider. |
| Networking | You configure router forwarding, firewall rules and possibly NAT workarounds. | The provider normally supplies a reachable address and port. |
| Backups | You create, store and test them yourself. | Backup tools may be offered, but retention and restore terms must be checked. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting bill, but electricity, hardware and internet costs remain. | A recurring fee applies; the available price and resources depend on the provider and plan. |
Choose self-hosting when you want file-level control and are comfortable maintaining Java, networking and backups. Choose managed hosting when avoiding port forwarding and machine maintenance is worth a recurring charge. In either case, confirm support for Minecraft 1.16.5, Fabric and the exact All of Fabric 3 release before moving a world.
A concise launch checklist
- Java 8 is installed and
java -versionconfirms it. - The server pack, not the client ZIP, is extracted into a clean directory.
- Fabric’s launcher and the matching
server.jarare present when the pack requires them. - The first launch created
eula.txt; it now containseula=true. - The start command uses a heap suitable for the machine, such as
-Xmx8Gfor a small group. - The server reaches its ready message without a repeating error.
- TCP 25565 is forwarded to the correct computer and allowed through the firewall.
- Every player has the identical Minecraft, Fabric and All of Fabric 3 versions.
- A tested backup exists before players begin building.
Once those checks pass, connect locally first, then test the public address from outside the home network. Keep the original pack archive, startup script and release number with your backup records so the server can be rebuilt without guessing which files were used.
