Amazon Bee setup starts with an Amazon account, the Bee app, and a supported Bee device. Amazon’s current wearable is Bee Frontier; press its physical microphone button once to begin capture and again to stop. A visible LED shows when processing is active. You can also set an automatic shutoff after a period with no detected sound, such as five or 15 minutes.
Bee says raw audio is processed into insights in real time and deleted after processing. Transcripts, summaries, and extracted to-dos remain available to you until you delete them or choose to share them. The optional Alexa+ connection creates a separate, deliberate way to access Bee insights, while Alexa’s own recording-history and hands-free controls remain separate.

What Amazon Bee is, and which hardware you are setting up
“Amazon Bee” refers to Amazon’s personal AI companion and its recording hardware. As of 2026, the established wearable is Bee Frontier. Amazon has also announced Bee Eclipse, a magnetic attachment for a phone, but describes its release timing as coming soon.
| Device | Form factor | Battery claim | Microphone control | Price and availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bee Frontier | Wrist wearable | Up to seven days (manufacturer specification, Amazon, 2026) | Physical microphone button; press once to start capture and again to stop | $74.99 from Amazon in 2026 |
| Bee Eclipse | Magnetic phone attachment | More than 21 days (manufacturer specification, Amazon, 2026) | Amazon has announced the product, but the supplied materials do not establish a different button or LED workflow | Announced from $99.99; release timing described as coming soon |
The rest of this guide uses Bee Frontier for the physical instructions because it is the current wearable described in Amazon’s materials. If you use Bee Eclipse when it becomes available, confirm its product-specific instructions rather than assuming every control is identical.

What you need before setup
- An Amazon account. New Bee customers can sign in with their existing Amazon credentials.
- The Bee hardware and enough battery charge to complete an initial connection and test capture.
- The Bee mobile app for phone-based use. Amazon also provides a desktop app for viewing conversation summaries and using templates.
- A private place for your first recording test, so you can verify the microphone button and LED before wearing Bee in a conversation.
Amazon’s published material does not provide a complete, screen-by-screen Bluetooth pairing sequence. App labels can also change by operating-system version. The safe approach is to follow the setup prompts shown in your current Bee app instead of relying on a copied menu path.
Set up Amazon Bee step by step
1. Sign in with your Amazon account
Open the Bee app and choose the sign-in option for an Amazon account. Use the account that should own your Bee insights. Signing in with a different Amazon account later can make the device appear to be associated with the wrong profile, so decide which account you will use before completing setup.
2. Install and open the Bee app
Use the Bee mobile app for device setup and day-to-day capture management. The desktop app is useful for reading conversation summaries and working with templates on a larger screen. Sign in to the same Amazon account in both apps if you want a consistent view of your Bee results.
3. Follow the app’s connection prompts
Place Bee Frontier close to your phone and follow the connection or add-device instructions presented by the current app. Do not assume that a particular button name, Bluetooth screen, or permission sequence is universal: Amazon has not published a full screen-by-screen pairing flow in the available documentation.
If the app asks for access needed to connect or operate Bee, read each request and allow only what you understand and need. If the connection does not complete, keep Bee near the phone, close and reopen the Bee app, and repeat the in-app setup flow. The exact recovery labels depend on the app version.
4. Confirm that Bee is assigned to the intended account
After the app reports that setup is complete, check that you are signed in to the Amazon account you selected. This matters because summaries, transcripts, and extracted to-dos are intended to be accessible only to the user associated with the account unless that user shares them.

5. Make a short test capture
- Put Bee Frontier in its normal wearing position and make sure the microphone area is not covered by clothing or an accessory.
- Press the physical microphone button once.
- Look for the visible LED that indicates processing is on.
- Speak a short test sentence, then press the microphone button again to stop capture.
- Open the Bee app and check for the resulting insight, transcript, or summary.
This test confirms the three controls you will rely on most: the physical start/stop button, the processing indicator, and the app’s results view. It also gives you a chance to explain the device to anyone nearby before recording a real conversation.
Control exactly when Bee can hear
Use the physical microphone button
Bee Frontier’s primary listening control is on the hardware itself. Press the microphone button once to start capture. Press it a second time to stop. Treat the second press as the end of the recording session; do not rely on the app being open or on a phone-screen status to stop capture.
Avoid placing Bee where the button can be pressed accidentally by a sleeve, bag strap, or another object. If you are moving into a sensitive conversation, press the button to stop before the conversation begins and verify the LED is no longer showing processing.
Use the visible LED as your immediate signal
The LED provides a physical indication that processing is on. Check it whenever you start or stop a session, especially in a noisy room where you may not hear or feel anything from the device. If you cannot see the indicator because Bee is under clothing, move it to a position where the signal is visible before recording.
Set an automatic shutoff for silence
Bee Frontier can be configured to turn off automatically after a selected period with no detected sound. Amazon gives five and 15 minutes as examples of available periods. Choose the shorter period when you want a recording session to end quickly if you walk away; choose the longer period when pauses are normal and you do not want a quiet moment to stop the session.

How to tell whether Bee is recording or processing
- Before capture: press the physical microphone button to begin.
- During processing: the visible LED indicates that processing is on.
- After capture: press the button again to stop, then check the Bee app for the resulting transcript, summary, or extracted to-dos.
- After an idle timeout: if you configured automatic shutoff, Bee can turn off after the selected no-sound period, such as five or 15 minutes.
If you cannot confirm the LED state, stop the session with the button and perform another short test in a visible position. Do not assume that silence, a locked phone, or a closed app means Bee has stopped.
What Bee stores, and what happens to raw audio
Raw audio processing
Amazon’s published privacy statement says: “Audio is processed into insights in real time and deleted after processing.” In practical terms, the retained material you work with is the output—such as a transcript, summary, or extracted to-do—not a promise that an indefinitely stored raw-audio file will be available for replay.
That statement describes Amazon’s processing policy; it does not mean a conversation is never transmitted or processed. Bee must process captured sound to create its insights. Use the physical button and LED to control when that process is active.

Retained insights and encryption
Bee summaries, transcripts, and extracted to-dos are intended to be accessible only to you unless you choose to share them. Amazon also says retained transcripts and insights are encrypted with keys controlled by the user’s device. Its privacy materials state: “Only you hold the keys to your information. Amazon has no master key that can unlock your content.”
These statements describe Bee’s published handling of stored results. They do not make a shared transcript private again after you send it to another person or service, so review sharing choices before exporting or connecting integrations.
Review, share, and delete Bee results
Find summaries, transcripts, and to-dos
Use the Bee mobile or desktop app to review conversation summaries and templates. The exact navigation can vary by app version, but the results are the material Bee creates from a completed capture. Read the transcript or summary before sharing it, particularly when a conversation includes other people’s names, contact details, or confidential business information.

Share only when you intend to
Bee results are designed to remain available only to you unless you choose to share them. Sharing is therefore an explicit change in who can access the content. Check the recipient and the specific summary or transcript before confirming a share action; a shared result can contain more context than the short excerpt you meant to send.

Amazon says users can delete Bee transcripts and summaries. Use the deletion control provided in the Bee app for the specific result you no longer want to retain. If you want a clean record, review both transcript and summary views rather than assuming that deleting one automatically removes every related result.
Deletion of a retained Bee result is separate from stopping a live capture. Stop the microphone session first with the hardware button, then manage any already-created transcript or summary in the app.
Alexa+ is optional and creates a separate sharing path
You do not need to connect Bee to Alexa+. The integration is optional and enables hands-free access to Bee insights. Enabling it creates a deliberate path for Alexa+ to retrieve or present those Bee results, so turn it on only if that convenience is worth the additional integration.
Before enabling the connection, decide whether hands-free access fits the sensitivity of your notes. If you later stop using the integration, remove or disable it through the controls offered in your current Bee or Alexa experience; labels may change as the software is updated.

Keep Alexa recording controls separate from Bee
Bee’s microphone button and LED do not replace Alexa’s own privacy controls. Amazon’s Alexa FAQ says you can review and delete Alexa voice recordings in Alexa Privacy. Alexa devices also show an indicator when audio is streaming, and hands-free Alexa can be disabled through device controls or settings.

- Use Bee’s physical microphone button and LED for Bee capture.
- Use Alexa Privacy to review or delete Alexa voice recordings.
- Watch the Alexa device’s streaming indicator when speaking to Alexa.
- Disable hands-free Alexa through the device controls or settings when you do not want the Alexa wake-and-listen experience active.
A Bee session and an Alexa voice interaction are therefore different privacy events. Check the indicator and control for the system you are actually using.
Troubleshoot the most common setup and privacy problems
Bee does not appear connected
- Confirm that the Bee app is signed in to the intended Amazon account.
- Keep Bee Frontier close to the phone while following the current in-app connection prompts.
- Close and reopen the Bee app, then retry its add-device or connection flow.
- Because Amazon has not published one universal pairing sequence, use the labels shown by your installed app rather than an older guide.
No insight appears after a test
- Confirm that you pressed the microphone button once to start and again to stop.
- Check that the LED indicated processing during the test.
- Wait for the app to display the resulting transcript, summary, or extracted to-do.
- Repeat with a short sentence in a quiet room and with the microphone area unobstructed.
You are unsure whether capture is still active
Press the microphone button to stop the session and check the LED. If you configured an automatic timeout, remember that it is triggered by a selected period with no detected sound; it is not an instant mute switch. For future sessions, keep the LED visible and use the button at every privacy boundary.
You shared something by mistake
Stop further access through the sharing or integration control available in the current app, then delete the Bee transcript or summary if you no longer want it retained. Also check whether you connected Alexa+ or another enabled path, because an integration can provide access independently of a one-time share.
Which Bee hardware should you choose?
Bee Frontier is the practical choice if you want the currently listed wearable and a known physical-button workflow. Its listed price is $74.99 in Amazon’s 2026 information, and its battery claim is up to seven days. Bee Eclipse may suit someone who prefers a magnetic phone attachment and a longer claimed battery duration, but Amazon lists it as announced from $99.99 with release timing coming soon. Its final availability and detailed controls should be confirmed when Amazon releases it.
Do not choose based on battery claims alone: both figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent endurance tests. The decisive differences in the announced information are the wrist-wearable versus magnetic-phone form factor, the stated battery duration, and whether the device is available when you need it.
A privacy-first Bee routine
- Start each session by pressing Bee’s microphone button deliberately.
- Verify the visible LED before speaking about sensitive material.
- Tell nearby participants that a Bee capture is active when their voices may be included.
- Stop capture with the button as soon as the conversation or note ends.
- Review the transcript and summary before sharing anything.
- Delete transcripts and summaries you do not need to retain.
- Keep Alexa+ disconnected unless hands-free access to Bee insights is intentional.
- Use Alexa Privacy and Alexa device controls separately for Alexa recordings and hands-free listening.
The essential control model is simple: the button starts and stops Bee capture, the LED shows when processing is on, and the app manages the insights created afterward. Raw audio is described by Amazon as processed in real time and deleted after processing, while retained transcripts and summaries remain under your control to review, share, or delete.
