Use the official NFL injury report to follow practice and game-status updates, then check again near kickoff for confirmed inactives. NFL Mobile’s alert preferences are under More → Settings → Alert Preferences; the exact alert options can vary by app version, so treat push notifications as a convenience and verify important updates against the official report.
Set up NFL Mobile alerts
-
Open or install the official NFL App. NFL identifies it as available for iOS and Android phones and tablets in its app support information.

In the app, go to More → Settings → Alert Preferences. NFL Support documents this route in its notification instructions; those instructions explain how to turn alerts off, so the available enable controls and alert categories may differ by current app version.

Look for your favorite team below the general alert controls and enable any relevant options the app offers.

Check your phone’s system settings to make sure notifications are allowed for the NFL app. NFL’s service terms note that mobile alerts may include push notifications or text messages, and delivery can vary by carrier and device; messages may be delayed or undelivered.
No cited official source confirms a dedicated, universal injury-and-inactives alert toggle across all current app versions. If you do not see a suitable option, use the injury report directly and revisit it near kickoff.

Check the official report and understand what it shows
Go to NFL.com’s injury report and locate the relevant team, player, or game. The report distinguishes Practice Status from Game Status: a practice listing describes participation during the week, while the game designation addresses whether a player is expected to participate.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The NFL’s policy explainer defines the game-status terms as follows:
- Questionable: It is uncertain whether the player will play.
- Doubtful: It is unlikely the player will participate.
- Out: The player will not play.
The league eliminated the former Probable designation. Its policy explainer says approximately 95 percent of players previously listed as Probable played; that is historical context for the change, not a current probability for players with other designations. A player certain to play may also be absent from the Game Status Report even if they appeared on practice reports.
When injury reports and inactive lists are published
In the NFL’s 2026–27 important-dates calendar, practice reports and Game Status Reports are generally due by 4:00 p.m. New York time, or as soon as possible after practice concludes. The filing weekday depends on when the game is scheduled; non-Sunday games follow different schedules. Check the calendar for the specific matchup rather than assuming every team reports on the same day.
An injury designation is not the final inactive list. NFL Support states: “Players are designated ‘Inactive’ by their NFL teams about 90 minutes before the game is scheduled to start if they are unable to play.” The timing comes from its Auto-Swap Inactives article. Recheck close to kickoff because an earlier report can become stale and later updates may change what is known.

Choose the right way to follow updates
| Method | Best for | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| NFL.com injury report | Checking official practice and game-status information | Revisit it near kickoff for inactive information; an earlier status is not the final inactive list. |
| NFL Mobile alerts | Push or other app alerts for a favorite team, if the current app offers relevant controls | Preferences are under More → Settings → Alert Preferences, but the documented support instructions focus on turning alerts off and do not establish a universal enable flow. |
| NFL Fantasy league alerts | League-specific email or push notifications | These settings are separate from NFL Mobile preferences and are not documented as a comprehensive feed for every league injury or inactive announcement. See NFL Fantasy notification support. |
| Third-party or fantasy push alerts | Getting a prompt to look for a change | Verify the information against the NFL’s official report rather than treating an alert as the final record. |
A practical checking routine
-
During the week, check the official injury report for practice and game-status updates.
Best Value
-
Use NFL Mobile team alerts if your app version provides relevant preferences, but do not rely on notifications as the only source.
-
On game day, revisit the official report close to kickoff. Teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before the scheduled start.
