To set up an airfare alert, search your route and travel dates in a flight-search service, then turn on its price-tracking control and confirm the alert was saved. Google Flights, KAYAK and Skyscanner all offer alerts, but their tracking options and update behavior differ. Treat a notification as a prompt to check the live fare—not a promise that the quoted price is still available.
Choose what you want to track
If your travel dates are fixed, search those exact dates and track the itinerary or flight you may book. If your dates are flexible, use route-level tracking where available, then compare the date options separately. Tracking scope varies by service, so check that the alert matches your route and dates rather than assuming every alert follows one specific itinerary.

Set up an alert
Google Flights
- Search your route and travel dates in Google Flights.
- Choose the price-tracking option for the flight, route or dates you want to follow.
- Check that tracking is enabled for the intended search. Google says significant price changes may prompt email updates; it may also send regular updates with the best available prices when there has not been a large enough drop. Google Flights help
KAYAK
- Sign in to KAYAK and search for your flight.
- On the flight-results page, turn on Track prices at the upper left.
- Confirm the alert appears in your account or on KAYAK’s alerts page, where alerts can also be managed. KAYAK Price Alerts help
KAYAK describes daily scheduled updates and real-time updates for significant changes. Its help page says a significant change is typically a rise or drop of about 10% since the previous update; that is KAYAK’s description, not a standard used by every alert service. Alerts expire after the travel date and may also expire if you do not open or engage with alert emails.

Skyscanner
- Log in to Skyscanner, then search for your route and date.
- On desktop, select Track prices or Get Price Alerts. On mobile web or in the app, save the flight or use the alert control shown in the results.
- Check your account profile to confirm the alert is active. You can remove alerts from your profile or from an alert email. Skyscanner setup help, updated March 20, 2026.
What to expect from alerts
Alerts do not all work the same way. Google describes email updates for significant price changes and says it may send routine updates even without a large drop. KAYAK describes daily updates plus real-time notices for significant changes. Skyscanner says it emails users when prices change. None of these notifications guarantees that a fare can still be booked at the price shown.

Skyscanner says its alert email is a guide based on a single-adult price snapshot from the day it is sent. The price may have changed by the time you open the email, and the fare may no longer be available at all. See Skyscanner’s explanation of prices.
Check the fare before booking
- Open the alert and return to the same route, dates and itinerary.
- Confirm the current fare for your passenger count; an alert snapshot may not reflect the price for a different number of travelers.
- Review the fare conditions and the total price with the airline or booking provider before paying.
Use the alert to know when to look again, then make the booking decision from the live itinerary and final price. An alert email itself is not a reservation or a fare guarantee.
