Check YouTube Live eligibility and prepare the stream
YouTube says a channel needs to be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. Its general getting-started guidance also says users must be at least 16. Check the status while signed in to the channel that will broadcast; eligibility is account-specific. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.

- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Stream.
- Create a stream for a first encoder broadcast, or open the scheduled or recurring stream you intend to use.
- Review its title, description, category, audience and privacy settings. Do not assume the default privacy setting is the one you want; YouTube notes that defaults can vary.
For a scheduled event, YouTube recommends preparing the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. That gives you time to confirm the preview and fix problems before viewers arrive. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Find and protect your YouTube stream key
In the selected stream’s Live Control Room settings, find the stream key and the corresponding stream URL. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Copy the key only into Streamlabs or another trusted encoder; never reveal it in a screen recording, stream, public post or chat. YouTube allows custom keys for reuse. Manage live stream settings covers stream keys and related options.

If you think the key has been exposed, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream → Stream key → Reset. Then replace the saved key in Streamlabs with the new one. Editors and viewers cannot reset it. A dated Streamlabs support article describes an older route through YouTube Studio; if its wording differs from the current interface, follow the labels in YouTube Studio.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube Live
Streamlabs’ current Quick Start guide, dated May 20, 2026, describes platform connection during onboarding and the Desktop setup flow. Labels and locations can change between versions, but there are two documented approaches: use the YouTube connection option if your version offers it, or enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key manually. Neither route is established as universally better. Streamlabs Desktop Quick Start guide.

Build a devotional scene and configure audio
A Streamlabs scene is a container for sources and graphics. For a simple first broadcast, add only what the stream needs: a camera or authorized devotional image/video source, a readable title or schedule, and any graphics you have permission to use. Source order controls which items appear in front of others. Streamlabs’ Quick Start guide explains scenes, sources and setup.

Choose video and network settings
In Streamlabs Desktop, use Settings → Video/Output to set the base and output resolution, frame rate, bitrate and encoder available in your version. Streamlabs does not prescribe one setting for every computer and connection; choose values the machine can encode and the upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s guidance says, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” It recommends keeping about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate, accounting for the primary plus backup stream where applicable. A shared connection may leave less upload capacity for your broadcast than the line’s headline speed suggests. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
There is no special bitrate, resolution or frame-rate preset established for Indian devotional channels. Prioritize stable audio and video, and test the settings on the actual connection you will use. In YouTube’s stream settings, latency and DVR are optional choices, not part of stream-key authentication: lower latency can add buffering, while DVR lets viewers pause and rewind. Choose latency according to how much real-time audience interaction matters.

Test privately, then start the broadcast
- Set the stream to private or unlisted for a short first test, if appropriate for your channel and event.
- Start the encoder from Streamlabs and check the Live Control Room preview before making the event public or using its Go Live control. For scheduled streams, YouTube may require you to start the encoder first and then confirm Go Live in Live Control Room.
- Check the watch page and playback on a mobile device. Confirm that the image is framed correctly, speech is audible, other audio is balanced, and the stream is not unintentionally public.
- Monitor audio and video during the event. When finished, stop the stream on YouTube and stop the encoder.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance is at YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs cannot connect or YouTube shows no incoming feed | The wrong stream is open, the URL or key was copied incorrectly, or the key was reset. | Open the intended stream in Live Control Room and compare its current URL and key with Streamlabs. Replace stale values and verify the fields are not swapped. |
| YouTube receives a feed but the event is not visible to viewers | The encoder preview has arrived, but the stream has not been taken live, or the privacy setting differs from the intended setting. | Check Live Control Room for the preview and its Go Live control, then verify the stream’s privacy setting and watch page. |
| Viewers cannot hear speech | The wrong microphone may be selected, muted or not producing input. | Check the Audio Mixer input and meter while speaking; confirm the selected device and its mute state. |
| Video or audio buffers or drops | The stream may be using more upload bandwidth than is available, particularly on a shared connection. | Reduce the encoder load or bitrate in Streamlabs and preserve YouTube’s recommended bandwidth headroom; test again before the event. |
| The stream key may have appeared on screen | The key should be treated as exposed. | Ask a YouTube channel owner or manager to reset it in Live Control Room, then update Streamlabs with the replacement. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded devotional videos rather than broadcast a camera or live microphone, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only; it does not broadcast a live camera feed.
