To stream a Telugu devotional playlist through FFmpeg, create or select a YouTube Live stream, copy its exact RTMPS server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, then have FFmpeg send a compatible audio/video feed to that destination. Test the preview before making the event public. The key is a secret credential, and the playlist’s language or devotional subject does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast its recordings.
Before you start
You need a YouTube channel eligible to livestream, an FFmpeg build with the encoders and protocols you intend to use, the media files for your playlist, and an internet connection with enough stable upload capacity for the selected stream settings. YouTube’s current general eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. Make sure you have the rights to stream each recording, including its particular performance and recording. A devotional song, traditional melody, or Telugu-language recording is not automatically cleared for livestreaming. Use recordings you own or have permission to broadcast.

Create the YouTube stream and retrieve its key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room. You can create a new stream or select a scheduled one.
- Open the stream’s Stream tab and copy the server URL and stream key shown in its settings. Follow the endpoint and key format YouTube displays; do not substitute an assumed generic URL. YouTube’s walkthrough is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Use the RTMPS URL when the installed FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection; its instructions for finding the endpoint and addressing connection errors are at Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a screenshot, shared command, repository, or public chat. YouTube explains key management and resetting an exposed key in Manage live stream settings. If someone may have seen the key, reset it in Live Control Room and update the FFmpeg destination before streaming again.

Choose a compatible stream format
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which must not exceed four seconds. For a straightforward FFmpeg setup, the example below uses H.264 video and AAC audio. Follow YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually choose; the current table is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

These are YouTube’s published ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or network can sustain the stream. Select a bitrate your upload connection can reliably maintain; if it cannot hold the target, reduce the resolution or bitrate and test again. YouTube also specifies square pixels, progressive scan, stereo AAC at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, and Rec. 709 for SDR color.

Send a media file to YouTube with FFmpeg
First confirm that your FFmpeg build has the required components. For the example command, that includes the libx264 video encoder, AAC audio encoding, and RTMPS support. FFmpeg’s documentation describes its generic real-time file-to-RTMP pattern—real-time input, FLV output, and a publishing destination—at FFmpeg Protocols Documentation.

Keep the real key private; avoid saving it in shell history or a shared script. - Adapt the example’s bitrate and keyframe settings to your chosen resolution and frame rate. This example assumes a 30-fps H.264/AAC SDR stream; it is illustrative, not a tested command or universal preset.

The -g 60 value gives a two-second keyframe interval for 30 fps. The example’s 4,500 Kbps video bitrate is not a fit for every resolution: use the appropriate YouTube table entry and ensure your network can sustain the selected total upload rate. The publishing URL commonly includes the key, but use the exact current format shown for your stream.

This command sends one input file. To broadcast multiple tracks as a playlist, arrange the media into a single continuous input using an FFmpeg-compatible playlist or concat workflow, ensuring files have compatible codecs, resolution, frame rate, and audio characteristics. Test transitions and audio levels before using it for a public event; a command that works for one file may need adjustment for a mixed playlist.
Preview, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Start FFmpeg and wait for Live Control Room to show the incoming signal and preview. Check that the picture moves and the devotional audio is audible and in sync.
- For a scheduled event, click Go live in Live Control Room only after the preview is ready. YouTube’s operational tips recommend setting up an encoder stream at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event so there is time to check it.
- During the broadcast, monitor YouTube’s stream health and audio/video quality as well as FFmpeg’s output. At the end, stop sending content and use the Live Control Room end-stream control where applicable.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube shows no incoming signal: Confirm FFmpeg is still running, the destination was copied from this stream’s settings, and the key is current. Check that the FFmpeg build supports the selected RTMPS protocol and encoder.
- RTMPS connection or SSL error: Verify that the destination uses the RTMPS scheme and server shown in Live Control Room. YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance says to specify port 443 for a particular SSL error; apply that only when it matches the error and endpoint instructions.
- Video buffers or stream health degrades: The upload connection may not sustain the chosen bitrate. Test upload capacity and reduce resolution or bitrate until the connection is stable, then confirm the resulting signal in preview.
- FFmpeg reports an unavailable encoder: The installed build may not include
libx264or another selected encoder. Check the build’s available encoders and use a supported codec, or install a build with the required component. - The event is live but the recording has missing or silent sections: Check each source file’s audio and video, format compatibility, playlist transitions, and the FFmpeg process output before restarting. A successful connection does not validate every playlist item.
- The key was exposed or stopped working after a reset: Reset it in Live Control Room, then replace the destination in FFmpeg with the newly issued key. Do not continue publishing with a potentially exposed credential.
