Do you mean a personal YouTube Music mix, or a public livestream other people can tune into? For private listening, build a custom station in YouTube Music. To publish a radio-style programme, you need an eligible YouTube channel, a video-and-audio feed, and permission for every recording and composition you broadcast.
Choose between a personal mix and a public station
A YouTube Music station is a listening mix tailored to your account; it is not a public broadcast. A YouTube livestream is a programme published on your channel, with separate eligibility, production, monitoring, and music-rights requirements. Choose the personal mix for your own listening and a livestream only when you intend to broadcast to viewers.

Build a personal Indian classical station in YouTube Music
- Open the YouTube Music homepage and find Your music tuner.
- Select up to 30 favorite artists. Seed it with the Indian classical performers you want to hear, then adjust the choices according to the results.
- Choose the available variety and familiar-versus-new-music settings, and apply any filters shown in your app.
- Select Done to create the station. Listen and refine your artist choices or settings as recommendations develop.
YouTube describes this as an endless mix customized for the listener; recommendations may draw on the linked YouTube account and become more finely tuned as you listen. The official guide does not promise that every artist, gharana, or tradition will be searchable. If the tuner is unavailable or its results stray, narrow the artist selection or start from a relevant track or album. A March 15, 2023 Gadgets Now walkthrough described an item-menu option called “Start radio” for a song, album, or artist, but its wording and placement may have changed. Labels such as “Familiar,” “Blend,” “Discover,” “Deep cuts,” “New releases,” “Chill,” and “Focus” are version-sensitive; follow the controls currently visible in your app.
Set up a public radio-style YouTube livestream
1. Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enable livestreaming in YouTube Studio; first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not plan a first broadcast around an immediate start.

2. Prepare the programme and rights
Assemble the audio, video, and any visual material before creating the broadcast. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the intended live use, territories, duration, and any archive or monetization plans. Rights are covered in detail below.
3. Create or schedule the broadcast
In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live and use the Live Control Room to create or schedule the stream. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console approaches; a simpler option may be enough if your programme does not need external sources or overlays.
4. Connect an encoder if your production needs one
Enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as a secret: it is the credential that lets the encoder send your feed. Do not share it publicly or include it in a screen capture.

5. Preview, check, and go live
Start the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, and verify that the programme is accessible and that audio and video behave as intended. Test the full programme and monitor the broadcast rather than assuming that a successful preview guarantees the entire stream will remain uninterrupted.
6. End the broadcast
Stop the encoder and end the stream in the Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance is not a promise of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Choose a production method that fits the programme

YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to start. Choose equipment only when the production actually needs external audio or video; an encoder is software or a workflow choice, not a prerequisite for every livestream.

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube describes music as safe to use when it is in the public domain or you have permission from the copyright owner. A “free” label or a description claiming permission does not prevent a Content ID claim, and buying rights elsewhere does not automatically notify Content ID. YouTube identifies its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music in certain regions, and third-party music with a checked licence as possible sources.

A personal listening licence or permission for one ordinary video should not be assumed to cover continuous public livestreaming.
- Confirm permissions for both the composition and the particular sound recording or performance.
- Check that the permission covers livestreaming, intended platforms, duration, territories, archives or replays, and monetization if applicable.
- Keep written records of the permission and its scope; do not rely on attribution or a “free” label as proof.
The applicable rights can differ by recording, performance, composition, territory, and intended use. The Indian Music Industry/IPRS submission to TRAI describes IPRS as a copyright society representing authors, composers, and music publishers in India; it is a stakeholder submission, not legal advice or a complete clearance guide for a particular recording or livestream. Seek qualified rights advice where needed. YouTube’s Creator Music help page says the product is available to U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion outside the U.S. pending, and that terms are track-specific. An India-based channel should check current access rather than assume it can use Creator Music.

Run a prerecorded Indian classical playlist continuously
If the station is a playlist of prerecorded material rather than a live performance, you still need a feed to YouTube and rights that cover the broadcast. You can produce that feed with an encoder or use a cloud service designed to loop uploaded videos. A cloud service is an optional alternative to keeping a local computer and connection running; it does not remove the need to clear music rights or satisfy YouTube’s rules.

Prasar Bharati’s 2024–25 Annual Report says around 40 percent of total broadcasts on Akashvani primary channels comprise music, including classical, light, folk, film, and music in various languages. It also describes Akashvani regional services as promoting art and culture with major emphasis on Indian classical music. These figures describe Akashvani’s broadcasts, not YouTube listening, audience size, or the share of Indian classical music alone.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Your channel cannot start a live stream: Check verification and whether a livestream restriction has applied within the preceding 90 days. If this is first-time enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- The encoder does not connect: Check that its stream URL and key match the broadcast in the Live Control Room. Keep the key private; if it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder.
- The preview is missing or the programme is not accessible: Confirm the encoder is running and sending the intended feed, then wait for the Live Control Room preview and test before going live.
- A track triggers a copyright claim: A free label or an off-platform purchase does not establish that the livestream is cleared or inform Content ID. Recheck permissions for the composition, recording, live use, and territories; remove or replace material you cannot verify.
- The personal station misses an artist or returns an unsuitable mix: The tuner does not guarantee complete artist coverage. Narrow the selected artists, adjust current controls, or try a station starting from a relevant track or album.
