You can run a YouTube radio livestream over JioFiber with a computer-based encoder, a YouTube stream key, and an upload connection that can sustain the encoder’s total bitrate. Start with a low-motion visual at 720p30 and YouTube’s recommended 3 Mbps H.264 video bitrate, then test the actual JioFiber connection from the computer you will stream from. Jio’s advertised plan speed is not a substitute for that local test.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says it must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- A computer running encoder software. YouTube’s workflow sends video and audio from encoder software to the Live Control Room; it does not require one particular encoder product. See YouTube’s encoder setup steps.
- Your radio audio source and a visual, such as a static show graphic. A microphone is needed only if the format includes a live presenter; it is not a universal requirement. Use only audio and video you have the right to broadcast.
- A JioFiber connection with sufficient measured upload capacity. Available plans and speeds depend on plan and area, and the result at your home can vary.
Choose encoder settings for a radio visual
A static or low-motion graphic usually does not need the same video bitrate as fast-moving footage. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends these H.264 video bitrates, with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; it recommends stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps. These are starting recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will perform well.

For either option, set the video bitrate mode to CBR, the keyframe interval to 2 seconds (do not exceed 4 seconds), and audio to AAC stereo at 128 Kbps if your encoder exposes those controls. YouTube’s recommendations are documented at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Confirm channel access. In YouTube Studio, make sure the channel can go live and meets YouTube’s current eligibility requirements.
- Prepare the programme. Select the audio input or route the radio programme into the encoder. Add a static image or other visual. Test the exact audio source you intend to broadcast, and confirm that you have broadcast rights for the material.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, click Create, then Go Live, and open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the one you intend to use.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. YouTube’s workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Enter the details in the encoder. Choose its YouTube option if available. Otherwise, paste the server URL in the server field and the stream key in the key field. Set the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval and audio encoding you chose above.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Check the picture and listen to the audio in Live Control Room. Select Go live in YouTube only after the preview and stream health look acceptable.
- End the broadcast cleanly. When finished, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.
Measure JioFiber upload capacity before going live
YouTube’s key rule is that the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. Its streaming guidance recommends a speed test, realistic testing with content like the intended broadcast, and about 20% upload headroom. A 3 Mbps video stream plus 128 Kbps audio already exceeds 3 Mbps before network overhead, so do not set the encoder bitrate equal to the speed-test result. Leave additional capacity for overhead and other household internet use.

- Connect the streaming computer to the Jio Home Gateway. If practical, use Ethernet while testing and broadcasting to reduce dependence on Wi-Fi conditions; Ethernet is a practical choice, not a JioFiber requirement.
- Run an upload speed test on that computer, using the same connection and location you plan to stream from. Repeat at a time representative of your broadcast if your connection varies.
- Start a rehearsal with the intended audio and visual, and watch YouTube’s stream health. Test at the selected settings before announcing a public broadcast.
- If upload capacity or stream health is marginal, lower the video bitrate or resolution and repeat the rehearsal. Keep the total bitrate below the available upload rate with headroom.
YouTube explains its test-and-headroom guidance in Streaming tips. Jio’s regional plan page describes symmetric upload and download speeds and lists example 30, 100, 150 and 300 Mbps tiers, but these are advertised plan examples—not a measurement of your home connection or a guarantee of local availability. Check your own result rather than inferring upload capacity from a plan tier: Jio’s regional broadband plan information.
Rehearse and monitor the broadcast
- Listen for continuous, clean programme audio; a picture preview alone will not reveal a silent or distorted input.
- Check that the intended visual appears and that the encoder reports a stable connection.
- Use a private or unlisted rehearsal if you want to verify the workflow before a public event.
- Monitor audio and stream health while live. YouTube recommends testing representative content and checking quality; its computer tips also say expensive equipment is not required to start. See YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
Troubleshooting common problems
The encoder will not connect
Check that the server URL and stream key belong to the stream open in Live Control Room, and that each is pasted into the matching encoder field. If the key has been exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings; see Manage live stream settings.

Dropped frames or poor stream health
Run the upload test again from the streaming computer, reduce the video bitrate or resolution, and leave upload headroom. The full stream bitrate—not just the video component—must fit the available upload capacity.

Confirm that the encoder is receiving the selected input, then test with the actual programme audio before going live. Check the input level and channel selection in your encoder, and listen to the YouTube preview or rehearsal rather than relying only on the encoder’s meters.

Should you use low latency?
For a radio stream that does not depend on real-time audience interaction, normal latency may be suitable. Lower latency can increase buffering, so choose according to whether immediate interaction matters. YouTube describes stream latency options in Manage live stream settings.
