How to Set Up a Website Change Monitor in Fluxguard

To set up a website change monitor in Fluxguard, add the site, let its first crawl create a baseline, choose the kind of change that should trigger a new version, then run a test crawl and set a recurring schedule. The right comparison method depends on whether you care about wording, page structure, appearance, loaded resources, or selected keywords.

1. Add the site and establish a baseline

  1. Add the target: From the Fluxguard dashboard, add the site or page you want to monitor. Fluxguard creates a session for it. One session may be enough for a simple monitoring task; separate sessions can represent distinct user journeys.
  2. Wait for the initial crawl to finish: Fluxguard uses the first capture as the baseline for later comparisons. Inspect its screenshot, rendered HTML, extracted text, and network activity so you know what the monitor is seeing. See Fluxguard’s website-change tutorial.
  3. Choose the pages and path: Review URLs discovered during the crawl and add the relevant ones. Reorder pages if needed. Fluxguard says sessions preserve cookies and local storage, which can support a sequence in which a later page depends on an earlier action such as logging in.

2. Choose what counts as a change

In Session Settings, choose the primary detection strategy. Fluxguard’s general setup tutorial identifies extracted text as the default primary strategy. The primary strategy determines when Fluxguard records a new version; additional comparisons can then help explain what changed.

What you want to detect Comparison to consider What to watch for
Visible copy or page content Extracted text Useful for wording and content changes. If only particular terms matter, consider keyword-focused detection rather than treating every text difference as equally important.
Appearance, CSS effects, or image rendering Visual comparison Review screenshot differences; Fluxguard’s visual guide describes overlays and sliders for examining them.
Front-end structure or rendered code HTML/DOM comparison Dynamic rendering can produce noisy differences, so use filters where appropriate.
Scripts, images, or other loaded resources Network comparison Inspect network differences to identify resource changes.
Selected data represented as entities Extracted-entity comparison Choose this when the monitored target is entity data rather than general page text or pixels.

These are documented Fluxguard capabilities, not independent performance results. The product’s setup guide covers comparison strategies and filters at Monitor Website Changes with Fluxguard; the visual workflow is documented at Monitor Visual Changes to Websites.

3. Test a second crawl

  1. Use the play control to start another crawl manually.
  2. Open the comparison against the initial capture and check whether the reported difference matches what you intended to monitor.
  3. For a visual-specific workflow, set the primary comparison to visual change, run another crawl, then inspect the visual diff.

If the result is too broad or misses a relevant change, revisit the primary strategy, page selection, and filters before relying on recurring alerts.

4. Set the crawl schedule

Open Session Settings and then the Crawl tab to choose a recurring frequency. Fluxguard’s frequency tutorial lists intervals including every 15 minutes, every hour, every day, and every month. Very fast frequencies may require verification by emailing Fluxguard from the monitored domain; confirm current account eligibility and available interface options before depending on a particular interval. See Fluxguard’s frequency tutorial.

Choose an interval that fits how quickly the target can change and how often you need to act on a finding. The documentation describes schedule choices but does not establish a universal ideal cadence.

5. Review alerts and reduce noise

  • Use text, rendered HTML, screenshot, and network comparisons to understand the reported change rather than relying only on an alert summary.
  • Apply inclusion or exclusion filters when recurring irrelevant differences obscure the changes you care about.
  • Use keyword-based detection when only particular terms matter, or network blocks where unwanted network activity is the source of noise.
  • Adjust email report frequency in account settings. Fluxguard’s visual guide also identifies webhooks as an integration option.

Fluxguard’s tutorial index covers keyword monitoring, false-positive reduction, password-protected pages, forms, clicked elements, APIs, and webhooks: Basic and Advanced Set-up Tutorials. Its console walkthrough describes the main views, comparisons, settings, and filtering capabilities: Fluxguard web console walkthrough.

When to use separate sessions or interaction steps

Use separate sessions when the pages represent distinct user flows or need different monitoring settings. A multi-step path may be appropriate when the content appears only after a login, form submission, or click. Add actions only where the monitored page requires them; Fluxguard’s tutorial index lists guides for protected pages, forms, and clicked elements.

If you need screenshot captures in code or an AI-agent workflow alongside Fluxguard monitoring, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its optional cleanup can accept consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. ScreenshotNeo says bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and its responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. All listed features are available on every plan; the free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo.

Example using cURL (replace the target URL as needed):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
