Start by measuring the corner or nook, listing the equipment that must fit, and deciding whether the station is for PC or console play. IKEA’s compact UTVISNING desk measures 47 1/4 × 23 5/8 inches, but the desk’s footprint is only part of the space you need: allow for the chair, access, cables, and how you will use the station.
1. Plan around the room and the player
Before choosing furniture, decide who will use the station, what they will play, and what the room can accommodate. IKEA’s small-room guide recommends planning around those questions and suggests built-in cable management for a desk, a TV bench with storage for console setups, and a desk sized for the essentials. That is retailer guidance, not independent ergonomic research.

2. Measure the usable footprint
IKEA lists the UTVISNING gaming desk at 47 1/4 inches wide by 23 5/8 inches deep. Treat those dimensions as a reference for the desk itself, not as a minimum room-size recommendation. The IKEA product page does not establish a required clearance around it.

- Measure usable wall width and floor depth, including any baseboards or outlets that affect placement.
- Check door, drawer, and cupboard swings, plus the route you will use to bring in and assemble the desk.
- Allow room to pull out and move the chair, reach the desk, and clean behind it.
- Plan how power and display cables will reach outlets without crossing a path or catching on chair movement.
Measure the complete arrangement on the floor or with painter’s tape before buying. The desk may fit while the chair or an open door does not.
3. Pick a desk that fits the equipment
UTVISNING: a compact PC-oriented option
IKEA describes UTVISNING as intended for compact play. Its listed features include a monitor shelf, a tray for cables and sockets, two headphone hooks, and straps for suspending a computer tower. The legs have six manual height settings from 27 to 30 inches. IKEA says the shelf can hold up to two 24-inch flat screens, and that a keyboard and mouse can slide underneath when not in use. Those are manufacturer specifications and claims; check your actual screen bases, monitor placement, and sightline before relying on a two-screen arrangement.

UTESPELARE: a larger surface when the room allows
IKEA’s UTESPELARE measures 63 × 31 1/2 inches, making it substantially wider and deeper than UTVISNING. IKEA describes a mesh section at the rear for airflow and six manual height positions spanning roughly 26 3/4 to 30 3/4 inches in the measurements section of its product page. It is a scale comparison for a setup needing more desk surface, not the default choice for a small nook.

Compare the documented footprint and features with your equipment list. Choose the smaller desk only if its surface and shelf suit your devices; the larger desk requires meaningfully more room. Neither product page’s stated specifications substitute for checking how your specific monitors, tower, and chair fit together.
4. Match seating and storage to the way you play
IKEA’s UK guide distinguishes between console seating priorities—softness, support, and ease of movement—and PC-chair features such as castors, headrest, seat depth, lumbar support, armrests, and tilt tension. Use those as prompts to compare chairs against the player and the way the station will be used; the guide is retailer advice, not independent evidence of ergonomic outcomes.

The same guide describes mesh as the most breathable among the upholstery categories it compares and describes MATCHSPEL as having a mesh back and an easy-to-wipe coated-fabric seat. These are IKEA’s descriptions, not independent material testing.
For a small room, IKEA recommends flexible furniture that can move or serve more than one purpose. Keep frequently used items such as controllers and a headset close by, and put less-used accessories in closed or elevated storage. IKEA’s US setup gallery shows EKET storage and IVAR cabinetry as examples of ways to store accessories and household items while visually integrating a gaming nook with an adjoining space.

5. Organize cables and manage glare
Where the desk provides a cable route, use it to gather power and signal cables, and make sure sockets remain accessible. IKEA describes UTVISNING’s tray as a place to gather cables and sockets; its small-room guide also recommends looking for built-in cable management. Route cables so they do not snag when the chair moves.
IKEA’s US setup gallery recommends a directed work lamp beside the desk and room-darkening curtains when daylight falls on the monitor and causes glare. It also presents backlighting as an atmosphere option. Treat decorative or RGB lighting as optional; the gallery’s lighting advice is retailer guidance, not a claim that a lighting setup treats eye strain.
