How to Set Up a Samsung S95H or LG G6 OLED for Movies and TV

Start with Filmmaker Mode, then verify the active picture settings while playing the exact signal you watch: SDR, HDR10, or Dolby Vision. The LG G6 can apply separate settings by input and format, while the Samsung S95H does not support Dolby Vision. Room lighting, reflections, and your tolerance for motion processing determine the final adjustments.

The quickest correct setup

For either television, use this baseline before making personal changes:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Select Filmmaker Mode for movie and television content.
  • Play a representative title in the format you actually use, then confirm the mode again. On the LG G6, SDR, HDR, and Dolby Vision can have separate picture settings.
  • Keep the source’s original framing by using the television’s original-size, Just Scan, or equivalent option when available. The exact label depends on firmware.
  • In a bright room, consider the LG G6’s Cinema Home mode for HDR or Dolby Vision because LG describes it as brighter than Cinema.
  • On the S95H, leave Auto HDR Remastering Pro off until you decide that its extra processing suits your room and taste. Samsung lists it as off by default.

This is a starting point rather than a universal calibration. A setting that looks accurate in a dark room can look too dim in daylight, and a setting that appears vivid in a showroom can obscure the intended balance of a film at home.

Why the same title can look different

A television does not always use one global picture profile. The source may be SDR, HDR10, or Dolby Vision; the signal may arrive through a different HDMI input or a streaming app; and the active mode can change when playback begins. LG specifically says that HDR and Dolby Vision settings may be applied separately and that the input or signal can change which modes are available.

The practical consequence is simple: do not set the TV from a home-screen preview and assume the setting will carry over to every movie. Start playback, open the picture controls, and check the active mode during that content type. Repeat the check for SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision if you watch all three.

The two models also differ in format support. LG support materials describe Dolby Vision support for the G6. An independent comparison reports that the S95H lacks Dolby Vision and displays Dolby Vision-mastered material as standard HDR10 instead. A Dolby Vision title therefore cannot use Dolby Vision-specific controls on the S95H.

Prepare the television and room

Update the correct regional model

Before tuning the picture, install available firmware for the exact regional model. Use the manufacturer’s support page for your television and read the owner’s manual for the menu names shown by that software. The US LG G6 support listing includes the owner’s manual and quick guide and shows software-version information dated October 6, 2026; that listing applies to the US SKU, not automatically to every country.

Firmware can change menu wording or add and remove options. Record the labels you see before following a guide written for another region or an earlier release.

Control the viewing conditions

LG’s support guidance states: “In addition to the TV’s capabilities, room lighting, screen reflectance, picture settings and the video content all affect the actual picture you see on screen.” Treat this as part of the setup, not a footnote. Note whether you normally watch with lamps on, daylight entering from windows, or nearly complete darkness. Also check whether a lamp or window is reflected directly in the panel.

  • Dark room: Begin with Filmmaker Mode and judge shadow detail and overall comfort before increasing brightness.
  • Bright room: If HDR or Dolby Vision appears too subdued on the G6, compare Cinema Home with Cinema. On the S95H, evaluate optional HDR processing rather than immediately changing every control.
  • Reflections: Move a light source or change your seating angle before using aggressive processing to compensate for a visible reflection.

Step-by-step setup for movie and TV viewing

  1. Finish the physical installation. Connect the player, console, set-top box, or sound system to the intended input and confirm that each source is sending the format you expect. Keep the television and source on long enough for the normal picture controls to appear during playback.
  2. Install firmware for the exact model and region. Use the television’s support page and owner’s manual. Do not assume that a menu path from another country or screen size is identical.
  3. Start an SDR movie or programme. This can be broadcast television, a standard stream, or a non-HDR disc. Open the picture-mode menu and select Filmmaker Mode.
  4. Start HDR10 content. Wait for the HDR indicator or the change in available controls, then verify the picture mode again. Save adjustments only while HDR10 is active.
  5. Start Dolby Vision content on the LG G6. Check the mode and settings again while Dolby Vision is playing. LG describes separate Dolby Vision settings, so an SDR or HDR10 change may not carry over.
  6. Set the framing to the source. Choose Original, Just Scan, or the equivalent original-size setting if provided. Avoid zooming or cropping simply to fill every pixel; consult the manual when the label differs.
  7. Evaluate motion with familiar film material. On the G6, RTINGS recommends Real Cinema to remove film judder. Make the change while watching a scene with a slow camera pan and then check dialogue and fast cuts. Do not copy a motion-interpolation amount without deciding whether you prefer a film-like presentation or a smoother, processed look.
  8. Decide on optional processing. On the S95H, Samsung places Auto HDR Remastering Pro under Picture > Expert Settings and says it is off by default. Compare it with the feature off before keeping it enabled. On the G6, compare Cinema with Cinema Home only when the room or HDR/Dolby Vision brightness warrants it.
  9. Repeat after changing inputs or apps. A disc player, set-top box, internal app, and game console can expose different signal types and picture profiles. Verify the active mode instead of assuming the last selection applies everywhere.

Samsung S95H: the movie-focused baseline

Use Filmmaker Mode first

Samsung lists Filmmaker Mode among the S95H’s picture options, and RTINGS selected it as the starting point in its S95H settings guidance. Use it as the neutral baseline for films and scripted television, then assess the result in your normal room. Filmmaker Mode is not a guarantee that two panels, firmware versions, inputs, or rooms will look identical.

Understand Auto HDR Remastering Pro

Samsung describes Auto HDR Remastering Pro as optional processing and states that it is disabled by default. The documented path is Picture > Expert Settings. Enable it only if you prefer its treatment of compatible material after comparing the same scene with it off. It is not required to obtain an HDR picture and should not be treated as a neutral-reference requirement.

Consider HDR Tone Mapping only for a deliberate reason

RTINGS notes HDR Tone Mapping as an option for viewers who prefer a brighter image. If you use it, judge highlight detail and overall balance with several scenes rather than with a single bright shot. A brighter appearance is a preference decision, not proof that the source was mastered incorrectly.

Account for the lack of Dolby Vision

The independent S95H comparison cited for this setup reports no Dolby Vision support. When a service labels a title as Dolby Vision, the S95H displays it as standard HDR10. Use the HDR10 mode and controls that appear during playback; do not look for a Dolby Vision profile that the television does not provide.

Do not assume a specific motion recipe

The available S95H guidance does not establish a precise equivalent to the G6’s Real Cinema recommendation. Begin with the movie preset, watch a familiar pan, and make only the motion changes you can evaluate. If you dislike the artificial “smooth” appearance, reduce or disable interpolation rather than copying a number from an unrelated model or firmware version.

LG G6: separate profiles for separate signals

Filmmaker Mode is the starting point

LG’s general guidance supports Filmmaker Mode as an automatic starting option, and RTINGS selected it for the G6’s movie settings guidance. Select it while the desired content is playing, then verify it again after switching between SDR, HDR, and Dolby Vision.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Cinema or Cinema Home for HDR and Dolby Vision

LG describes Cinema Home as brighter than Cinema for HDR and Dolby Vision. Cinema is the better first comparison when you watch in a controlled or dark room; Cinema Home is the practical alternative when daylight or room lighting makes the standard cinema presentation difficult to see. Compare both with the same scene and keep the one that preserves detail without making the image uncomfortable.

  • ULTIMATE GAMEPLAY: Delivers smooth, responsive gaming with a 0.1ms response time, up to 165Hz⁵ refresh rate, NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium and VRR.

Use Real Cinema for film judder

RTINGS recommends Real Cinema on the G6 to remove judder. Test it with a slow horizontal pan, credits, or another familiar film sequence. This recommendation concerns film cadence; it does not require adding motion interpolation that changes the cinematic character of the image.

Recheck Dolby Vision independently

LG support describes Dolby Vision settings as separately applied. After Dolby Vision starts, open the picture menu and confirm the intended mode. A change made during SDR or HDR10 playback may not affect the Dolby Vision profile.

How to choose settings for your room

Situation First choice What to evaluate
Dark room, SDR or HDR10 Filmmaker Mode Shadow detail, comfort, and whether the image looks natural over a full programme
Bright room, LG G6 HDR or Dolby Vision Compare Cinema Home with Cinema Whether the brighter presentation improves visibility without making highlights or faces look excessive
S95H HDR content Filmmaker Mode, then optional processing by preference Auto HDR Remastering Pro on versus off, and HDR Tone Mapping only if you want a brighter result
Film with visible camera pans on LG G6 Filmmaker Mode with Real Cinema Reduced judder without an unwanted “soap opera” appearance
Dolby Vision title LG G6 Dolby Vision profile Confirm the mode after playback begins; the S95H uses HDR10 for this material

These are decision points, not promises that one mode will suit every panel or room. LG explicitly identifies lighting, reflectance, settings, and the content itself as variables in the picture you see.

Choosing between the S95H and G6 for this use

Decision axis Samsung S95H LG G6
Dolby Vision According to the cited independent comparison, not supported; Dolby Vision-mastered material is shown as HDR10 LG support materials describe Dolby Vision support, with separate Dolby Vision settings
Starting movie preset Filmmaker Mode Filmmaker Mode
Bright-room HDR option Evaluate optional HDR processing according to preference LG describes Cinema Home as brighter than Cinema for HDR and Dolby Vision
Motion guidance established here No equivalent precise instruction is established RTINGS recommends Real Cinema to remove judder
Room and reflection considerations Judge the actual room, seating, light sources, and content; LG notes that all affect the picture you see

If Dolby Vision is important to your library, the format difference is the clearest distinction. If your library is primarily HDR10 or SDR, use the same Filmmaker Mode baseline on both and decide from the room, processing preferences, and motion behavior rather than from a blanket claim that one screen is always better.

Troubleshooting common problems

The picture changed when a movie started

Check the active signal and picture mode during playback. This is expected when a service switches from SDR to HDR or Dolby Vision, or when a different input has its own profile. On the G6, save the desired choice for that specific signal rather than changing the SDR profile and expecting HDR to follow it.

HDR looks too dim in daylight

First reduce reflections or change the viewing angle. On the G6, compare Cinema Home with Cinema for HDR or Dolby Vision. On the S95H, compare Auto HDR Remastering Pro or HDR Tone Mapping deliberately, one change at a time. Do not enable every enhancement simultaneously because you will not know which change solved the problem.

Motion looks unnaturally smooth

Return to the movie preset and reduce or disable interpolation. On the G6, keep Real Cinema as the film-judder option while avoiding extra smoothing if you dislike the processed appearance. The available S95H guidance does not provide a model-specific numeric recipe, so judge the result with a familiar film rather than copying one.

The image is cropped or faces appear too close to the edge

Open the aspect-ratio or size controls and select the original framing, Just Scan, or equivalent option. Names differ by software and input. Check the owner’s manual for the exact regional model instead of forcing a zoom that hides part of the source.

A Dolby Vision menu is missing on the S95H

That is consistent with the cited comparison’s report that the S95H does not support Dolby Vision. The television will handle Dolby Vision-mastered material as HDR10, so use the HDR10 controls that appear.

A setting from an online guide is unavailable

Verify the model, region, firmware, input, and active signal. Menu availability can change between SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision, and the exact wording can vary by software. Use the current owner’s manual for the set in front of you.

When professional-style controls are useful

LG describes an ISF expert picture mode, which can be relevant when you want a more formal calibration workflow. No particular provider, service, or geographic coverage is established here, so do not treat the mode name as proof that a calibration service is included. For most viewers, the repeatable workflow is more important: update the television, select Filmmaker Mode, verify each signal separately, preserve original framing, and make only room- or preference-driven changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final setup checklist

  • Firmware matches the exact regional model.
  • Filmmaker Mode is selected for the content type being watched.
  • SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision profiles have been checked while each signal is active.
  • The LG G6 uses Cinema Home only when its extra HDR/Dolby Vision brightness benefits the room.
  • Auto HDR Remastering Pro on the S95H is treated as optional processing and compared with the default off state.
  • HDR Tone Mapping on the S95H is used only when a brighter presentation is preferred.
  • Real Cinema is enabled on the G6 if it removes visible film judder without unwanted smoothing.
  • Original framing or Just Scan is used instead of an unnecessary crop.
  • Reflections and room lighting have been addressed before adding aggressive picture processing.

The most reliable result is not a long list of copied numbers. It is a format-aware baseline that you verify during real playback, adjusted for the room in which you actually watch.
