Connect the Samsung HW-T400 to a TV with an optical cable or Bluetooth. Optical is the documented wired option and requires a TV optical audio output; Bluetooth avoids a cable but works only with compatible TVs. The steps below cover setup and the common pairing and audio-format fixes.
Choose optical or Bluetooth

Samsung lists both optical and Bluetooth for the HW-T400. Its specification sheet qualifies Bluetooth TV connection as available on select Samsung TVs, so do not assume every television supports pairing with the soundbar. Samsung’s HW-T400 support page lists the model’s documentation.

Connect the HW-T400 to your TV with an optical cable
- Check the TV’s ports. Look for an optical audio output. The soundbar end connects to the port labeled DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL). If the TV has no optical output, this method will not work.
- Connect the cable. Use an optical audio cable to connect the TV’s optical output to the soundbar’s DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port. Samsung’s manual specifies “Optical Cable (not supplied).”
- Select optical audio on the TV and soundbar. Set the TV’s sound output to its external or optical audio device, and select the soundbar’s optical input if needed. Menu names and navigation differ by TV model; consult the TV’s manual for the exact controls.
- Adjust the digital audio format if needed. For Dolby Digital encoded broadcast audio, Samsung recommends changing the TV’s digital output audio format from PCM to Dolby Digital. TV manufacturers may use different labels for these settings, so check the TV’s audio or sound-output menu.
Samsung’s HW-T400 manual documents the optical connection and recommends Dolby Digital for Dolby Digital encoded broadcast audio. Use the HW-T400 support page to find the manual; use your TV’s manual for its specific menu path.

Pair the HW-T400 with a TV over Bluetooth
- Put the soundbar in pairing mode. Change its mode to “Bluetooth Pairing.”
- Open the TV’s Bluetooth audio menu. Use the TV’s Bluetooth settings to search for an audio device. The manual shows the soundbar listed as [AV] Samsung Soundbar T400 T-Series.
- Select the soundbar. Choose that listing in the TV menu and complete any on-screen confirmation.
- Check the connection. The manual says, “The blue LED should not be blinking once the Bluetooth connection is complete.”
The TV’s Bluetooth menus vary by manufacturer and model. Samsung qualifies Bluetooth TV connection as available only on select Samsung TVs; check your TV’s manual or specifications if the soundbar does not appear.

Fix a failed pairing or missing TV audio
The TV cannot find or connect to the soundbar
- Confirm the soundbar is in “Bluetooth Pairing” mode, then search again from the TV’s Bluetooth menu.
- If the TV shows an old soundbar entry, delete or forget that entry and repeat pairing.
- Check whether another TV or Bluetooth device is already connected. The HW-T400 supports one connected TV or Bluetooth device at a time.
- If the soundbar still does not appear, verify that the TV supports Bluetooth audio connection to this soundbar. Samsung describes that capability as limited to select Samsung TVs.
The TV shows a connection, but there is no sound over optical
- Check that the cable runs from the TV’s optical output to the soundbar’s DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port, and that the optical input is selected on the soundbar.
- Confirm the TV is sending sound to its external or optical audio output rather than its built-in speakers.
- For Dolby Digital encoded broadcast audio, change the TV’s digital output format from PCM to Dolby Digital as Samsung recommends. The setting name varies by TV manufacturer.
Can your Samsung TV remote control the soundbar?
Samsung’s manual limits its TV-remote guidance to selected Samsung televisions: 2017-and-later Samsung Smart TVs that support Bluetooth, when the HW-T400 is connected with an optical cable. This is not a guarantee of compatibility with every Samsung TV or with other brands. Consult the TV’s manual for model-specific remote and audio settings.
