Before you start
Samsung Canada’s 2026 Galaxy SmartTag3 product page says the SmartThings app is required. It lists Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 12 or later, and iOS devices running iOS 17 or later, as compatible. These requirements are specific to Samsung Canada’s listing; check Samsung’s page for your country and your device because available features can vary by platform.

- Install or update the SmartThings app.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the phone or tablet you plan to use.
- Keep the tag nearby while adding it.
Use SmartThings to add the tag rather than trying to pair it from the phone’s general Bluetooth settings. Samsung’s setup guidance directs users to add SmartTags through the app.

Set up the SmartTag3 in SmartThings
Samsung’s published pairing steps cover the SmartTag family, not a SmartTag3-specific walkthrough with current app screenshots. The prompts and menu labels may therefore differ by app version, region, or software release.

Find the tag after setup
Open SmartThings Find or the tag’s device view in SmartThings and select the SmartTag3. Samsung’s SmartTag-family support guidance describes map and nearby search options. If the tag is close enough to connect, use the ring option to help locate it by sound.
Compatibility and finding features
Compatibility with the app does not mean every feature works on every supported platform. Samsung Canada says Compass View is available on Galaxy devices that support UWB or Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding. Its product-page information also says Compass View and Notify When Left Behind are not supported on iOS. Check Samsung’s current local product information for the exact features available with your device.
