First confirm which phone you actually have: “Galaxy F70” is not a single, unambiguous model name in Samsung’s official catalog. Check Settings → About phone → Model name and Model number before following model-specific prompts. Once identified, use Samsung Smart Switch during setup to copy personal data from an Android phone, another Galaxy, or an iPhone/iPad. Wireless transfer is convenient when both phones are charged, updated, nearby and connected; a compatible USB data cable and adapter are the dependable fallback.
Confirm the exact Galaxy model before you start
Samsung’s official listings use several similar names. Its support catalog includes SM-F700F/DS, while separate official pages use Galaxy F70e 5G and Galaxy F70 Pro 5G. Availability and menus can vary by region and edition, so do not assume that an instruction for one F70 variant applies to another.

- Turn on the phone and open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Record the displayed Model name and Model number.
- Use those details if a support article, accessory listing or service representative asks you to identify the device.
The Smart Switch workflow below is the common Samsung route, but the exact wording of a button can differ slightly by software version, source phone and country.

- Keep the old phone switched on and unlocked.
- Charge the new phone fully or to at least 50 percent. Samsung’s wireless-transfer troubleshooting guidance specifically calls for at least 50 percent battery on the new phone.
- Install or update Smart Switch on both devices.
- Turn on Bluetooth.
- For wireless transfer, connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network, or make sure the available mobile-data connection is sufficient for the process.
- Place the phones close together—Samsung recommends within about 4 inches while they pair and transfer.
- Keep the old phone available. Do not erase or trade it in until you have checked important accounts, messages and security applications on the new phone.
If the old phone has a different charging connector, identify its port now. A USB-C-to-USB-C data cable works when both phones have USB-C ports; an older phone may require a compatible USB adapter or OTG connector. Confirm that any cable supports data, not only charging.
Set up the new Galaxy for the first time
- Turn on the Galaxy and select your language.
- Tap Start.
- Read and accept the displayed terms and conditions.
- When the phone asks whether to copy data from an old device, choose the source type: Galaxy/Android for an Android phone or iPhone/iPad for an Apple device.
- If Samsung offers QR-code quick setup, scan the code with the old phone and follow the on-screen prompts.
- At the Smart Switch step, choose Wireless or Cable.
- Select the categories you want to copy, then tap Next or Transfer, depending on the screen.
- Leave both phones on and connected until the completion notice appears.
- Review the transfer summary before continuing through the rest of Android setup.
A QR-code route shown during first setup is not a shortcut you can safely recreate later. Samsung says Smart Switch can be run after setup, but returning to the QR-code first-setup route requires a factory reset; that reset erases data currently stored on the new phone.
Choose wireless or cable transfer
| Factor | Wireless | Cable |
|---|---|---|
| Reliability | Convenient when both phones meet Samsung’s battery, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and proximity requirements; pairing can fail in a crowded wireless environment. | Usually the better fallback when wireless pairing fails, provided the cable and adapter fit both phones and support data. |
| Accessories | No cable is required. | Requires the new phone’s USB cable and, for some older phones, a compatible USB connector or OTG adapter. |
| Setup speed | Simple to start, but speed depends on wireless conditions and the amount of content. | Direct phone-to-phone connection; the transfer still takes time for large photo or video libraries. |
| Phone proximity | Keep the phones within about 4 inches during pairing and transfer. | Keep the cable connected and avoid moving either phone until completion. |
| Old-phone compatibility | Works across supported Galaxy/Android and iPhone/iPad choices, subject to platform limits. | Depends on the ports, adapter and operating-system support on both devices. |

- On the old phone, open Smart Switch and select Send data, then Wireless.
- On the new Galaxy, open the Smart Switch transfer screen and choose Receive data.
- Select Galaxy/Android or iPhone/iPad, according to the old phone, and tap Wireless.
- Approve the connection request on the old phone.
- On the new phone, review the available categories and select what you want to copy.
- Tap Transfer.
- Keep both phones close, powered on and untouched until Smart Switch reports that it is finished.
- Tap Done when the completion screen appears, then review the summary.
Other nearby phones running Smart Switch can confuse pairing. Move them away while the two intended devices connect.
Transfer with a USB cable
Cable transfer is useful when wireless pairing will not complete or when you want a direct connection. Samsung’s manual instructions call for the new phone’s USB cable; a USB connector may be needed for the previous device.
- Connect the new Galaxy and the old phone with a compatible USB data cable. Add the appropriate adapter or OTG connector if the ports differ.
- When Smart Switch appears on the new phone, choose Receive data.
- On the old phone, tap Connect when prompted.
- On the new Galaxy, select the categories to copy.
- Follow the prompts and start the transfer.
- Leave the cable connected until the completion notice. Do not disconnect it during transfer: Samsung warns that an interruption can cause data loss or device damage.
If the phone only charges and Smart Switch does not appear, unplug and reconnect both ends, try a known data-capable cable, check that the adapter is fully seated, and unlock the old phone so it can approve the connection.

Moving data from an iPhone or iPad
Choose iPhone/iPad as the source when Smart Switch asks what kind of old device you have. The available categories and transfer behavior differ from an Android-to-Galaxy move, so review the category list rather than assuming that every Apple app or setting has an Android equivalent.
- On the new Galaxy, select Receive data → iPhone/iPad.
- Choose Wireless if the displayed prompts support a wireless connection, or use a suitable cable and adapter for a wired connection.
- Approve any connection request on the Apple device.
- Choose the categories shown by Smart Switch and start the transfer.
- Keep both devices connected until the completion message and inspect the summary.
Apple-specific app data, protected content and settings may not be transferable. Plan to reinstall required Android versions of your apps and sign in to them manually.
What Smart Switch can transfer—and what it cannot promise
Samsung lists the following among the categories Smart Switch may move: contacts, schedules and calendars, messages, memos, photos, videos, music, call logs, documents, app-installation recommendations and selected settings.

The exact list depends on whether the source is another Galaxy, a different Android phone, or iOS/iCloud. Platform restrictions, app security rules and compatibility requirements can prevent some content from moving. Smart Switch moves much of your personal content, but it does not guarantee that every app, login, protected folder or app-specific setting will transfer.
Items that deserve a manual check
- Contacts: Open the Contacts app and confirm the expected accounts and contact count.
- Photos and videos: Browse recent and older folders, including any albums you rely on.
- Messages and call history: Check recent conversations and important older threads.
- Authenticator and two-factor authentication: Confirm that codes work before signing out of the old phone.
- Banking and payment apps: Reinstall or reauthorize them according to each provider’s security process.
- Work, school and password-manager apps: Expect to sign in again and complete any device approval.
- Protected or private folders: Verify their contents separately; security restrictions can block a direct copy.
- App-specific downloads and settings: Open critical apps and check offline files, notification settings and saved preferences.
Finish the setup and verify before wiping the old phone
After Smart Switch completes, continue the normal Galaxy setup—network connection, account sign-in, screen lock and software updates—then perform a deliberate audit.
- Open Settings → About phone and confirm the model name and number you recorded.
- Install any available system and Smart Switch updates.
- Check contacts, calendars, messages, photos, videos, documents and call logs.
- Open the authenticator, banking, work and password-manager apps you need most.
- Test calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and notifications.
- Confirm that two-factor authentication works on the new phone.
- Only after these checks should you back up the new phone and consider erasing the old one.
A transfer summary is evidence that Smart Switch completed its selected categories; it is not proof that every account session or protected app state was restored.

Troubleshoot a wireless connection that will not start
The phones cannot find each other
- Confirm both phones are switched on, unlocked and within about 4 inches.
- Check that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices.
- Put both phones on the same Wi-Fi network, or verify that the available mobile-data connection is sufficient.
- Make sure Smart Switch is installed and updated on both phones.
- Move other nearby phones running Smart Switch away from the pair.
- Restart both phones and try the Send data → Wireless and Receive data → Galaxy/Android or iPhone/iPad → Wireless sequence again.
The transfer stops or takes an unusually long time
- Keep the phones close and connected to power where practical.
- Check that the new phone still has at least 50 percent battery or connect it to a charger.
- Reduce interference by moving away from other active Smart Switch sessions.
- Restart both devices, reopen Smart Switch and select the categories again.
- If wireless pairing repeatedly fails, switch to a cable and the correct adapter.
Only some content appears
Review the categories selected on the new phone and remember that source platform, app compatibility and security rules limit what Smart Switch can copy. Reinstall missing apps from the appropriate app store and complete their sign-in or verification steps manually. Do not erase the old phone until those steps are complete.
When to use a cable instead of resetting the phone
If the phone has already finished setup, you can open Smart Switch later and run a transfer without resetting it. A factory reset is only needed to return to the QR-code first-setup route, and it erases current data on the new Galaxy. Before considering a reset, back up anything already on the new phone and try the in-device Smart Switch screen or a cable transfer instead.
Practical cable and adapter checklist
- Both connectors must physically match the two phones.
- The cable must support data transfer, not merely charging.
- An older phone with a different connector may need a compatible USB adapter or OTG connector.
- Use the new Galaxy’s supplied USB cable when possible, as Samsung’s manual specifically describes that cable for Smart Switch.
- Do not disconnect, bend or tug the cable while data is moving.
- After completion, inspect the transfer summary before unplugging.
The safest handoff from old phone to new Galaxy
Identify the exact F70 variant, prepare both phones, run Smart Switch with the source type selected correctly, and verify critical data before wiping anything. Wireless is the simplest option when Samsung’s proximity, battery, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and software requirements are met. A properly fitted USB-C data cable or adapter is the practical recovery path when wireless pairing fails. Treat logins, authenticator codes, banking apps, protected folders and app-specific settings as separate verification tasks rather than assuming that a completed transfer restored them automatically.
