To set up a Roku Select Series TV, turn it on and follow Guided Setup: choose your language and country, select Set up for home use, connect to your Wi-Fi network, install the Roku OS update, then sign in to or create a Roku account. Have your Wi-Fi name and password ready before you begin.

What to have ready

  • Your Roku Select Series TV and included remote.
  • A power outlet.
  • Your home Wi-Fi network name and password.

Other devices, such as a game console or cable box, are optional and can be connected after the TV is set up. Roku’s US setup guide covers the initial process.

Set up the TV and remote

  1. Attach the included stands or mount the TV, then plug it into power. If installing the stands, Roku advises pressing the screws with sufficient pressure as you turn them so they self-thread into the plastic.
  2. Turn on the TV with the remote. Guided Setup starts after the startup screen.
  3. Prepare the remote if needed. Remove any battery pull-tab and insert fresh, matching batteries if the remote uses disposable batteries. A rechargeable remote is ready out of the box. If an on-screen prompt asks you to pair a voice remote, follow its directions. Remote details can vary; check the included remote rather than assuming a battery size.
  4. Choose your language and the country where you are using the TV. Select Set up for home use, not store demo mode.

Connect the Roku TV to Wi-Fi

  1. Choose your home wireless network from the list.
  2. Enter the Wi-Fi password. Select Show password if you want to check what you typed; passwords are case-sensitive.
  3. If your network does not appear, choose Scan again.

After a successful connection, the TV automatically downloads the latest Roku OS updates and restarts. Keep it powered on while that completes.

Link your Roku account

When prompted after the update, sign in to an existing Roku account or create one. Roku says account creation is free in its US setup guide. Linking the TV enables Roku account features such as the channel store and personalization.

Connect other devices if you use them

You can connect a cable box, Blu-ray player, game console, or sound system to the TV’s HDMI or AV ports. If the TV asks to detect connected devices, turn each one on; the TV can then identify it and assign an input name. For broadcast television, connect an antenna to the Live TV input and run a channel scan.

You do not have home Wi-Fi available

Roku’s connection guidance describes using a phone hotspot as an alternative. Streaming and software updates can consume substantial mobile data, so check your wireless provider’s data limits before using one.

Can you use the TV without internet?

Roku says its branded TVs require internet to complete setup and receive updates. After setup, you can disconnect from the internet and use HDMI-connected devices or antenna Live TV; streaming services still need an internet connection.
