One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThe correct setup depends first on the exact controller edition. A CRKD Xbox guitar needs its input slider on XB, its mode dial on Mode 1, and CRKD’s separately enabled Festival Mode. Other CRKD editions may use direct compatibility or KeyJam Mode instead. A PDP Riffmaster must be configured from PDP’s support instructions for the matching console edition; its button sequence, wireless procedure, and calibration steps should not be guessed across platforms.
Use the checks below to identify the right branch before opening Fortnite Festival. The distinction between Xbox Festival Mode, CRKD KeyJam Mode, and a normal controller profile is the most common reason an apparently functional guitar is not recognized correctly.

Choose the setup path before changing any settings
Read the label, packaging, or model documentation and identify both the hardware family and the platform edition. “CRKD guitar” is not one universal configuration: CRKD documents different routes for its Xbox, PlayStation, multi-platform, and other platform versions. The PDP Riffmaster also has edition-specific support documentation.
| Controller or route | Platform scope documented by the manufacturer | Mode or configuration that matters |
|---|---|---|
| CRKD Xbox guitar | Xbox edition | Festival Mode requires the input slider at XB and the mode dial at Mode 1. |
| CRKD multi-platform guitar | PC, PC handhelds, Switch 1/2, and Android for the listed direct-compatibility route | Use the edition’s current manual and compatibility chart; do not apply the Xbox sequence automatically. |
| CRKD KeyJam route | PS5, PS4, Xbox One/Series, and PC are listed under KeyJam Mode | Set the input slider to PC; the relevant dial position enables KeyJam Mode, which presents the guitar as a gaming keyboard and mouse. |
| PDP Riffmaster | The official support result identified an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC article; PlayStation instructions must match the PlayStation edition | Follow PDP’s support article for the exact edition. Pairing, dongle, firmware, calibration, and in-game steps are edition-specific. |
Do not treat a compatibility-chart entry as proof that every mode works on every edition. CRKD lists direct compatibility and KeyJam compatibility as separate configurations, and the slider and dial positions are part of the setup.

Prepare the controller and platform
- Confirm the console or device and the exact guitar edition before powering it on.
- Have the controller’s current official manual available. This is especially important for CRKD models other than the Xbox guitar and for any PDP Riffmaster edition.
- Charge or connect the controller as specified by its manufacturer, and keep any required wireless receiver available.
- If you suspect a firmware problem, identify the correct CRKD updater family or open PDP’s matching support page before changing modes.
- Do not infer a PlayStation, Switch, PC, or Xbox procedure from a different edition simply because the exterior guitar looks similar.
Use a clean connection order
Make one change at a time so you can tell which setting fixed the problem. First identify the edition, then set the physical slider and dial, then enable the documented mode, and only afterward connect the receiver or wireless link. Start Fortnite Festival after the controller has completed its own startup and pairing sequence. If the game is already running while you change modes, close and relaunch it so it can enumerate the controller profile again.
For a CRKD guitar, record the LED result you see at startup. Purple and teal flashes have a specific meaning on the Xbox Festival path, while another edition may use different indicators. Avoid repeatedly switching modes while the guitar is connected; power it off first and perform the complete toggle sequence.
Set up a CRKD Xbox guitar in Festival Mode
CRKD’s Xbox guitar has a dedicated Festival Mode, but it is opt-in rather than the factory default. CRKD says the mode is compatible only when the input slider is set to XB and the mode dial is at Mode 1.
1. Set the physical controls
- Turn the guitar completely off.
- Move the input slider to XB.
- Set the mode dial to Mode 1.
- Check those positions again before powering on. Festival Mode is not documented for another slider or dial combination.
2. Enable Festival Mode
- With the guitar still off, press and hold the CTRL button.
- While holding CTRL, power the guitar on.
- Watch the status light. Two purple LED flashes indicate that Festival Mode is enabled.
- Release the button after the startup indication and connect the guitar using the Xbox setup described for your controller.
The purple flashes are the confirmation; the mode is not enabled merely by selecting XB and Mode 1. If you did not see the two-purple-flash indication, turn the guitar off and repeat the sequence rather than assuming it worked.
3. Return to standard mode when needed
- Power the guitar off.
- Hold CTRL while powering it on again.
- Two teal flashes indicate that standard mode has been restored.
The same off, hold-CTRL, power-on action toggles between the two profiles. Purple means Festival Mode; teal means standard mode.
What changes in Festival Mode
CRKD states that Festival Mode disables app customization for the fret, strum, whammy, CTRL, and tilt inputs so the controller can operate compatibly. D-pad inputs remain customizable. If an app profile appears unable to edit those guitar controls while Festival Mode is active, that is an intentional limitation rather than evidence that the controller has failed.
This also explains why a profile that worked in standard mode can appear different after the toggle. Do not try to restore fret or strum remapping from the app while testing Festival Mode; those controls are deliberately fixed for compatibility. Use the D-pad only for app adjustments that CRKD still permits, then retest the instrument.

Use the correct CRKD route on other editions
Direct compatibility on the multi-platform chart
CRKD’s compatibility chart lists Fortnite Festival for its multi-platform controller on PC, PC handhelds including Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Legion Go, Switch 1/2, and Android devices. Those entries are a platform-and-edition statement, not instructions to activate the Xbox guitar’s Festival Mode. Use the slider and dial positions specified for the exact model in its current official instructions.
On a handheld PC, treat the handheld as a PC entry only when the chart lists that device family. A Switch listing does not automatically cover a different Switch input profile, and an Android listing does not establish compatibility with every phone or tablet. Confirm the edition first, then use the connection method and controls shown for that model.
KeyJam Mode for the separately listed platforms
The same chart separately lists Fortnite Festival on PS5, PS4, Xbox One/Xbox Series, and PC under KeyJam Mode. CRKD’s firmware notes explain that the guitar enters KeyJam Mode at the relevant dial position when the input slider is set to PC. In that configuration, the guitar is mapped as a gaming keyboard and mouse rather than presented as the Xbox Festival profile.
- Identify that your guitar edition supports the KeyJam listing for your platform.
- Move the input slider to PC.
- Set the mode dial to the position identified as KeyJam Mode in the current manual. CRKD documentation refers to Mode 9 becoming KeyJam Mode with the PC slider, but do not assume that label applies to a different hardware edition without checking its instructions.
- Complete the connection procedure for that platform, then test the guitar in Fortnite Festival.
Do not combine the Xbox recipe with KeyJam Mode. The Xbox recipe uses XB plus Mode 1 and produces purple or teal Festival/standard indications; KeyJam uses the PC input path and a different mapping model.

Why the exact manual matters
Mode numbers, slider labels, firmware families, and compatibility can vary by guitar edition. A PS5 or multi-platform guitar may be listed for Festival through KeyJam while an Xbox edition has a dedicated Festival Mode. If your controller has no XB slider, no Mode 1 position, or a different LED vocabulary, stop and use the manual for that model instead of repeating the Xbox sequence.
Check CRKD firmware before troubleshooting connection failures
CRKD provides separate Windows updaters for PlayStation, multi-platform, and Xbox guitar controllers. The updater is for a Windows PC. The firmware page captured for this guide listed v2.4 for PlayStation, v3.3 for multi-platform, and v3.2 for Xbox; those numbers are changeable, so verify the current listing immediately before updating.
Firmware numbers are identifiers, not universal targets. Match the package to the guitar family shown by CRKD, and do not install a newer-looking package from another family simply because its number is higher. If the listing has changed, use the current number and instructions displayed for your model.

Xbox app update and automatic dongle update
- Update the CRKD app first, as CRKD instructs for the Xbox guitar.
- Use the app to update the guitar.
- When the guitar reconnects and pairs, the app can trigger an automatic dongle update.
- Watch for the dongle’s fast green blinking during that process.
- Do not unplug, power off, or otherwise interrupt the dongle update while it is in progress.
The dongle update is a separate stage that can begin when the updated guitar reconnects. A guitar update is therefore not necessarily the end of the process. Allow the fast green blinking to stop before moving the receiver or launching the game.
Windows updater route
If you use CRKD’s Windows updater instead of the app workflow, update the guitar and the dongle separately. Select the updater that matches the controller family; using a PlayStation or multi-platform package for an Xbox guitar is not a safe substitute. Follow the on-screen completion messages for each device before disconnecting it.
Set up a PDP Riffmaster without guessing the sequence
An official PDP support article identified for this guide covers the RIFFMASTER Wireless Guitar Controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The article itself was not available in the material reviewed, so exact pairing buttons, receiver behavior, firmware instructions, calibration controls, and Fortnite menu steps are not verified here.
Safe Riffmaster workflow
- Identify whether your Riffmaster is the Xbox/Windows edition or a PlayStation edition.
- Open PDP’s official support page for that exact edition and platform combination.
- Follow PDP’s documented power, wireless, receiver, firmware, and calibration sequence in the order shown there.
- Only after the controller’s own setup is complete, start Fortnite Festival and test whether its guitar inputs register.
- If the guitar is not detected, return to the same PDP article and verify the edition, connection method, and any required calibration rather than applying a CRKD mode sequence.
There is no verified universal Riffmaster button sequence that can safely be copied between Xbox, Windows, and PlayStation hardware. A Riffmaster does not use CRKD’s XB slider, Mode 1 Festival Mode, purple LED indication, or KeyJam mapping.
Keep the Riffmaster branch separate even if both products are marketed as guitar controllers. A receiver, console switch, firmware utility, or calibration command that belongs to one edition may be absent on another. If PDP’s page presents separate Xbox and PlayStation articles, use the one whose model name and platform match the hardware in your hands.
Test recognition in Fortnite Festival
After the manufacturer-specific setup is complete, open Fortnite Festival and test the guitar’s fret and strum controls in a playable Festival session. If the game does not respond, shut the controller down and return to the decision points that distinguish the hardware:
- CRKD Xbox: slider XB, dial Mode 1, and two purple flashes after the hold-CTRL startup.
- CRKD KeyJam: slider PC and the KeyJam dial position documented for that model.
- CRKD direct-compatibility route: the exact edition must appear on the current chart for your platform.
- PDP Riffmaster: the support article must match the console edition; do not substitute CRKD instructions.
Test more than one control. Confirm at least a fret input and a strum input, then try the whammy or tilt control if the mode allows it. A controller that powers on is not necessarily mapped correctly. If only some inputs work, recheck the selected mode and firmware family before changing Fortnite settings.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| Symptom | Most useful check | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| CRKD Xbox guitar powers on but Festival inputs do not work | Power it off, verify XB and Mode 1, then hold CTRL while powering on and confirm two purple flashes. | Do not assume that the factory profile is already Festival Mode; CRKD says it is user-enabled. |
| Two teal flashes appear | Repeat the off/hold-CTRL/power-on sequence to toggle back to Festival Mode and look for purple flashes. | Teal is not the Festival confirmation; it indicates standard mode. |
| CRKD app controls seem locked | Check whether Festival Mode is active. | CRKD intentionally disables app customization of fret, strum, whammy, CTRL, and tilt in that mode; D-pad customization remains available. |
| A non-Xbox CRKD guitar is not recognized | Check the exact model’s chart entry, slider, and dial. For a KeyJam listing, verify the PC slider and KeyJam position. | Do not use the Xbox XB/Mode 1 recipe on another edition. |
| Dongle is fast-blinking green during an Xbox update | Leave the guitar connected and wait for the automatic dongle update to finish. | Do not interrupt the process or disconnect the dongle. |
| Windows firmware update completed for the guitar but connection remains faulty | Confirm that the dongle was also updated separately when using the Windows updater. | A guitar-only update does not prove that the dongle is current. |
| Riffmaster is not detected | Verify the console edition and follow PDP’s matching support article from the beginning, including its connection and calibration instructions. | Do not copy a CRKD procedure or an unverified community button sequence. |
| CRKD hardware or mode problems remain unresolved | Use CRKD’s official support channel. Epic’s support page for the CRKD x Fortnite Festival controller directs users to CRKD support. | Epic’s page does not supply a separate troubleshooting procedure to substitute for CRKD’s instructions. |
CRKD versus PDP: the practical difference
| Decision point | CRKD | PDP Riffmaster |
|---|---|---|
| Edition check | Essential: Xbox, multi-platform, PlayStation, and other editions can have different routes. | Essential: use the support article for the exact console edition. |
| Festival-specific profile | Xbox edition has an opt-in Festival Mode; other listings may use direct compatibility or KeyJam. | No verified universal Festival profile is established here. |
| Physical controls | Xbox Festival Mode requires XB slider plus Mode 1; KeyJam uses the PC slider and its model-specific dial position. | Use PDP’s documented controls; CRKD slider and dial instructions do not apply. |
| Firmware path | Separate updater families; Xbox app updates can lead to an automatic dongle update, while Windows updates guitar and dongle separately. | Follow the current PDP article for the matching edition; specific firmware steps are not verified here. |
| Support escalation | CRKD support is the manufacturer route; Epic directs CRKD-controller issues there. | PDP’s official support documentation is the appropriate source for Riffmaster setup. |
Final checklist
- You know the exact guitar edition and the platform you are using.
- You have not mixed CRKD Xbox Festival Mode instructions with KeyJam or direct-compatibility instructions.
- For a CRKD Xbox guitar, the slider is XB, the dial is Mode 1, and startup produced two purple flashes.
- For a KeyJam setup, the slider is PC and the dial position comes from the current model manual.
- Firmware packages match the controller family, and any dongle update is allowed to finish without interruption.
- For a PDP Riffmaster, you followed PDP’s article for the exact edition instead of relying on an unverified sequence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CRKD Festival Mode enabled by default on Xbox?
No. CRKD says it is opt-in. With the guitar off, set the slider to XB and the dial to Mode 1, hold CTRL while powering on, and look for two purple flashes.
What do two teal flashes mean on a CRKD Xbox guitar?
Two teal flashes indicate standard mode. Repeat the off, hold-CTRL, power-on sequence and look for two purple flashes to return to Festival Mode.
Can I use the Xbox CRKD setup on a PlayStation or multi-platform guitar?
No. Those editions may use direct compatibility or KeyJam Mode. Check the exact model manual and chart; KeyJam uses the PC slider and its documented dial position.
Why can’t I remap frets or strum in the CRKD app?
When Xbox Festival Mode is active, CRKD disables app customization for fret, strum, whammy, CTRL, and tilt inputs. D-pad inputs remain customizable.
Do I need to update the CRKD dongle separately?
It depends on the method. The Xbox app can trigger an automatic dongle update when the guitar reconnects; with the Windows updater, CRKD says to update the guitar and dongle separately. Never interrupt a fast green dongle update.
What should I do if my PDP Riffmaster is not detected?
Confirm the exact Xbox/Windows or PlayStation edition, then follow PDP’s matching official support article from the beginning, including its connection and calibration steps. Do not substitute CRKD instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Bottom Line
Match the setup to the exact hardware. A CRKD Xbox guitar needs XB, Mode 1, and two purple Festival Mode flashes; other CRKD models may require KeyJam or direct compatibility. For a PDP Riffmaster, use PDP’s support instructions for the matching edition rather than copying another controller’s sequence.
