To set up a new Realme phone and move data from an old device, complete the on-screen first-boot prompts, then use Realme’s Clone Phone app for a direct transfer. If the old phone is unavailable or the transfer misses something, use a local or Google backup where available. Check the new phone and any separate backup before erasing the old one; labels and options vary by model, realme UI version, and region.
Prepare both phones before transferring data
Charge both devices and keep them close together for Clone Phone. Realme advises keeping the battery above 50% during backup and not powering off or restarting a phone while a backup is running. If the data is important, make a separate backup before starting.

- Keep the old phone accessible, unlocked, and connected to a network if the transfer method requires it.
- Do not reset, flash, trade in, or otherwise erase the old phone until you have checked the new phone and any separate backup.
- If you create a local backup on the old phone, copy it to a computer or other storage. A backup kept only on the phone may be erased if that phone is reset or flashed.
Realme’s backup and restore instructions warn that a reset erases phone data and that on-device backups are not protected from that loss.
Complete the new Realme phone’s first setup
Turn on the new phone and follow the prompts on its screen. Realme’s first-boot setup guide describes connecting to Wi-Fi, choosing an unlock method, optionally signing in to a HeyTap account, deciding whether to import data, and personalizing the phone before completing startup.

Some steps can be skipped and revisited later. The exact order, button names, and availability may differ by device, software version, or region, so follow the prompts shown on your phone rather than expecting every screen to match the guide.
Transfer data with Clone Phone
Clone Phone is Realme’s direct phone-to-phone transfer option. Realme says it can transfer personal data, system data, applications and application data, and media or files, including photos, videos, audio, and documents. That is the manufacturer’s description of supported categories, not a guarantee that every third-party app or its private data will migrate completely. Check banking, messaging, authenticator, and other important apps individually after transfer.
- Make sure Clone Phone is available on both devices. On the new Realme phone, open Tools > Clone Phone and choose New phone. Menu names may differ by app or software version.
- On the old phone, open Clone Phone, choose Old phone, and scan the QR code displayed on the new phone. Follow any connection or permission prompts on either device.
- Keep the phones close together while the transfer runs. Realme’s Clone Phone instructions emphasize proximity to maintain the connection.
- When it finishes, inspect the new phone for the contacts, messages, files, and app access you need before retiring the old device.
Choose a backup alternative if direct transfer is not suitable
Realme documents both local backups and Google backups. The right option depends on whether you can use the old phone, whether a Google backup already exists, and which data you need to recover.

Make a local backup
Local backup menu paths depend on the realme UI generation. In Realme’s EU guidance, versions 3.0 through 7.0 use a route under System/Additional settings and Back up and reset; realme UI 2.0 uses a different route. Use your phone’s Settings search for “backup” if these labels do not appear. After creating a local backup, copy its file to a computer or other storage before resetting the old phone. The backup does not include app data, so check app-specific recovery options separately.
Use Google backup
Realme’s backup guide describes managing device backups through Google One. During a new phone’s initial setup, use the Google account associated with the backup and select the available restore option when prompted. Realme says backed-up photos and videos are already available in Google Photos; other backed-up data is restored during initial setup or after a factory reset. The stated “up to 24 hours” is Realme’s restoration guidance, not a promise that every restore takes that long.

If the transfer fails or disconnects, Realme recommends confirming that you are using the Realme Clone Phone app, checking the old phone’s automatic Wi-Fi switching setting, and reconnecting the devices.

- On the old phone, look in Wi-Fi or network settings for Auto connect to the best Wi-Fi and turn it off if enabled. The setting’s location and exact label can vary.
- Reconnect the devices through Clone Phone and follow the pairing prompts again.
- Resume the transfer. Realme says Clone Phone saves the last progress so the transfer can continue from there.

Before resetting or handing over the old device, check the things that are hardest to replace: contact details, recent messages, photos and documents, access to important accounts, and any app data that matters to you. For apps with their own sign-in, backup, or device-transfer process, complete that process directly; Clone Phone’s broad app-transfer category does not establish that each app’s private data or account session will carry over.
