Turn on Battery saver when needed
Windows Battery saver is a straightforward option when you want to extend runtime and can accept less background activity. Its location can vary with Windows version; use Windows Settings search for “Battery saver” if the menu path on your installation differs.

Find apps using unusually large amounts of battery
Open Windows Power Options and expand Battery usage, then Battery usage per app. Review the ranked list. Close or adjust only apps you recognize and do not need; a high reading alone is not a reason to stop an unfamiliar process.

Disable connectivity only when you can work offline
Turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth when you do not need them. Airplane Mode is another option when internet access is unnecessary, but it cuts off access to online files and services while enabled.

Check the Dell utility supported by your exact system
Dell says XPS power-management functions are integrated into MyDell, with features depending on the device. Use Dell’s support page for your service tag and model to find the supported application and available battery settings. Do not assume every XPS 13 supports the same features.

Why battery life differs between XPS 13 models
Runtime depends on the laptop’s configuration and use. Display type, workload, brightness, wireless activity, background software, and system configuration all affect how quickly the battery drains. Dell’s illustrative OLED example is not a universal runtime benchmark, so compare your laptop only under similar conditions rather than expecting a guaranteed number of hours.
Charging limits and BIOS settings are model-specific
Do not assume a new XPS 13 has a particular charge limit, longevity mode, or BIOS menu. Dell’s older XPS 13 9305 manual describes longevity and desktop charging modes, while noting that they may not be supported on every laptop. The XPS 13 9310 service manual separately documents BIOS battery and advanced charge configuration. These examples show why instructions must match the exact generation, rather than being applied to every XPS 13: XPS 13 9305 charging modes and XPS 13 9310 BIOS options.

For XPS systems, Dell identifies MyDell as the current destination for supported power-management functions; available controls depend on the specific device. Check what is installed or listed for your service tag before looking for a charge policy.
When to consider an advanced performance setting
Dell documents disabling Intel Turbo Boost as a possible way to improve runtime, with reduced maximum performance as the tradeoff. Treat it as optional, not a first-day default. BIOS options vary by model, so consult the manual for the exact XPS generation before changing this setting.

What to check if a new XPS 13 drains unusually fast

Compare similar usage
Note the workload, screen brightness, display type, network use, and background applications. A short first-day observation under demanding or changing conditions is not enough to establish a battery fault.

Look for software consuming power
Review Windows’ per-app battery usage and Task Manager’s power-usage indicators for obvious high-consumption apps. Close or change only software you understand.

Check for underlying issues if settings do not explain the drain
Dell lists background processes, outdated software, battery wear, and incorrect power settings among possible causes of faster-than-expected drain.
