How to Set Up a Logitech Mouse and Keyboard on a Chromebook

For basic use, connect a Logitech mouse and keyboard from ChromeOS Bluetooth settings; you do not need to assume that Logitech desktop software is required. Open the Chromebook’s status area, enable Bluetooth, choose Manage devices and Add Bluetooth device, then pair each peripheral. A USB receiver can also work, but its procedure depends on the Logitech model and receiver family. The Logitech Pebble 2 Combo has a documented ChromeOS setup for both Bluetooth and its included Logi Bolt receiver.

What “controller” means in this setup

In this context, “mouse and keyboard controller” means using a Logitech mouse and keyboard to control the Chromebook’s pointer, text entry and ChromeOS shortcuts. The basic connection is handled by ChromeOS. You do not need to install a Logitech desktop configuration application merely to make compatible Bluetooth peripherals work.

Pair the mouse and keyboard as separate devices unless the instructions for your exact combo explicitly say that one receiver connects both. A combo’s shared receiver can simplify setup, but Bluetooth pairing normally creates one mouse entry and one keyboard entry in ChromeOS.

Before you start

  • Identify the exact model. Receiver type, keyboard-layout selection and pairing controls vary between Logitech products.
  • Check the connection method. Confirm whether the package supports Bluetooth, a USB receiver or both.
  • Check what is in the box. A receiver is not automatically included with every regional model or product configuration.
  • Prepare the peripherals. Turn on the mouse and keyboard and remove any battery or shipping pull tabs. Keep them close to the Chromebook during pairing.
  • Check the Chromebook’s hardware. Bluetooth must work for wireless Bluetooth pairing. A receiver requires a compatible USB port or an appropriate adapter.

Do not choose a connection method solely because it is described as faster or more reliable. The useful choice depends on whether Bluetooth works on your Chromebook, whether the available port accepts the receiver, whether the Logitech device supports that receiver family and whether a receiver is actually included.

Connect a Logitech mouse and keyboard over Bluetooth

1. Open ChromeOS Bluetooth settings

  1. Click the status area in the lower-right corner of the Chromebook shelf.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth if it is disabled.
  3. Open Manage devices.
  4. Choose Add Bluetooth device.

These are ChromeOS steps, not a Logitech desktop-software workflow. Logitech’s Chrome OS guidance uses the same Add Bluetooth device label.

2. Put the first peripheral into pairing mode

Turn on the mouse or keyboard and use its Bluetooth or connect control as described for that model. When the device appears in the Chromebook’s list, select the matching name and follow the on-screen instructions.

Pair one peripheral at a time. For example, select the mouse, wait for ChromeOS to finish connecting it, then repeat the process for the keyboard. This makes it clear which device has paired and avoids selecting the wrong entry when both are advertising at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Confirm the connection

Logitech says that after a successful pairing, the device LED stops blinking and glows steadily for about five seconds before switching off to save power. The Chromebook should also show the device as connected in its Bluetooth device list. Move the mouse and type in a text field to check both input paths.

4. Repeat for the second device

Return to Add Bluetooth device and select the other Logitech peripheral. A mouse and keyboard generally appear as two separate Bluetooth entries, even when sold together.

Use a USB receiver instead

Logitech Support states: “You can connect your device using either Bluetooth or our USB receiver.” The exact instructions still depend on the product and receiver family. A receiver is not a universal setup method, and the steps for one family should not be applied automatically to another.

General receiver guidance

Connect the receiver to a compatible USB port. Logitech’s general connection guidance says that most products begin pairing when you hold the device’s Connect button until the LED blinks rapidly. If your model does not enter pairing mode this way, use the exact product documentation rather than repeating the same sequence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Use the receiver supplied for the device, or verify explicitly that the receiver family is supported.
  • Make sure the receiver is fully inserted and that the Chromebook recognizes the port.
  • If the device has a Connect button, hold it only for the interval specified by the model’s instructions; the rapid-blink state indicates pairing mode in Logitech’s general guidance.
  • Pair the mouse and keyboard separately unless the combo’s instructions identify one receiver as connecting both.

Logitech Pebble 2 Combo: the documented Chromebook procedure

The Pebble 2 Combo has two documented connection options: its Logi Bolt receiver or Bluetooth Low Energy. Check the exact regional model before starting, because receiver inclusion and keyboard layouts can differ.

Option A: included Logi Bolt receiver

  1. Plug the included Logi Bolt receiver into the Chromebook.
  2. Remove the pull tabs from the keyboard and mouse.
  3. Select the ChromeOS keyboard layout with Fn+C.
  4. Test both the mouse and keyboard. If either does not respond, consult the Pebble 2 Combo instructions for that model rather than assuming every receiver uses the same pairing controls.

The Fn+C instruction is specific to the Pebble 2 Combo’s documented ChromeOS setup. Do not treat it as a universal shortcut for other Logitech keyboards.

Option B: Bluetooth Low Energy

  1. Turn on the Pebble 2 Combo keyboard and mouse.
  2. Open the Chromebook’s Bluetooth preferences from the status area.
  3. Select each matching Pebble 2 device when it appears.
  4. Follow ChromeOS’s on-screen pairing instructions and test both inputs.

If you cannot find the receiver in the package, do not assume it was omitted accidentally. Verify the exact regional model and its listed contents; Bluetooth may be the intended connection for that configuration.

Bluetooth or receiver: which should you choose?

Consideration Bluetooth USB receiver
Chromebook requirement Working Bluetooth and ChromeOS Bluetooth settings A compatible USB port or adapter
Setup location Manage devices > Add Bluetooth device Connect the receiver, then follow model-specific pairing instructions
Receiver included? Not required Must be included or otherwise confirmed compatible
Compatibility question Does the exact mouse or keyboard support Bluetooth? Does the device support this receiver family?
Keyboard layout Use the exact model’s ChromeOS instruction if one is provided The Pebble 2 Combo specifically documents Fn+C for ChromeOS
Best fit A Chromebook with working Bluetooth and no convenient receiver port A model with a documented receiver procedure and a suitable port

Neither method is universally better. Choose the one your Chromebook and exact Logitech model explicitly support.

What to do when pairing fails

The device never appears

  • Confirm Bluetooth is enabled in the Chromebook status area when using Bluetooth.
  • Turn the Logitech device off and on, then put it back into its model-specific pairing mode.
  • Move other Bluetooth devices away temporarily so the correct entry is easier to identify.
  • For a receiver, unplug it and reconnect it firmly to a compatible port.

The wrong device was selected

Cancel the attempt and reopen Add Bluetooth device. Select the entry that matches the mouse or keyboard you are holding. Pairing the mouse first and the keyboard second reduces ambiguity when both are nearby.

  • Want to play your favorite movie, skip a boring song, or jump to Taobao? It's all at your fingertips with the logitech keyboard wireless and 11 hot keys plus 4 programmable F-keys for instant multimedia access

The receiver does not pair

  • Verify that the receiver belongs to the correct receiver family for the product.
  • Check whether the receiver was included with your exact regional model.
  • Use the product’s documented Connect-button sequence if it has one; Logitech’s general rapid-blink instruction is not a substitute for model-specific documentation.
  • For a Pebble 2 Combo, confirm that you are following the Logi Bolt procedure and that the keyboard is set to the ChromeOS layout with Fn+C.

The keyboard types unexpected characters

Check the model’s ChromeOS keyboard-layout instruction. On the Pebble 2 Combo, Logitech specifies Fn+C. A layout mismatch can make the physical key markings and the characters produced by ChromeOS appear inconsistent even when the keyboard is connected.

The mouse or keyboard worked once and then stopped

Check whether the device is still shown as connected in ChromeOS Bluetooth settings. If it is not, repeat the pairing process. For receiver setups, verify that the receiver remains seated in the USB port and that the Chromebook is using the intended receiver rather than a different one.

Do you need Logitech configuration software?

For basic Bluetooth connection, no desktop configuration application is required by the ChromeOS setup described above. ChromeOS handles discovery and pairing through its own settings.

Logi Options+ lists supported Logitech mice and keyboards and the features available for those models. The support material does not establish that the Options+ application runs on ChromeOS. Therefore, do not promise advanced app-based button remapping, gesture assignment or other customization on a Chromebook unless Logitech documents support for the exact model and ChromeOS version you use.

  • Logitech DuoLink software links the mouse and keyboard together for custom functionality and smarter navigation. Download Logitech Options to enable this feature

Separate the two questions: first establish that the mouse and keyboard connect and provide normal input; only then investigate whether a particular customization feature is officially available on ChromeOS.

Practical setup checklist

  • Identify the exact Logitech model and region.
  • Decide whether Bluetooth or a receiver is supported and practical for this Chromebook.
  • Enable Bluetooth before searching for Bluetooth peripherals.
  • Use Manage devices and Add Bluetooth device for Bluetooth pairing.
  • Pair the mouse and keyboard separately unless the combo documentation says one receiver handles both.
  • For a Pebble 2 Combo receiver setup, plug in the included Logi Bolt receiver, remove the pull tabs and press Fn+C for the ChromeOS layout.
  • Confirm the mouse moves and the keyboard types before looking for optional customization.
  • If pairing fails, check the receiver family, included accessories, pairing mode and keyboard layout against the exact product documentation.

Buying or replacing a compatible combo

The Logitech Pebble 2 Combo is one option with manufacturer instructions that explicitly cover ChromeOS, Bluetooth Low Energy and Logi Bolt receiver use. Before purchasing or replacing one, verify the exact regional model and whether the receiver is included. Those two details determine whether the documented receiver procedure applies to the package you receive.

The Bottom Line

Start with ChromeOS Bluetooth settings: enable Bluetooth, open Manage devices, choose Add Bluetooth device, and pair the mouse and keyboard one at a time. Use a USB receiver only after confirming that your exact Logitech model and receiver family support it. For the Pebble 2 Combo, the documented receiver setup uses Logi Bolt and Fn+C for the ChromeOS keyboard layout.
