How to Set Up a Hatch Restore 3 Sunrise Alarm and Bedtime Routine

To set up a Hatch Restore 3, keep the clock plugged in, install the Hatch Sleep app, connect the device to 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi with Bluetooth enabled on your phone or tablet, and complete the in-app setup. You can then build separate Unwind, Sleep and Alarm routines, schedule a gradual sunrise, and run the finished bedtime routine from the Restore 3 itself without keeping your phone nearby.

What you need before setup

  • A Hatch Restore 3 and its power cable connected to a wall outlet. Hatch says the device should remain plugged in at all times.
  • A phone or tablet with Bluetooth enabled.
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network. The Restore 3 control guide specifies 2.4 GHz wireless internet for setup.
  • The Hatch Sleep app, installed from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

No extra accessory, replacement part, consumable or physical media is required by Hatch’s setup instructions. The clock is intended to stay connected to power, so plan its permanent location near an outlet rather than treating it as a portable alarm.

The app is required for first-time connection and for creating or changing routines and alarms. Once those are saved, the buttons on the Restore 3 handle everyday operation. That division matters if you want to keep your phone out of the bedroom: do the design work in the app, then use the clock’s controls at night and in the morning.

Connect the Restore 3 to the Hatch Sleep app

  1. Connect the Restore 3 power cable and plug it into an outlet. Leave it connected; the clock is designed to stay powered rather than operate as a portable battery device.
  2. Install and open Hatch Sleep on your phone or tablet from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  3. Follow the setup prompts in the app to add the Restore 3. Keep Bluetooth enabled and select a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network when the app asks for wireless access.
  4. Allow the app to finish pairing and loading the device controls before creating a routine or alarm.

If setup cannot find the clock, first verify that the Restore 3 is powered and still plugged in, that Bluetooth is on, and that the network being selected is 2.4 GHz. A phone connected only to a 5 GHz network may need to switch to the 2.4 GHz band during setup. Complete the on-screen pairing process before troubleshooting routines; an unfinished connection can leave the editor unavailable or prevent saved settings from reaching the clock.

Keep the app open while the initial connection completes. Once the device appears in the app, open its home screen and confirm that the Restore 3 is the clock you intend to configure. The setup sequence is the same whether you plan to use only a sunrise alarm, only a bedtime routine, or both.

Build your first bedtime routine

Hatch presents three routine types in the app:

Routine type Purpose Typical content
Unwind Helps you settle down before sleep Sound, light, or a combination
Sleep Runs after you are in bed Restful sound options and optional light
Alarm Wakes you at a chosen time Gradual light plus an optional sound

During the first routine setup, answer the app’s questions about your sleep needs. Review the sleep-style result, then inspect the routine the app suggests. The suggestion is a starting point, not a required schedule; you can change its steps, content and timing before saving.

Think of Unwind and Sleep as two different jobs rather than two mandatory stages. Unwind is the transition from an active evening toward bed. Sleep is for whatever you want to continue after you are lying down. You can create a routine with both, use only Unwind, or use only Sleep. The useful comparison is purpose: choose the category that matches when you want a sound or light step to run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Add a step to Unwind or Sleep

  1. Open the Restore 3 in Hatch Sleep and connect to the device.
  2. Under either Unwind or Sleep, tap Add step.
  3. Choose the step’s sound, light, or both.
  4. Set the duration. Preview the step if you want to hear or see it before saving.
  5. Save the step and repeat the process for any additional stages.

Every step is a small design decision. A sound-only step keeps the room dark; a light-only step gives you a visual transition without audio; using both combines the two. Duration controls how long that stage lasts, so review the sequence as a whole rather than evaluating one step in isolation. Hatch’s guides document these controls but do not identify one universally best sound, light, combination or duration.

After saving, reopen the routine and check the order of its steps. Previewing is useful for catching an unwanted sound, an overly bright light or a duration that does not fit your evening. If you change your mind, edit the existing step instead of adding a second copy with similar settings.

Edit or remove a step

In the routine editor, tap the three-dot control beside the step. From there, change the sound, light and duration, preview the result, and save. This is also where you adjust an existing step rather than creating a duplicate. If a step no longer belongs in the routine, use the same step controls to remove or replace it when that option is shown by the app.

Add a sunset light effect

  1. Open the step editor and enable the light.
  2. Tap See More to browse the available light effects.
  3. Open Sunsets and select an effect.
  4. Save the step.

A sunset effect is an optional visual transition. You can use it with audio, by itself, or omit light entirely. It belongs to a routine step, so select the step whose timing should contain the effect and verify the saved duration afterward.

Run and control the bedtime routine from the clock

After the routine is saved, you can start it without opening the app:

  • Press the Big Button to start the bedtime routine.
  • Tap the Big Button once to advance to the next step.
  • Press and hold the Big Button to stop the routine.
  • Rotate the Big Button to change volume.
  • Press the Pause button to pause or resume audio.

This is the phone-free part of the Restore 3 experience. Use the app when you need to redesign a routine; use the hardware controls when you are beginning, advancing or stopping the routine at night. A quick test before your first evening can confirm that a short press advances, a long press stops, and rotation changes volume as expected.

Pause affects audio playback, while the Big Button’s start, advance and stop actions control the routine sequence. If a visual light is running and you need to abandon the entire sequence, use the press-and-hold stop action rather than repeatedly tapping through steps.

Set up a gradual sunrise alarm

  1. Open the Restore 3 home screen in Hatch Sleep.
  2. Select Add Alarm.
  3. Enter a name if you want to identify the alarm later.
  4. Choose the alarm’s start time and the days of the week on which it should repeat.
  5. Select a sound and light combination. You may switch either the sound or the light off.
  6. Set the sunrise brightness, sunrise duration and audio volume.
  7. Save the alarm.

The light begins its gradual sunrise phase before the alarm time. Sound starts when the alarm is due, after that gradual phase. Hatch describes the feature as a custom light-and-sound combination intended to wake you gently; the exact experience depends on the brightness, duration, sound and volume you select. The official Restore 3 Alarm Guide, updated August 2, 2026, uses the same basic description: the feature lets you create a custom light and sound combination for waking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Give the alarm a descriptive name if you plan to create more than one schedule. Names make it easier to distinguish a weekday alarm from a one-time appointment when you return to the Restore 3 home screen. Review the time and repeat days before saving; a correct sound or brightness cannot compensate for an incorrect schedule.

Create a one-time alarm

When setting the days, leave every weekday unselected. Hatch says that this creates a one-time alarm: it runs once and then deletes itself. This is useful for a single early appointment or travel day without leaving a repeating alarm active. Because the alarm removes itself after running, do not expect it to remain available as a reusable schedule the following morning.

Choose settings deliberately

Setting What it changes Decision to make
Repeat days Which days the alarm runs Select only the days you need, or select none for a one-time alarm
Sunrise duration How long the light ramps up before the alarm time Use a shorter or longer ramp according to how much transition you want
Brightness Intensity of the sunrise light Set the level that is visible in your room without being distracting
Sound Audio that starts at the alarm time Choose a sound, or disable sound and use light alone
Volume Loudness of the alarm audio Set a level you can hear without making the wake-up unnecessarily abrupt
Light Whether the gradual sunrise runs Keep it on for a light-based wake-up, or turn it off for sound-only use

There is no universally best combination in Hatch’s setup guidance. The controls let you tune the schedule and intensity; they do not establish that one brightness, duration or sound improves sleep for every user. The practical comparison is between the experience you want: light and sound together, light without sound, or sound without light.

After saving, inspect the alarm entry once more. Confirm that the light setting is not accidentally disabled, that the volume is appropriate, and that the sunrise duration is attached to the intended start time. If you create several alarms, check each one individually rather than assuming that changing one changes all of them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the alarm when it goes off

  • Tap the Big Button to snooze for nine minutes.
  • Press and hold the Big Button to stop the alarm.
  • Use the side alarm toggle to enable or disable all scheduled alarms.

The side toggle is a master control. If you want to disable only one alarm while leaving other schedules active, turn that individual alarm off in the Hatch Sleep app instead of using the hardware toggle. This distinction is a common source of confusion: the side switch does not selectively silence one schedule.

If you snooze, the alarm returns after nine minutes. If you stop it with a press and hold, the current alarm ends. Use the app later if you need to change tomorrow’s schedule, repeat days, light, sound or volume.

Free content, Hatch+ and current pricing

Hatch’s alarm guide identifies free selections, so a subscription is not required to complete the basic setup sequence or create an alarm with the available free options. Additional audio and other content are associated with Hatch+; check the current catalog in the app before assuming a particular sound or light effect is included.

Hatch’s product page currently displays the Restore 3 at $169.99. The displayed price and availability can change. Hatch describes Hatch+ as $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year and says a 30-day free trial comes with Restore; those are vendor terms that may change, so confirm the offer in the app or at checkout before subscribing. You can complete the core connection, routine and alarm steps with the free choices identified by Hatch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are evaluating the purchase, the relevant cost is the clock plus any optional Hatch+ subscription, not a required accessory bundle. No separate speaker, lamp, cable, replacement tool or physical book is specified for setup. Product price, subscription pricing, trial availability and content access are time-sensitive vendor details.

Troubleshoot the common setup and alarm problems

The app cannot connect to the Restore 3

  • Confirm the clock is plugged into power.
  • Turn on Bluetooth on the phone or tablet running Hatch Sleep.
  • Connect through a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network, as specified by Hatch’s control guide.
  • Return to the app’s device setup flow and complete every on-screen step before trying to build a routine.

If your router presents separate network names, choose the one identified as 2.4 GHz. If it presents one combined name, consult the router’s network controls to ensure a 2.4 GHz connection is available during setup. These checks address the requirements Hatch documents; they do not change the device’s need to remain plugged in.

The alarm did not run

  • Check that the alarm was saved with the correct start time and repeat days.
  • Check the side alarm toggle. If it is off, all scheduled alarms are disabled.
  • If only one alarm is missing, open the app and verify that individual alarm is enabled rather than relying on the master toggle.
  • For a one-time alarm, remember that Hatch deletes it after its single run; it will not appear as a continuing schedule.

The alarm is too bright or too loud

Open the alarm in Hatch Sleep and adjust brightness, sunrise duration or volume. You can also switch sound or light off independently, allowing a light-only or sound-only wake-up. Save the revised alarm and verify the entry again before relying on it for the next morning.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The routine does not progress as expected

Tap the Big Button to advance manually. If you need to abandon the sequence, hold the Big Button to stop it, then use the app to inspect each step’s duration and saved content. Preview each edited step so you can distinguish a control action from a content or timing choice.

You cannot find a particular sound or effect

Check whether the item is among Hatch’s free selections or associated with Hatch+. The alarm guide identifies free choices, while additional content may require the subscription. Availability and catalog organization can change, so use the current app listing rather than assuming that every item is included.

What is known about Restore sleep outcomes?

Hatch reports results from a biannual Sleep Wellness Impact survey of 1,000 Restore and Restore 2 customers conducted in October 2023: 10% said their sleep had improved, 12% said they enjoyed waking up more, and 11% said they felt better rested. These are vendor-reported survey results, not independent clinical findings. The published information does not provide enough methodology to generalize the percentages to all users or to Restore 3 specifically. They should be treated as product-survey context, not a promise that a particular routine or alarm setting will produce the same result.

Restore 3 setup checklist

  • Power cable connected and clock left plugged in.
  • Hatch Sleep installed on an Apple or Android device.
  • Bluetooth enabled on that device.
  • 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi available for setup.
  • Initial pairing completed in the app.
  • Unwind and Sleep steps added, edited and saved as needed.
  • Sound, light and duration choices previewed where useful.
  • Alarm time, repeat days, sunrise duration, brightness, sound and volume reviewed.
  • Side alarm toggle checked before bed.
  • Big Button controls tested: start, advance, snooze, stop and volume.

Once those checks are complete, the Restore 3 is ready to run the saved bedtime sequence and deliver the scheduled sunrise alarm from its own controls. Revisit the app whenever you want to change the routine, alter an alarm schedule, select different content or disable one alarm without affecting the others.

What Wi‑Fi and phone requirements apply during setup?

Hatch’s control guide specifies 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi and a Bluetooth-enabled phone or tablet. Install Hatch Sleep from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Can I run a bedtime routine without my phone nearby?

Yes. After setup, press the Big Button to start the saved routine, tap it to advance, hold it to stop, rotate it for volume, and use Pause to pause or resume audio.

How do I make the sunrise alarm one-time?

When creating the alarm, leave every weekday unselected. Hatch says it will run once and then delete itself.

Can I turn off just one alarm?

Yes, disable that individual alarm in the Hatch Sleep app. The side alarm toggle is a master control that enables or disables all scheduled alarms.

Is Hatch+ required for a sunrise alarm?

No. Hatch’s alarm guide identifies free selections, so the basic setup and an alarm using available free content do not require Hatch+. Additional content may be associated with the subscription.

How long is the Restore 3 snooze?

Tapping the Big Button while the alarm sounds snoozes it for nine minutes. Press and hold the button to stop it.

What does the sunrise duration control?

It controls how long the light ramps up before the alarm time. Brightness controls intensity, while volume controls the alarm audio loudness; sound and light can each be switched off independently.

The Bottom Line

Connect the plugged-in Restore 3 through Hatch Sleep using Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi, build Unwind, Sleep and Alarm steps in the app, then use the Big Button and other clock controls for nightly operation. A sunrise alarm can use light, sound or both, repeat on selected days, or run once when no weekday is selected. Free content supports the basic setup; Hatch+ is optional and prices or offers can change.
