How to Set Up a Glorious Gaming Mouse and Customize Its Buttons

By Freedom251 Team · · 10 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set up a Glorious mouse in two stages: first make the hardware work as a normal USB or wireless pointer, then install the utility that matches the exact model and generation. Most current mice use Glorious CORE, while older Model O/O- Wired V1 and Model D/D- Wired V1 mice require separate Windows software. The model name alone is not enough to determine compatibility.

Find the model and generation on the underside label, packaging, or original order record. Connect a wired mouse to USB, or follow the charging and receiver instructions for the specific wireless model. Once the pointer works, use the compatible software to remap supported buttons, create macros where available, adjust DPI and polling rate, configure lighting, and save profiles.

Identify the exact mouse before installing anything

Glorious has several generations with similar names but different software. “Model O” and “Model D” do not identify a single product. A Wired V1, Wireless V1, O 2, D 2, PRO, V3, or newer revision can have different controls, reset procedures, and utility support.

Use the official Product Guides index to match the complete model name and generation. Do not install software based only on the shape or the first two words of the product name.

Mouse or family Connection/setup note Software guidance
Model O 2 Wired Plug into USB; the official guide describes plug-and-play operation. Use CORE for supported customization such as DPI, lighting, button assignments, and macros.
Model D Wireless V1 Charge before first wireless use when practical; it can also operate while wired, and its receiver is paired out of the box according to the guide. Use CORE for the documented customization features.
Model O or O- Wired V1 Wired USB setup. Use the dedicated legacy Model O/O- utility. CORE is incompatible with these V1 wired models, and the legacy utility is Windows-only.
Model D or D- Wired V1 Wired USB setup. Use the dedicated legacy Model D/D- utility rather than CORE.
Other current families, including V3, PRO, Model O, Model D, and Model I variants Follow the guide for the exact revision and connection type. Check the current guide and CORE compatibility list before downloading.

The CORE software page says CORE supports most Glorious products but specifically excludes the older wired V1 O/D models and GMMK 1. Compatibility can change as products and installers are updated, so use the current download page rather than an old installer mirrored elsewhere.

Connect the mouse and confirm basic operation

Wired models

  1. Save open work, then connect the mouse directly to an available USB port. A motherboard port is preferable during initial setup to a passive hub.
  2. Wait for the operating system to detect the device and install its standard mouse driver. The Model O 2 Wired guide describes this as plug and play.
  3. Move the pointer, click the primary and secondary buttons, press the scroll wheel, and test the side buttons if present. Basic pointing should work without configuration software.
  4. If the pointer does not respond, try another USB port, remove a hub or adapter, and restart the computer before installing any utility.

Model D Wireless V1

  1. Charge the mouse before its first wireless session when possible. The official guide documents wired charging and use, so you can continue using it with the cable attached.
  2. Insert the supplied USB receiver into the computer. The guide says this receiver is paired out of the box; do not assume that behavior for a different wireless generation.
  3. Turn on the mouse using its hardware switch, then move it near the receiver and test pointer movement.
  4. If wireless input is unreliable, test the mouse in wired mode first. Wired operation separates a software or battery issue from a sensor or button problem.

Do not generalize the Model D Wireless V1 charging sequence, receiver pairing, or switch positions to another model unless that model’s guide gives the same instructions.

Choose and install the correct Glorious utility

CORE for supported models

Glorious describes CORE as the application for RGB lighting, macros and keybindings, DPI, polling-rate adjustment, and firmware updates on compatible products. Glorious also states: “While all Glorious products function right out of the box, we do recommend installing Glorious CORE in order to take full control over product features and have access to any firmware updates.” That is the manufacturer’s guidance, not an independent performance test.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The compatibility information on the CORE page contains two levels of operating-system wording. Its compatibility section lists Windows 10 or later and macOS Big Sur or later, while its installation FAQ refers to Windows 11 or later and macOS Big Sur through Sonoma for the latest installer guidance. Because those requirements can change with a new release, check the current installer page for your operating system immediately before downloading.

A Glorious ID is not required for local configuration. A Glorious ID is needed if you want to save profiles in the cloud, according to the CORE page.

Legacy utilities for wired V1 mice

If you own a Model O/O- Wired V1 or Model D/D- Wired V1, download the matching legacy utility from the relevant Model O Wired guide or the corresponding product guide. The Model O Wired V1 guide explicitly says CORE is incompatible and identifies the dedicated utility as Windows-only. Installing CORE cannot make an excluded V1 model compatible.

Close other Glorious utilities before launching the one you selected. If a firmware prompt appears, keep the mouse connected directly to USB, avoid sleep mode, and do not unplug it until the update reports completion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Customize buttons in CORE or the matching legacy app

Open the device page

  1. Launch CORE, or the exact legacy utility for a V1 wired mouse.
  2. Select the connected mouse from the device list. If multiple Glorious devices are attached, confirm the model name before changing anything.
  3. Open the button, keybinding, or customization panel. The labels vary by model and software generation.
  4. Change one control at a time, apply or save the change, and test it before changing another control.

Remap a side button

  1. Click the on-screen representation of the side button you want to change.
  2. Choose the available action, keyboard key, media command, or other supported assignment. The list is model-dependent; not every physical button accepts every action.
  3. Apply the profile and test the button in a text editor or an offline practice area before using it in a competitive game.
  4. Keep a record of the original assignment so you can restore it quickly if the new action interferes with navigation or a game shortcut.

On a six-button Model O 2 Wired, the documented layout includes the primary and secondary buttons, a clickable scroll wheel, and two side buttons, with the sixth control provided by the model’s design. The exact on-screen labels and assignment options still come from the O 2 profile rather than from a universal Glorious layout.

Create a macro carefully

CORE supports macros or keybindings on compatible products, but availability and limits depend on the model and software. Record only the sequence you actually need, assign it to a supported button, and test it in a harmless application. A macro can conflict with a game’s own bindings or with software rules, so do not assume that every game permits automated sequences.

Set DPI and polling rate

DPI controls pointer sensitivity. Use a value that lets you make precise movements without lifting the mouse constantly, then test it at the screen resolution and game sensitivity you actually use. Polling rate controls how often the mouse reports movement; the setting and available values depend on the model.

The Model O 2 Wired guide lists these factory DPI levels: 400, 800, 1600 (the default), and 3200 DPI. Its DPI button, located behind the scroll wheel, cycles through the levels, and the DPI indicator shows the active level. These are O 2 Wired guide defaults, not universal defaults for every Glorious mouse. CORE can let you replace the levels and indicator colors on supported devices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Configure RGB lighting

Use the lighting panel to select an effect, color, brightness, and speed where the model exposes those controls. Some mice also have onboard button combinations for changing effects, brightness, speed, or color without software. Those combinations differ by model; use the combinations printed in the exact product guide rather than trying a sequence from another mouse. CORE generally provides more lighting options than onboard controls.

Save profiles without losing your work

After each meaningful change, save the profile with a descriptive name such as “Desktop,” “FPS,” or “Editing.” If the software offers onboard memory, store the profile on the mouse so it remains available when CORE is closed. If it offers export, export a copy to a known folder before experimenting with firmware, factory reset, or a major remap.

Cloud profile saving requires a Glorious ID, while local configuration does not. A cloud copy is useful across computers, but it does not replace an exported local backup when the model supports export. Verify that the profile is actually selected after saving; changing a profile without activating it can make a correct remap appear to have failed.

Test every change before relying on it

  • Open a text editor and verify ordinary clicks, the scroll wheel, and each remapped side button.
  • Check that the DPI indicator or software status reflects the level you selected.
  • Move the pointer across the desktop at each DPI level to make sure accidental button presses did not change sensitivity.
  • Test lighting changes with the software open and closed if you expect onboard memory to retain them.
  • In a game, use a training area or low-stakes session first. Confirm that a macro or remap does not replace a required menu, push-to-talk, or emergency action.

Why CORE may not detect the mouse

  1. Recheck the generation. Confirm the complete model name and whether it is Wired V1, Wireless V1, O 2, D 2, PRO, V3, or another revision. Older wired V1 O/D mice are the most important CORE exception.
  2. Use the matching utility. Install the legacy Model O/O- or Model D/D- Windows utility for those V1 wired models. For newer products, consult the exact guide in the Product Guides index.
  3. Reconnect directly. Quit CORE, unplug the mouse or receiver, connect it to another direct USB port, and relaunch the utility. For a wireless mouse, test the cable first to determine whether the issue is wireless-specific.
  4. Check the operating system. Compare your Windows or macOS version with the current CORE installer requirements. The requirements shown on the download page are more useful than an old support article.
  5. Allow the device to finish updating. If CORE is applying firmware, leave the mouse connected until the process completes. Interrupting power during an update can create a different problem from simple detection failure.
  6. Separate hardware from software. If the mouse works as a basic pointer but lighting and remapping are unavailable, compatibility is more likely than a dead sensor. If it fails in both wired and wireless modes, try another computer or contact Glorious support.

A mouse does not need CORE for ordinary pointer use. Software is needed for the additional controls only when the model supports them.

Factory reset is a last resort

Resetting can erase custom settings or profile information. Export or photograph your configuration first when the model and software provide a way to do so.

Model D Wireless V1

The Model D Wireless V1 guide documents a five-second reset using the left, right, and scroll-click buttons together. Use that sequence only for the documented model, and expect custom profile information to be erased.

Wired V1 and other wired mice

The wired troubleshooting instructions distinguish between models. For wired V1 O/D mice, the software provides a Restore path. For other wired mice, the guide documents a three-button reset held for five seconds. Because the exact combination and menu labels vary, open the guide for your model before pressing buttons or choosing Restore.

After a reset, reconnect the mouse, allow the operating system to recognize it, and rebuild or import your profile. Do not treat a reset as a routine way to switch DPI or lighting; those changes belong in the profile controls.

Cable and accessory issues

A replacement cable is not a normal setup requirement. If a wired mouse has a damaged or intermittent cable, follow the model-specific installation instructions before replacing it. Glorious publishes an Ascended Cable installation guide for compatible wired mice. Disconnect the mouse before opening or servicing it, and do not force a connector that does not match the guide.

A practical setup order

  1. Read the underside label and identify the complete model and generation.
  2. Open the matching Glorious product guide and confirm whether the mouse uses CORE or legacy software.
  3. Connect the wired mouse, or charge and connect the documented wireless receiver.
  4. Verify basic pointer, click, scroll, and side-button operation without software.
  5. Install the current utility for your operating system from the official software page.
  6. Set one button, DPI level, polling option, or lighting effect at a time.
  7. Test every change in a low-stakes application.
  8. Save and export profiles before firmware updates or any factory reset.

This sequence keeps hardware, compatibility, and profile problems separate. It also prevents the most common mistake: trying to configure a legacy V1 mouse with software intended for a newer generation.
