Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo run a Create Mod server, first align four things: the Minecraft version, the mod loader, the Create build, and the Java version. For a new 1.21-or-later server, NeoForge is generally the starting point; Create 6.0 has official Forge and NeoForge builds for Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Fabric requires a separately maintained Create port and Fabric API.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide covers self-hosted and panel-hosted servers, first launch, player installation, dependencies, upgrades, and the failures that most often prevent a server from starting.

1. Lock the version combination before installing anything
A modded server is a matching set, not a collection of individually compatible downloads. Write down the exact Minecraft version, loader, Create build, Java release, and any additional mods before creating the server folder.
| Decision | What must match | Practical guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft version | The server, Create jar, loader and every other mod | Do not mix 1.20.1 files with 1.21.1 files, even when their names look similar. |
| Loader | The server loader and each mod’s loader tag | Forge mods do not run on Fabric. Quilt is Fabric-compatible but not Forge-compatible. |
| Create release | The Create jar’s Minecraft and loader targets | Create 6.0 officially targets Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 on Forge and NeoForge. |
| Java | The Java runtime expected by that Minecraft and loader release | Use the Java version stated by the Create build or modpack page when it differs from a general rule. |
Create release numbers do not identify the Minecraft version by themselves. For example, a Create 6.0.x filename can target different Minecraft versions, so read the complete download entry rather than searching only for “6.0.”

2. Pick Forge, NeoForge or Fabric
NeoForge for new 1.21-and-later servers
NeoForge is the usual choice for a new server on Minecraft 1.21 or later. It targets Minecraft 1.20.2 and newer. NeoForge is not a drop-in replacement for Forge on versions after 1.20.1: a mod must have a NeoForge build to run there.
Forge for established packs and older targets
Use Forge when the modpack or the Create build you selected is made for Forge, especially on older Minecraft releases. Forge and NeoForge jars are not interchangeable. A server can fail before world loading when even one required mod targets the other loader.

Fabric when your pack is built around the Fabric ecosystem
Fabric uses a separately maintained Create port. It is not the same jar as the Forge or NeoForge release. Check the Fabric Create download for your exact Minecraft version and install Fabric API with it. Fabric can be the right choice when your other mods are Fabric-only, but it is not a way to run Forge-only additions.
Loader decision checklist
- Choose the loader required by the modpack you intend to use.
- For a new 1.21 or newer pack, check NeoForge first.
- For Create 6.0, verify that the download explicitly says Minecraft 1.20.1 or 1.21.1 and Forge or NeoForge.
- If you choose Fabric, confirm both a Fabric Create build and a Fabric API build exist for the same Minecraft release.
3. Install the correct Java release and plan memory
Java version by Minecraft range
| Minecraft range | Typical Java requirement | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1.20.5 and newer | Java 21 | NeoForge dropped Java 17 for 1.21 onward. |
| 1.17 through 1.20.4 | Java 17 | Confirm the requirement on the specific loader and Create build. |
| Older legacy packs | Java 8 may be required | Use the pack’s stated Java version; do not assume a modern runtime works. |
These ranges are practical guidance rather than a substitute for the build’s own requirement. Install the runtime first, then check it from a terminal with java -version. If the result shows an older major version than your server requires, install the correct Java release and ensure the server process is using that executable.
Memory starting points
A bare NeoForge installation needs about 2 GB of RAM, but Create adds moving contraptions, models and automation logic, and additional mods need more headroom. Treat 2 GB as a floor for a minimal test rather than a player capacity guarantee. Increase the allocation when the console reports out-of-memory errors, the operating system starts swapping, or several players load dense Create areas at once.
One Fabric setup example starts with -Xms4G -Xmx6G. That is a starting configuration from a guide, not a universal requirement. Leave memory for the operating system and panel overhead; allocating all physical RAM to Java can make the machine less stable.

4. Prepare a clean server directory
- Create a dedicated folder for this server, separate from other Minecraft worlds and test installations.
- Use a path with simple permissions and enough disk space for the world, backups, logs and future mod jars.
- Keep a written record of the Minecraft version, loader version, Create filename, Java major version and memory flags.
- Download mods only from their official project pages on Modrinth or CurseForge, and verify the loader and Minecraft labels on every file.
- Do not copy a client mod folder wholesale. Visual, minimap and performance mods may be client-only, while a server needs the mods marked for server use.
5. Install a self-managed NeoForge or Forge server
Run the installer in server mode
- Download the installer for the exact Minecraft version and loader you selected.
- Place the installer jar in the empty server directory.
- Open a terminal in that directory and run
java -jar neoforge-<version>-installer.jar --installServerfor NeoForge. Use the equivalent Forge installer command when installing Forge. - Wait for the installer to create the server files, libraries and generated launch scripts. Modern Forge and NeoForge installations normally use a script and a
user_jvm_args.txtfile instead of one all-in-one server jar.
Replace <version> with the installer filename you actually downloaded. Keeping the command and the file in the same directory avoids path errors.
Accept the EULA and set heap flags
- Run the generated launch script once. It may stop after creating
eula.txtand other configuration files. - Open
eula.txt, read the license, and changeeula=falsetoeula=trueonly if you agree to it. - Put memory options such as
-Xms4Gand-Xmx6Ginuser_jvm_args.txt, following the syntax already present in that file. - Start the server again with the generated script. Do not double-click a random jar when the installation supplied a script; the script adds the loader libraries and arguments the server needs.
Using user_jvm_args.txt keeps your heap settings separate from generated launcher files, so an installer update is less likely to overwrite them.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Add Create after the loader works
- Stop the server after it reaches a normal startup or after it has generated its initial files.
- Create a
modsfolder if one was not created automatically. - Copy the Create jar matching both your loader and Minecraft version into
mods. - For current Create 6.0 Forge and NeoForge builds, Flywheel is bundled inside Create; do not add a separate Flywheel jar unless the specific release notes require it.
- Start the server and read the console from the first error or warning, not only the final “stopped” line.
Examples reported for Create 6.0 include build 6.0.10 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge and a 6.0.8 build for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge and NeoForge. Treat those as versioned examples, not permanent “latest” labels; select the build currently listed for your target.
6. Install a Fabric Create server
- Download the Fabric server launcher for your exact Minecraft version.
- Place the launcher in the server directory and run the installation or launch command supplied with that launcher.
- Create a
modsfolder if necessary. - Download Fabric API for the same Minecraft version and place it in
modsfirst. - Place the matching Fabric Create port in the same folder.
- Accept the EULA in
eula.txt. - Start the server. A common example command is
java -Xms4G -Xmx6G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui; change the filename and heap values to match your installation.
Fabric API must be present alongside Create. Installing only the Create jar commonly produces a missing dependency error during startup.

On a panel-managed server, look for a Versions, Startup or similarly named installation page. Select the loader and Minecraft version as a pair, then reinstall the server image if the panel requires it.
- Open the panel’s version or startup selector.
- Choose NeoForge, Forge or Fabric.
- Choose the exact Minecraft version supported by your Create build.
- Apply or reinstall the selected server image.
- Watch the Console while the panel installs libraries and creates the server files.
- Accept the EULA through the panel’s file manager or configuration control.
- Upload the matching Create jar to
mods, plus Fabric API when using Fabric. - Start the server and keep the console visible until world generation completes.
Some panels provide a Modpacks tab with one-click installations. That is convenient only when the listed pack uses the loader and Minecraft version you want; otherwise, select the loader manually and add the verified files yourself.

8. Verify the first successful launch
What a healthy startup looks like
- The console identifies the intended Minecraft version and loader.
- Create is listed among loaded mods without a dependency failure.
- No message says that a mod requires another loader.
- The server reaches a running state and creates or opens a world.
- The server remains responsive after a player joins and moves away from the spawn area.
Make a baseline backup
Stop the server cleanly, then back up the world directory, server.properties, the mods folder, configuration files and the loader’s version information. Keep the original Create jar and record the date. A backup made before adding a second mod gives you a reliable rollback point.

Each player needs the same Minecraft version, loader and matching Create client build as the server. A player using Fabric cannot join a Forge or NeoForge Create server, and a player using a different Create build may be rejected or encounter registry mismatches.
- Install the same Minecraft version used by the server.
- Install the same loader family and loader release range required by the pack.
- Copy the same Create build into the client’s
modsfolder. - Install Fabric API on Fabric clients.
- Install any additional mods the server requires, using the same versions.
- Launch the matching profile and connect using the server address.
Download client and server jars from Modrinth or CurseForge project pages and read the loader and game-version labels before opening the file. Do not rename a jar to make an incompatible file appear to match.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.10. Add other mods without destabilizing the server
- Run Create by itself first and confirm that players can join.
- Add one additional mod or one tightly related group at a time.
- Start the server after each change and save the console output.
- Install the same required gameplay mods on clients before testing a connection.
- Keep optional client-only additions separate from server-required mods.
FerriteCore is sometimes added early for memory savings, and the benefit can become more noticeable as a pack grows. It is optional; verify that its build supports your loader and Minecraft version before installing it.

11. Troubleshoot the common startup failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Mod file requires Forge” on Fabric | A Forge jar was placed in a Fabric server. | Remove it and obtain the Fabric build for the exact Minecraft version, or rebuild the server with Forge. |
| “Mod file requires Fabric” on NeoForge or Forge | A Fabric-only mod is being loaded by a different loader. | Replace it with a Forge/NeoForge build or choose Fabric for the whole pack. |
| NeoForge refuses to load a Forge mod after 1.20.1 | NeoForge is not a drop-in Forge replacement on those versions. | Use a NeoForge-specific release or select a Forge-supported Minecraft version. |
| Missing Fabric API | Create’s Fabric port was installed without Fabric API. | Place the matching Fabric API jar in mods, then restart. |
| Java version error | The process is using an older or incompatible Java runtime. | Check java -version, install the required major version and update the panel or startup script’s Java path. |
| Out-of-memory crash or severe lag | Heap allocation is too small, or the machine has no remaining RAM. | Raise -Xmx gradually, leave memory for the operating system, reduce heavy additions and inspect the console for the failing workload. |
| Server stops immediately after adding Create | Wrong Minecraft version, wrong loader build, duplicate dependency or a missing dependency. | Remove the newest jar, read the first stack trace, then download the exact matching build and required dependencies. |
| Client is rejected during login | Client and server mod lists or versions differ. | Compare Minecraft version, loader, Create and required mod filenames on both sides. |
| World loads but Create blocks or machines behave incorrectly | An incompatible add-on, old configuration or mixed release is affecting the world. | Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, then reintroduce add-ons one at a time. |
12. Upgrade without losing the world
- Read the target Create and loader release notes and confirm the Minecraft version has not changed.
- Make a complete, offline backup of the world and configuration.
- Copy the current
modsfolder to a dated rollback directory. - Update the loader only when the selected Create build supports it.
- Replace Create and dependencies as a set; do not leave an old jar beside the new one.
- Start the server once with no players connected and inspect the console.
- Join with a matching client and test a small, non-critical contraption before inviting everyone back.
Never change Minecraft version, loader and Create simultaneously without a backup and a rollback plan. When a release changes world data or registries, a world saved by the newer setup may not open correctly on the old setup.
