Big Walk supports most game controllers on its PC version. Connect your pad by USB or Bluetooth using the controller maker’s normal instructions, launch the game from Steam, then open Settings > Rebinding to review or change controls. Mouse and keyboard also work, so you can switch input methods if a controller is unavailable.
This guide covers a first-time setup, control testing, chat audio, Windows requirements, and the specific checks to make when Big Walk does not detect your gamepad.

What Big Walk supports on PC
House House’s official FAQ says the computer version supports “most game controllers” and that both controller and mouse-and-keyboard input “will work well.” That means Big Walk does not require one particular controller model. A wired pad, a Bluetooth pad, or another compatible game controller can be used as long as the computer recognizes it.
Big Walk is distributed through Steam for Windows and macOS. The Steam listing identifies online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, so a properly configured PC controller can be used when playing with friends on supported platforms. The game was released on 4 August 2026.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Controller support and multiplayer are separate questions: a controller can work locally even if an online session has a connection problem, and a multiplayer session can work while your selected input device is misconfigured. Test the controls before joining a co-op game.

Check the PC edition and hardware
Install the Windows Steam version of Big Walk and confirm that the computer meets the listed minimum requirements:
| Component | Windows minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X |
| Memory | 12 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti, AMD Radeon R7 370, or Intel Arc A380-class GPU |
The Steam listing gives Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, and stronger hardware as recommended guidance, but it does not specify a recommended processor or graphics model in the supplied requirements. These specifications concern running the game; they do not require a particular gamepad.

| Connection | How to begin | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| USB cable | Plug the controller into the PC with a compatible cable. | Use the controller’s own instructions for any mode switch or setup requirement. |
| Bluetooth | Put the controller into its pairing mode and pair it through the computer according to that controller’s instructions. | Confirm the pad is connected before launching Big Walk. |
There is no controller model that Big Walk’s FAQ requires. An Xbox Wireless Controller for PC is one possible example, not a requirement. When choosing between pads, consider the connection method, whether Windows recognizes it, the comfort and layout, how closely its button labels match the prompts you expect to see, remapping support, and whether it has a built-in microphone.
Step-by-step: set up your controller
1. Connect the controller
Connect the pad by USB or Bluetooth. Follow the controller’s own pairing and mode instructions rather than looking for a Big Walk-specific pairing sequence; the game’s FAQ does not prescribe one. Wait until the controller is connected to Windows before starting the game.

2. Launch Big Walk from Steam
Open Steam and start Big Walk from your Library. Launching after the controller is connected gives the game the best opportunity to see the device when it initializes. If you prefer mouse and keyboard, no controller is needed because that input method is supported as well.
3. Open the rebinding menu
Once you reach the game’s menus, open Settings > Rebinding. The official FAQ confirms this exact path for changing controller bindings. Review the assignments and change any control that feels awkward or conflicts with the way you hold the pad.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →4. Check the controls you will use most
Before entering a co-op session, test movement, camera control, interaction, and the buttons you will use to communicate. This catches a wrong layout or an unresponsive input while you are still in a safe menu or solo area. If you changed a binding, test the new assignment rather than assuming the menu change took effect.
5. Configure communication
Big Walk is designed around both in-game voice chat and in-game text chat. Select a working microphone or headset in your PC audio settings before joining friends. A wired headset or a standalone microphone is useful when available, and some controllers include a built-in microphone. You can also play the whole game with in-game text chat if you do not want to use voice.
6. Join the online session
After movement, camera, interaction, and communication have worked in testing, join your co-op game. Big Walk supports online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer through its Steam release, so the people in your session may be using a different supported platform. Your controller setup remains local to your PC.

How to change controls in Big Walk
Use Settings > Rebinding whenever the default layout does not suit you. A useful review has three passes:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Movement: identify the control used to move and make sure its direction matches your preference.
- Camera: move the view in several directions so an inverted or unexpected axis is noticed immediately.
- Interaction and communication: test the button used to interact and verify that your selected chat controls are reachable without losing control of movement.
The FAQ confirms that bindings can be changed, but it does not require a particular controller model, button arrangement, or remapping profile. Save or apply changes using the prompt shown in your copy of the game, then test them in play.
If Big Walk does not detect the controller
Start with the two checks in House House’s FAQ rather than changing several settings at once. They separate a controller or Windows connection problem from a game-specific detection problem.
Test the controller outside the game
- Close or leave Big Walk and open a controller-testing site such as controllertest.io.
- Operate each stick, trigger, directional control, and button shown by the tester.
- Use the result to decide where the fault is. If the tester does not see the controller or its controls, the problem exists before Big Walk. Recheck the USB connection or Bluetooth pairing using the controller’s instructions. If the tester sees the inputs, continue with the game-side checks.
A test site can show whether an input is reaching the computer; it does not change Big Walk’s bindings. Return to Settings > Rebinding after confirming that the pad itself responds.
Disconnect other peripherals
The official troubleshooting advice is to disconnect other peripherals so that none conflict with the controller. Remove or unplug additional gamepads and other input devices, then test the intended controller again. This is especially useful when more than one device is sending similar inputs or when the game selects a different connected device.

- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).

Retest in a controlled order
- Leave only the controller you intend to use connected.
- Confirm its inputs on the testing site.
- Start Big Walk from Steam.
- Open Settings > Rebinding and test the controls again.
Changing one variable at a time makes it clear whether the connection, another peripheral, or a binding caused the failure. If the pad works on the tester but still is not available in the game after other peripherals are removed, record the controller’s connection type and what the tester displayed before seeking further support. Those details distinguish a detection issue from a mapping issue.
Do not copy the Mac-specific Xbox advice to Windows
The official FAQ includes Steam Input and permission steps specifically for Xbox wireless controllers on Mac. Those instructions are not presented as a universal Windows fix. On a Windows PC, begin with the normal USB or Bluetooth connection procedure for your controller, verify it outside the game, remove conflicting peripherals, and then use Big Walk’s rebinding menu.
This distinction matters because a setting that helps an Xbox wireless pad on macOS may not apply to a Windows controller, and changing Steam Input without knowing which platform and controller the advice targets can make troubleshooting harder. Use the Mac-specific steps only when you are actually using an Xbox wireless controller on a Mac and the FAQ’s conditions match your setup.
Controller, mouse, and keyboard: which should you use?
| Input choice | Best fit | Setup detail |
|---|---|---|
| Game controller | Players who prefer analog movement and a handheld layout. | Connect by USB or Bluetooth, then review Settings > Rebinding. |
| Mouse and keyboard | Players who do not have a controller or prefer desktop input. | No gamepad pairing is required; Big Walk’s FAQ confirms this input method works. |
Neither choice is mandatory. A controller is not needed to meet the PC version’s input requirements, and using mouse and keyboard does not prevent online co-op or cross-platform multiplayer. Choose the device that lets you perform movement, camera, interaction, and communication comfortably.

Voice and text chat setup
Using a microphone
Big Walk uses in-game voice chat rather than requiring an external voice service. In your PC audio settings, select the microphone or headset you intend to use, then check that the game is receiving it before joining friends. A wired headset or standalone microphone is a practical option; some controllers also include a built-in microphone.

Using text chat instead
If you cannot use voice, do not treat that as a barrier to playing. The FAQ states that in-game text chat can carry the whole game without missing out. Make sure you know the text-chat control shown by your current bindings and test it alongside movement and interaction.
Text chat is also a useful fallback when a microphone is unavailable, muted, or being used by another application. It keeps communication inside Big Walk and avoids adding an unverified external audio setup to the controller troubleshooting process.
A quick pre-session checklist
- The controller is connected by USB or Bluetooth according to its instructions.
- Only the intended controller is connected while you test detection.
- The controller responds on controllertest.io.
- Big Walk starts from Steam without the controller being disconnected.
- Settings > Rebinding shows a layout you understand.
- Movement, camera, interaction, and communication controls have all been tested.
- Your chosen microphone or headset is selected in PC audio settings, or you are ready to use in-game text chat.
- Your PC meets the Windows minimum requirements for the Steam version.
Common setup mistakes and the correct response
Launching before pairing
If the controller was paired only after Big Walk started, close the game, connect the controller, and launch it again from Steam. This follows the recommended order without changing unrelated settings.
Assuming every controller uses the same pairing process
USB and Bluetooth behavior varies by controller. Use the device’s own instructions for pairing, mode selection, and any required connection confirmation. Big Walk supports most controllers but does not publish one universal Windows pairing sequence.
Changing bindings before checking detection
Rebinding cannot repair a controller that Windows does not see. First confirm the pad responds on a testing site; then adjust assignments in Settings > Rebinding.
Leaving multiple input devices connected
Other peripherals can conflict with the intended controller. Disconnect them during diagnosis, as the official FAQ recommends, and reconnect only after the selected pad works.
Using the wrong platform instructions
Steam Input and permission guidance for an Xbox wireless controller on Mac should not be treated as a general Windows remedy. Match troubleshooting advice to both your operating system and controller type.

Bottom line for a Windows PC
Connect a compatible controller, start Big Walk from Steam, and confirm the layout under Settings > Rebinding. Test the controller at controllertest.io and disconnect other peripherals if detection fails. Use a headset or microphone for in-game voice chat, or rely entirely on Big Walk’s text chat. No specific controller model is required, and mouse and keyboard remain supported alternatives.
